Chapter 73 of 493

Chapter 76

"Ms. Jones didn't mean to scald you, and now she's even apologizing. Come on, forgive her," Megan whispered as she tugged at Sophia's hem.

Sophia gave her a look and pulled her hem out of Megan's grip.

Megan felt the cloth slip from her hand and smiled a little sheepishly. She put down her hand and then raised it again, not quite sure what to do with it now.

"It's up to Ms. Jones if she wants to apologize, but it's up to me if I want to forgive her." Sophia looked at Leah. It was as though she was talking about this incident but something else at the same time. "I will never forgive you for what you did. Even if I die, I will take this hatred for you into the grave."

There was a gleam in Leah's eyes and a flash of sadness that was gone in an instant.

William's handsome face turned hard. He barked, "Sophia Wh..."

"Sophia needs rest. Leave the gifts here, Will, and let's leave." Leah interrupted him and sat back into her wheelchair with great difficulty.

Williams's brow was creased into a deep frown. "But she's gone too far!"

"She's not wrong. It's up to me if I want to apologize to her, and it's up to her if she wants to forgive me." Leah's smile was rather bitter. "Besides, accident or not, I did hurt her. Let's go, Will."

With that, she gave Sophia an apologetic smile and wheeled herself out of the room.

William did not move from the spot. Glaring at Sophia coldly, he said, "You truly..." disappoint me.

"If I remember correctly, I just told you last night not to be alone with me, Mr. Jones. I don't want to be called a hussy or a homewrecker all because of a self-absorbed and frankly detestable person." Sophia interrupted him.

William's thin lips were pursed into a line. He clenched his fists tightly, using so much force that his knuckles turned white.

"Ms. Jones is waiting for you outside. You should leave soon. I wouldn't want her misunderstanding anything," Sophia said coolly, ignoring his fury.

William snorted at her angrily. "Save your breath. I'll leave even if you don't tell me to!"

He strode toward the door, but his hand paused around the doorknob. In a quiet voice, he said, "It's a matter of time before you regret your foolish cockiness!"

"Whether I regret it or not, it has nothing to do with you, so please don't waste your brainpower on me." Her leg had already been broken, so what else was there to regret? The only things she regretted were falling in love with Charles Harris and thinking of Leah Jones as her best friend.

Bam!

William slammed the door shut behind him, looking utterly livid as he left.

Megan's knees were feeling weak. Using the wall as support, she slowly shuffled back to the side of the bed where she sat down. Her voice was still trembling as she said, "Thank goodness you reacted quickly and stowed the lingerie away. I have no idea how we could've explained that otherwise."

On the bed, Sophia lowered her gaze and stayed silent.

"Actually, it doesn't really matter, right? Even if Mr. and Ms. Jones saw it, they wouldn't say anything as long as we don't mention that we're using the lingerie to seduce Mr. Harris. I was so nervous just now that I didn't even think about that!" Megan patted her chest, trying to calm her racing heart.

Sophia took out the sexy lingerie and folded them back into the box. "How much are they? I'll transfer the money to you."

"Oh, not much. We're friends, right? You don't have to sweat these small things." Megan carefully tried to butter her up.

Sophia closed the box and put the box next to her pillow. She then tilted her head and looked at Megan. "How much?"

"I was afraid Mr. Harris wouldn't be satisfied if they're too cheap, so I chose a few better pieces. Those three add up to 6,280, but you can just give me six thousand," Megan said when she saw that Sophia was insisting.

Sophia's lashes trembled slightly, and she put her phone away, saying, "I'll pay you in cash once I'm discharged from the hospital."

Her e-wallets were only linked to her own card, and her debit account did not have that much money. That meant she had no choice but to take the money from her brother's card.

"Don't worry about it, there's no rush." Megan waved her off. "Seeing how close we are, you don't really have to pay me if you don't want to."

Sophia licked her dry lips. "The doctor said I can leave in two days. I'll pay you three days from now. If you think cash isn't very convenient for you, you can pass me your card number and I'll transfer the money to you."

Megan wanted to say that Sophia did not have to go to all that trouble, but when she remembered that Sophia might return to the Whites someday, she texted the latter her card number anyway.

"I remember you said that Mr. Harris likes Ms. Jones." Megan watched Sophia's expression carefully and slowly said, "So when you talk to Ms. and Mr. Jones... maybe you should be a little less harsh.

"Think about it. If you tick Ms. Jones off, what if she whispers your faults into Mr. Harris' ear? If she does, it might get even harder for you to leave Dream Club."

The rib soup earlier was slightly salty, so Sophia wanted to get out of bed and pour herself some water.

"Don't get out of bed. If you want to drink some water, I'll pour some for you!" Megan poured her a glass of hot water and offering it to Sophia.

Sophia took the water and thanked her.

"Oh, it's just some water. You don't have to be so polite." Megan poured herself some water too and took a sip before continuing, "Actually, aside from seducing Mr. Harris, I think you can still consider the other plan I suggested before."

Sophia's grip tightened around the glass. She used so much force that her hand shook slightly, sending light ripples across the water inside.

"I haven't had much contact with Ms. Jones, but based on what others have said about her and what little I've seen of her, I think she's a pretty kind and gentle person. It might be easier for you to ask for her forgiveness than to seduce Mr. Harris."

Sophia drank half of the water and put the glass onto the table. "I want to rest for a while, so why don't you go back?"

"I don't have much to do today, so I think I'll just stay here and keep you company. If you need anything, I can help you." Megan thought she could understand Sophia's feelings right now. After all, she would not be happy either if someone praised her rival in love to her face.

Sophia glanced up at her and lay back in bed. "If I manage to leave Dream Club, it doesn't matter if I return to the Whites or not. Either way, I'll make it worth your time and effort. For now, you should go back."

Megan's face instantly flushed bright red. Even her thick foundation could not hide her embarrassment.

"You've worked hard for me these past few days." The wound on Sophia's right leg was itching right now, and she resisted the urge to scratch it. "I can ask the doctors and nurses if I need anything. You should go back and rest well too."

"O-okay... Just call me anytime. I have the day off today," Megan stammered. The blush had already receded from her face, and she left immediately after.

Sophia lay in her bed, looking up at the ceiling silently. Megan was right, people were very complicated.

Leah and William had barely left the hospital when they received a call from Jenny Fisher. Apparently, their mother was currently at the Whites'

residence, engaged in a vicious quarrel with Sterling and James. Jenny wanted them to go over there and calm her down.

"Leah, William, I really don't know what to do. I had no choice, that's why I called you two." As she spoke, tears fell from Jenny's eyes. "I don't know who's right or wrong here, but you know your Uncle James has a bad heart. If this keeps up, he'll definitely end up in the hospital."
