MERCY'S POV
"Good morning to you all." Mrs Mojere said as she walked into the classroom. I was early today so no need for any 'why are you late"' drama.
"Good morning ma." We replied , and her next sentence got everyone surprised.
"Everyone bring out a piece of paper and write your name and matric number."
"Is she kidding?" Joy whisper-asked me , I looked at her with the same expression,
"If you ask me na who I go ask." I whispered back at her.
I opened my bag and cut out a sheet of paper from my book.
I wrote my name and matric number as she said on the paper.
"Okay so number one......"
.........
"That woman is crazy." Esther angrily said beside me. We were all walking out of the class . Joy , Esther , Dayo , Charles, Teni , and I.
"Ahahn ... It was simple na." I said. That was too much na. And the test was actually simple. That's if you've read your book .
They all stopped and looked at me like I had five heads , making me groan at them.
"What?" I said and they faced front back and started walking again.
"Mercy that thing is simple , yes. But she didn't even give us a heads up or anything." Charles said and the rest of them agreed with him.
"No mind am. " Dayo added making me glare at him.
"I'll reserve my comments for you , Dayo." I said back at him making the rest of the group chuckle.
We were having only one class remaining and I could not wait to go home.
Teni walked closer to me ,
"Did you bring the camera ?" He asked quietly , well they did not hear because they were arguing about something.
"Camera? " I asked back ,
"Yes , the one your dad bought. Remember?" He asked , oh it's true. I told him about it.
I was too excited and I really wanted to share my excitement with someone , so I told him.
And he said he also wants to see it , but it's my treasure right now. I can't bring it to a class filled with picture and camera freaks just like me.
"I know. I didn't say I will bring it." I said back , making him frown.
"I really want to see that camera , maybe I should buy it too. How much did your dad buy it?" He asked.
The camera is quite expensive ,
"It's expensive, my dad doesn't like telling price of things and it's quite annoying but that's how he is." I said back making him nod.
We reached mama Seriki's shop .
"Good afternoon ma." We greeted her. The woman was really old and fat , not an insult just stating the facts. And she's also really kind.
"Good afternoon oo."
We buy soft drinks from her whenever we are through with a class and have break so we're her good customer.
The rest usually buy sausage rolls with it or donut since she makes and sells them but me with my bag full of snacks I only buy drinks.
After taking a blocked Fanta from the cooler where she arranged everything , I gave her five hundred .
"My original customers. No change oo." She said as she checked the small bucket where she keeps her money.
I checked what Joy and Esther bought. It was a total of four hundred and they were both giving her five hundred too.
"Mama , give them back their money. Remove it from that five hundred so I'm not collecting any change ." I said and she nodded giving it back to them.
"Where will we see change to give you now?" Joy said frustrated about the change matter.
"Don't worry . It's on me." I said back , we didn't bother looking at the boys there were settling their own things themselves.
"Ehh cash madam. Thanks." Joy said making me laugh . Esther replied her , "don't whine her na. Mercy thank you."
When we were done with that we walked to the cemented chairs arranged below the trees. We sat on the chairs.
I brought out one pack of cookies and biscuits from my bag . I was really hungry. I didn't want to be late so I didn't make breakfast today.
And my stomach has been shouting at me to get some food.
"So how's that your roommate?" Esther asked from beside me making me hiss. Not at her oo but the said roommate.
"Leave that one alone jo." I said back ,
"What did she do again?" Joy asked with a scowl.
"Our gas finished last week , she filled it back and told me to drop half the money on the counter , and well she wrote it on a paper and placed that paper too on the counter. Why can't she just come to my front and tell me?" I asked annoyed.
I breathed in and out trying to calm myself down. Sooner or later I will confront her .
Thank God we were not sharing a room sef.
"The girl is stupid na." Joy said
"Aswear." Esther answered back.
We kept on talking about other stuffs. Esther was filling us on about her hostel and Dayo Kept on dropping remarks that almost got him slapped.
I swear that guy don't use to learn lesson.
"Let's go oo. It's remaining ten minutes." Teni said looking at his wrist watch. I looked over at it and it was a new one.
He's really obsessed with wristwatch, always wearing one after the other.
We all stood up and walked back to the direction of our class.
Thank God , after this one am going back home. Maybe I will warm the fried rice mum packed for me. And the chicken too. Just the imagination was making me salivate.
"Mercy ." I heard Teni call bringing me back to reality.
"Uhm.... What?" I asked confused. The rest were at the front leaving Teni and I alone.
"Nothing." He said rubbing his afro showcasing his new wristwatch again.
"Guy , when did you buy this one? ... Wait how many wristwatch do you have?" I asked with a chuckle making him smile.
Have I mentioned that his smile always made him look cute , well it does.
"I like wrist watch but I switch them so it's not plenty like that." He said back .
I knew he had more than ten so I smirked,
"Really?" I asked back making him chuckle as he raised his hands up,
"Okay... Okay I have close to fifteen or more than."
"I knew it. My elder sister also loves wearing wristwatch but your obsession is more than hers."
"Obsession? Ahah kilode , am not obsessed with it. "
"Are you sure?" I asked laughing at his annoyed face as we walked into the class.
Five minutes later , Mr aniete entered the class too.
......
"Teni na please stop shaking the book." I whispered to him. I was back to copying from his book.
Mr aniete likes talking fast , I know have mentioned it before but even though I've learnt how to cope with the others this man own is different.
"I'm writing too na." He said his hands moving as his pen wrote words on his note.
I wanted to shout at him to stop for crying out loud and as if he heard me , he stopped.
I checked my wristwatch and he had five more minutes before the class would be over.
"Okay guys , that will be all for today. Am giving you guys the first project of this semester and it's a total of fifteen points." He said catching everyone's attention.
Teni and I stopped writing and finally looked up to see him , my neck was even aching and I had to stretch my palm.
He stopped to clean his sweat , I swear the heat is too much. And even though all the fans were on , it still didn't reduce it at all.
"So the project is to submit five pictures of students showing different emotions. The people in the picture shouldn't pose for it. I want sincere emotions flowing through the pictures." He said ,
Wow .... This project will be tough
"And I've decided to group you guys into pairs according to your matric number.and the submission date is next two weeks." He added ,
Matric number?
Who will be my partner ? And I need to buy that automatic fan or what's it's name , the heat is killing and it felt like I will faint from internal heat.
"Goodbye class."
"Goodbye sir , thank you sir." We replied and immediately people started carrying their bags and leaving the class.
Some were using their hands to fan themselves while others were using hand fans. But the people who were enjoying were the ones using that automatic fan .
I sighed as I turned to face the note and increased my speed in order to finish it before Teni decides to leave the class.
"You're my partner ." Teni said from beside me while packing his bag ,
I looked at him , and he was smiling. I didn't even know ,
"Really?" I asked surprised ,
"Yeah , didn't you check that list that was posted earlier." He said while I faced the note back.
"I didn't oo. we are so going to ace this project." I said with a grin on my face.
And it was true , from the pictures Teni sent to me which was really good and well edited and mine which is also good we had a high chance of acing the test.
Joy and Esther waved at me as they walked out saying they had to reach their hostel for something.
The experience from living in a hostel sure looked like fun from how they used to talk about it.
When I was almost done , the class was empty now leaving just Teni and I . The fans were just doing their work and finally I could feel the breeze.
I looked up and Teni was sitting on one of the desks in front of me and staring at me.
And for the first time I felt something under his stare. Wait was I crushing on Teni?
I quickly averted my gaze and faced my book back , a smile was pulling at my lips and I couldn't hold it.
"Why are you staring at me." I asked him as I stood up and stretched his note to him. Still sitting we were almost the same height.
He held my waist and pulled me closer to him with my heartbeat increasing , beating faster than ever.
Wait what's happening?
