Shortest chapter ever!
MERCY'S POV
The sound of the door closing got the weak girl to shake in her bed. Teni walked closer to her bed as she opened her eyes.
Her eyes roamed the room before landing on her brother's. She gave him a weak smile and Teni did the most unexpected thing , he hugged her with her lying and weakly moving her hand across his back.
"I'm fine Teni ." She said making Teni nod ,
"You must." He said pulling back from the hug.
I walked closer to them , " Nini hi." I said walking to the side of her bed.
She turned her head and smiled at me ,
"Mercy you're here. You have a thing for being beautiful whenever I see you." She said making me chuckle.
Even in her situation, she still made a joke and acted like she was good and really healthy. Nothing must happen to this lovely girl.
"You too ." I said back , she nodded and said something in her brother's ear.
Teni nodded and turned to me ,
"She wants to have a girl's talk I'll be outside." He said begging me to agree , did he think because of what he did I won't spend any time I had with this girl.
Then he was thinking wrong.
"Bro , go I'm not stealing your girlfriend." She said making him chuckle but he stopped halfway and cleared his throat before leaving the room.
I walked closer to her and held her tiny Fragile looking hand ,
"So how are you feeling?" I asked with a small smile.
"Let's be honest , I'm not too good. I'm just happy that you're with my brother to keep him sane." She said with her weak voice.
She was breaking all the wall that I had built against Teni bit by bit. I couldn't leave him at this time right? , When he needed someone the most.
"He's going to be fine." I said reassuring her but. She shook her head ,
"He blames himself for the accident , cause he was the one who said he wanted to go out. He hides that feeling but I can see it , he blames himself for everything." She said catching me off guard.
Why will he blame himself , and hate himself for that.
"But now that you are here , you can help him get through this especially now that i need the surgery and I don't know if I'll make it." She said with a sigh.
"You will make it okay? No matter what you'll fight for your life there cause you're a fighter , you've made it here looking happy and even more healthy than a normal child so I'm sure you'll make it. Don't think like that okay?" I said tears pooling in my eyes.
It was heartbroken to see her like this ,
She nodded and smiled , "thanks Mercy. I'll fight like you said and I'll come out alive. "
"And I'm going to get you Ice cream." I said making her grin ,
"That's a promise." She said and I nodded ,
"Yeah it is." I said back.
"I think they put sleeping pills in my drip I'm feeling sleepy again." She said slowly .
I watched as her eyes slowly and lazily closed , I cleaned my face and walked out of the room.
I looked at the passage and Teni was seating on one of the waiting chairs his head wrapped in his hands. His legs were shaking and I knew he was scared , scared of losing his sister.
I walked closer to him and sat down on the same chair with him. I shifted closer and placed my hands on his back making him shift for a minute before relaxing back probably knowing it was me.
"She's going to be fine ." I said rubbing his back ,
"Thanks a lot for all this , for staying with me here after what I did. " He said looking at me ,
I nodded ,
"you're welcome. " I said back before adding,
"Nini told me everything ,how you blame yourself for the accident , you shouldn't."
"I'm at fault for all this , if we stayed at home as planned we wouldn't have to face all this , I'm just scared , if she doesn't make it I don't know how I'll ever love with that." He said ,
I pulled his head to my shoulder, he instantly arms around me with his head buried in the crook of my neck.
I patted his back as he kept on crying , it was bad really , after some minutes , he pulled back ,
"Better?" I asked ,
"Yeah a lot better , thanks."
"It's okay. " I said , he looked at the distant end and I turned to have a look at what he was looking at.
His parents were walking to the ward back , we both stood up , Teni walked to the door and opened it , after looking at her he closed it back.
"Good afternoon sir." I greeted Teni's dad who was an exact replica of his son except he was old.
"How are you? " He asked with a thick voice.
"I'm fine sir." I said back.
"Dad we're going o ,her hostel they have curfew. Mum bye." He said hugging his mum.
"Thank you my daughter , bye." His mum said back.
The both of us walked out of the hospital , finally getting rid of that hospital scent which I hated.
We walked to his car in silence no one talking , just a comfortable one.
........
"We have to talk." I said , Teni nodded ,
We were in his car , and in front of my house.
"Why did you kiss that girl?" I asked ,
He rubbed his head , "I don't know why. I was drunk and I wasn't thinking straight."
"That same excuse Teni. Okay so if I did not go to the party , would you have told me ?" I asked and got a total silence as my reply .
"I don't know why you will do that Teni , and I know I seem like a fool trying to forgive you , but if this happens one more time , I'm done. And this chance was because of your sister." I said , I opened the door about to walk out ,
"It won't happen again. " I heard him mutter , I turned back and looked at him , we just stared at each other , "it better not." I said back and stepped out.
I closed the door behind me and opened the gate , I entered inside and walked straight to my apartment.
I opened the door and walked in ,
"Ahahn why did you come back so late?" Hakeem asked turning back on the couch to look at me.
I sighed as I dropped on the chair , "went to the hospital." I said back.
I was really hungry , "is there food at home?" I asked standing up to walk to the kitchen.
I opened the two pots which were placed on the gas cooker , rice and a delicious looking stew was already cooked by Hakeem.
I dished it on the plate and grabbed a bottle water before walking out of the kitchen.
"Thanks for the food." I said as I sat down back , he nodded and turned back again to face me,
"Why did you go to the hospital?" He asked ,
"Teni's sister is pretty sick , and she needs surgery ." I said
A look of surprise and somehow hurt , no can't be true covered his face.
"You said you were done with him."
I sighed ,
"I know I said that but his sister indirectly asked me , and when she's okay I'll leave him."
I explained to him.
"Wow , Mercy you're just going to get yourself hurt again , trust me."
He said turning back to the TV , he was right , I should have just ended it there , but Teni isn't well right now. And his sister asked , I can't just leave him at this time of his life.
"I won't."
"You would , and you'll come running home again , to me." He said almost angrily.
"Where else do you want me to run too? I'll surely come home ." I said back like a fact and that only seemed to make him more angry.
"You're annoying , and that time don't come to me again." He said , stood up and walked to his room.
I looked at him as he entered his room and closed the door .
Did I really make a wrong choice by forgiving Teni.
Did she make the wrong choice?
Sorry for the short chapter, I'll compensate for it in the next chapter.
