"I don't know what it is, but it feels so right
How could I say no when it feels so right? Yeah
And that's my n*gga forever
Told him yeah, you doin' good, but you can do a lil' better, mhm
And when I call, I'm just checkin'."

"She say she nah let go no matter how far me go." I sang as I danced around the kitchen with a glass of orange juice in my left hand and a piece of crispy turkey bacon in the right.
I was lost in my own world until I heard start barking. When I was going to get him to stop so he wouldn't wake Kyle up, I saw him Kyle leaning against the wall with his arms crossed across his chest as he looked at me in amusement.
"How long have you been standing there?"
"Only for a minute. I didn't want to ruin the show. Please go on."
"You are so funny. Happy birthday baby." I kissed him.
"Thank you love. It smells really good in here. What are you cooking?"
"Your breakfast. It was supposed to be breakfast in bed."
"Don't worry about it. I needed to stretch my legs anyway. We were in that bed all night long." He winked.
"Stop. I got the pancakes, eggs that are extra cheesy how you like it, grits, hash browns, and turkey bacon. I also made you a fruit salad and went out this morning to get some fresh croissants from your favorite bakery."
"You spoil me. I love you."
"I love you too. Sit down and let me serve you."
"No, I got it."
"Kyle, don't start this morning."
"You've done enough. I can serve myself."
"Kyle please."
"Those puppy eyes aren't going to work today. Hand over that spatula."
"You are so stubborn."
"We both are, but you're worse."
"Sure. What do you want to drink?"
"Orange juice is good. So what's today looking like?"
"I have a doctor's appointment at 10:30. While I'm there, your barber is coming over to get you fresh and then you're free to do whatever until we have to head over to Shawn's place."
"I do have to finish up the final pieces for the exhibit, but I'm kind of stuck on what they should be."
"I mean if you let me see them, maybe I can help you come up with something."
"Nice try."
"Come on. Give me a hint."
"It's a love story."
"Ours?"
"Maybe, maybe not."
"Why can't I get a preview like I always do?"
"This one is special."
"I'll take your word for it. I'm going to go get ready. It's already 9:44."
"Do your thing."
I stared out the window as my legs rocked back and forth. I'm currently waiting for my doctor to come in and see me. I had to do the usual urine test before they placed me in the room.
I'm not saying there's a possibility I'm pregnant, but I'm a little nervous. I'm not on birth control but we always use protection. My periods are usually irregular. I haven't seen it in two months and I feel like I'm gaining weight. I've been dodging that scale in my bathroom.
"Hello Nicole. Long time, no see. How are you doing today?"
"Pretty well. How are you Dr. Jackie?"
"I'm living." We both laughed. "So, the test came back negative."
"Thank God."
"Did you think you were pregnant?"
"Just a little bit. I got worried when I was getting fat."
"You've only gained seven pounds since your last visit, which was almost a year ago."
"I know I'm sorry. I just don't like coming unless something feels off."
"I'm just messing with you. Honestly, I'm the same way. Plus, that weight went to the right spot. I see that stomach is still flat."
"I've been the gym more seriously. You know, I got to keep stunting on these h*es."
"Nicole, lay your *ss down so I can examine you."
"Okay." She did the routine of listening to my lungs, feeling my abdomen, and examining my skin. That stethoscope was so cold.
"I notice this glow about you. What's the secret?"
"Why does everybody keep saying that?"
"It's true. Spill it out."
"I found someone."
"Awww, congrats. I almost thought you were going to end up as a lonely cat lady."
"You know what? Maybe I should find a new doctor." I playfully rolled my eyes as she giggled.
"No, I'm really happy for you."
"Thank you."
"I'm giving you a clean bill of health unless you have any concerns."
"I do have a question."
"Ask away."
"Hypothetically, what could be wrong with someone who is usually so lively but lately has been a little sluggish, pale, having frequent stomach aches and weight loss?"
"It could be as simple as stress, depression, effects of a medication or a serious underlying condition like cancer. Why?"
"Just asking. I've been watching so much of Chicago Med that I think everything is a potential case."
"I understand. That show has me hooked."
"So I'll see you again in a year?"
"Nicole, don't play with me."
"Thank you, Dr. Hendricks."
"You're welcome. Enjoy the rest of your day."
"You too."
"Baby, I think you've taken more than enough."
"Just one more." I adjusted my phone and pulled it closer to me so I could get his full figure.
"Nic."
"Please? Come on, I can't help it if I want to take pictures of my sexy man."
"Go ahead." He tried to hide the smile that was creeping onto his face, but he failed. I took like ten more shots before I stopped.
"Damn, you look fine." I bit my lip, scrolling through my camera roll.
"All the time." Kyle kissed my lips before wrapping his arms around me. His hands trailed down my body and that's when I pulled back.
"Uh uh, back up sir."
"Baby come on."
"I gave you a choice, either have your birthday sex last night or tonight and you had me up until 5 am this morning."
"It doesn't count because you tapped out before I did."
"We never made that a stipulation."
"The birthday boy should say when he's satisfied. That *ss is all mine tonight." He smirked, walking over to the passenger side of the car and opening the door. I looked at him in shock. "Let's go love. We've got a party to get to."
"This isn't over." After I settled into my seat, Kyle closed the door and hopped over to his side. He held my hand as usual as we drove to Shawn's crib. I fought the urge to scroll on TikTok and just vibed to the music from the radio.
Everything was just chill until I saw us driving past the I-75 sign. I turned around in my seat. Wasn't that the ramp for the highway?
"What?"
"You just passed the ramp."
"We're going to make a quick stop."
"Where?"
"I got a surprise for you."
"Kyle, it's your birthday."
"Shhh, don't worry. You'll love it." He assured me. We drove for another ten minutes before we entered a neighborhood that I noticed was filled with large buildings that looked like warehouses.
He parked on the right side of the street and got out of the car to open my door. Kyle grabbed my hand and led me to one of the warehouses on the block. It was huge on the outside. He pulled out some keys from his pocket and unlocked the door.
"Come on." It was dark except for the small light coming through the windows.
"Wait." I tightly gripped the door frame to prevent him from bringing me into the building.
"What's wrong?"
"Kyle, if I've offended you in any way, you should have just told me that instead of taking me to a warehouse to kill me. Nobody is going to know where to look for my body."
"Nicole, get your crazy tail in here." He laughed as he switched on the light.
"What are you up to? I'm really confused."
"When your business expands, you also need to expand your facilities like your warehouse to hold more inventory. Increased demand requires increased supply. I know you've been looking for a bigger warehouse and here we are. This is your new warehouse."
"You're pulling my legs."
"No, I got this for you. Here are the keys."
"Kyle, stop." I turned around, covering my face in disbelief. "Tell me you're joking."
"I'm serious baby. It's yours." Kyle placed the keys into my hand.
"I love you, I love you, I love you! This is amazing. You are amazing." I jumped into his arms and gave him so many kisses.
"I love you more."
"This is so huge." I walked around. "It even has an office space and a studio area."
"I just wanted to make your life a little easier."
"You definitely did. Thank you so much for this. You always have something up your sleeve."
"I've got one more surprise."
"Babe, this is more than enough."
"You deserve this and more."
He led me to the back of the building that had a garage door. In front of it was a big white box with a pink bow on it.
"What is this?" I have an idea, but I don't want to believe it's true.
"Open it up." I pulled the longest end of the ribbon, which helped loosen up the walls. I pushed one towards the ground and the rest fell like dominoes. I unveiled a white Lamborghini Urus.
I touched the hood of the car. It was almost like I was making sure it was real.
"Kyle, I can't take this. This is too much."
"You can and you will. Check out the interior." He opened the door. I looked inside to see it all orange. He remembered.
"I don't think my heart can take any more surprises."
"You can share mine." What did I do to deserve this man?
"You are one in a million. The best man in the whole world. I wouldn't trade you for anything or anyone. I love you."
"I love you. Let's get you buckled up."
"Okay. I need to move this seat up." Kyle chuckled as I slowly got closer to the steering wheel.
"You are really short as h*ll. I love it though."
"You better."
"Now, I want you to get to Shawn's place safely, but I also want you to get there today."
"Are you saying I drive slow?"
"Of course not."
"You're lucky you're cute."

"I feel like I haven't seen you in a while." I told Nicole as we brought the drinks outside to the table by the pool.
"We've both been really busy. I did come by the house yesterday, but Kennedy said you weren't around."
"What? I was home all day yesterday. Why didn't you call me?"
"I did. You barely answer your phone these days." I checked my phone and that's when I remembered it's been on DND since yesterday.
"My bad. I need to talk to Kennedy because I'm trying to figure out why she lied to you like that."
"You don't need to do that. I'm sure it was nothing. I don't want any problems between y'all."
"Nah, she's been tripping lately."
"Who got that white Urus outside? Or is one of the neighbors parking in our driveway?" Shawn asked.
"It's mine."
"B*tch, since when?"
"Today."
"Kyle has done it again."
"How do you know I got it for her?"
"Boy, I'm convinced every dollar you make you spend on Nicole."
"You might be right."
"That is not true. Don't listen to him."
"When are you going to let me test drive it?" Dennis questioned her.
"Never in your life. Did you forget how you totaled your G Wagon last year?"
"Whatever." He grumbled.
"Come on guys. Let's get started." We all headed into the pool.
"Congrats on the new car." I said to Nicole.
"Thank you."
"Let's play truth or drink!" Tae suggested.
"Aw h*ll. You trying to be messy."
"Shut up."
"Y'all go ahead. I'll be right back." Kyle excused himself before putting the phone to his ear.
"Okay baby."
"I got a question for Nicole. Tell the truth or take 5 shots."
"Oh Lord. What is it?" I popped open a bottle of Au Bodka and poured into my glass.
"Who did you sleep with on prom night?" That quick swig turned into a fight for my life because I immediately started choking.
"N*gga, calm the f*ck down." I mean mugged Tae.
"Wow." Eva shook her head.
"Who's going to pour these shots for me?"
"Are you serious?"
"Even if I answered your question, you wouldn't believe me."
"Try me."
"I don't remember."
"Nicole stop."
"I'm just being honest." She shrugged.
"Was his stroke game that bad or you really don't remember?" Tre wondered.
"I don't remember. I don't know what to tell you."
"Fine. I'll let it go."
"Yo. My Mom wants to say hi to y'all." Kyle came out and showed us his phone that was on a WhatsApp video call.
"Hi Mom!" We waved.
"There's my beautiful daughter in law." Nicole smiled.
"There's my gorgeous mother in law." I couldn't tell if she was joking or not. I don't know why it kind of bothered me.
"I'm really grateful that you guys decided to celebrate my baby boy's birthday. I was almost afraid that he had no friends."
"Mom."
"I'm sorry, but it's the truth."
"Kyle is a cool guy, so we're happy to spend his birthday with him."
"I wish I could be there, but hopefully I'll be able to meet all of you in person very soon."
"We can't wait."
"Have a good time. Bye guys!"
"Bye!"
"She's so nice."
"Y'all look crazy alike."
"I know, but we're like complete opposites. She's so outgoing while I'm like an introvert."
"That happens sometimes."
"Let's make a toast!"
"Kyle, we wish you more life."
"More love."
"More happiness."
"More success."
"More wisdom."
"And more money."
"To Kyle!" After we cheered, Shawn turned up the music and we had a good time. It really helped me take my mind off the drama at home.
"I appreciate you for coming man." Kyle dapped me up.
"Of course. I'll see y'all around."
"Take it easy." I got into my car and drove home. I turned down the level of the AC because the cold air was making me sleepy. As I stopped at a red light, Tae's question replayed in my head and I couldn't help but to think back to prom night.
Nicole and I ditched prom when things started to turn down. We didn't even tell people we were leaving.
"Tonight was so fun." Nicole said, carrying her heels as I opened my front door. My parents had a big house and a smaller one that were in the same lot. I wanted to move out after graduation. We came to a compromise that I would move into the smaller home so I could become more "independent" while they could still keep a close eye on me.
"I told you it was going to be."
"I'm glad you convinced me to get all dolled up."
"You're welcome. I have to say it again. You look beautiful." She had on this red dress with black curly hair.
"Stop." She covered her face.
"I'm serious."
"Thank you. I'm so tired."
"Let me find you something to change into." I went into my dresser to find a t shirt and some sweatpants.
"Oh my God. Why do you have this ugly picture of me?" I turned around to see the photo she was referring to. It was a picture I took of her when we went to Aspen for winter break. She had this white mink coat on with black sunglasses on while blowing a kiss.
"It's not ugly. You gotta stop talking down on yourself."
"I just don't like how, how I look in the mirror doesn't translate into the photos."
"You just need to find your angles. As for this picture, I love it and it's staying on this nightstand." I handed her the clothes.
"Thank you." She went into the bathroom. I decided to go into the other bathroom and freshen up real quick. I finished before her and laid on my bed, turning on the tv. As I was flipping through the channels, Nicole came out and grabbed a blanket from the closet before heading to the door.
"Where you going?"
"To the other room."
"Why can't you sleep here?"
"We're not ten anymore Dewayne."
"So? This bed is big enough for the both of us. We're not going to do anything."
"You sure?"
"Get your *ss in here."
"So aggressive."
"We should have stopped for some food. I'm hungry right now."
"Order something."
"You want anything?"
"What are you getting?"
"Mickey D's."
"Just a ten piece with honey mustard and a sprite. Oh, and a McFlurry."
"Got it." It took like 35 minutes for DoorDash to deliver our food. When it arrived, I opened up a blanket on the bed and handed Nicole her stuff, keeping the rest of the bag to myself.
"I know you're not eating the fries at the bottom of the bag." I smirked. "You're so greedy."
"Let me some of that Oreo McFlurry."
"No. You should have gotten your own."
"Nic, stop playing." When I saw she really wasn't going to share, I grabbed it and held it way out of her reach.
"Dewayne!"
"Here." I offered it to her when I was done.
"I don't want it anymore."
"You really that mad over a couple of spoons?" She didn't utter a word as she got up to throw away her trash and went into the bathroom to brush her teeth."
"Nicole." She continued to ignore me as she got back into the bed and laid down. She kept her phone in front of her face.
"Nic." I tickled the bottom of her foot. She didn't even crack a smile.
"Dewayne, don't touch me." She turned onto her side away from me.
"Alright, I'm sorry."
"Whatever."
"I'll buy you a hundred of them tomorrow."
"Go to bed." I leaned over her and pulled her shoulder back.
"Come on Nic. You forgive me?"
"I guess."
"You sure?" At that point, our eyes were locked in together and our faces were so close that only a sheet paper could separate us. I could hear that her breath became hitched.
"Yes." I don't know what came over me, but I kissed her. That led to a night I thought I would never have with my best friend.
I snapped back into the reality and saw the red light turn green.
I was so in denial about what happened. When Nicole tried to talk about it, I immediately shut down the conversation. That was selfish of me, so I don't really blame her for what she said at the party.
"Home sweet home." I mumbled under my breath, walking to the front door. I'm in a good mood and I'm tired. I am ready to crash. Before I put my foot onto the first step, the door was snatched open and revealed Kennedy standing there all mad with a robe on.
"Where are you coming from?"
"Man what?"
"Who were you just f*cking?"
"Get out of my face with that mess." I pushed through the doorway and walked to my room.
"You're really walking away from me?"
"Yes because you're bugging."
"Didn't you see me calling you?"
"I did. And?" I sat down to take off my shoes.
"So explain where the f*ck have you been at?"
"I don't know who you think you are talking to me like that, but you know Kyle's birthday party was tonight."
"And you went by yourself? Leaving me here all alone and making me look like the bad guy in front of your friends."
"Don't play the victim. I told you about it weeks ago and when I was leaving, you had an attitude so I went alone. Oh, you quiet now?"
"Okay, maybe I was wrong."
"Maybe?"
"You didn't make it any better by ignoring my calls or not bringing me any food."
"Man whatever." I was about to get up before she stopped me and kneeled down in front of me.
"Okay, I'm sorry."
"I'm cool. What you trying to do?" Kennedy had her hands on the drawstrings of my pants.
"Come on. Let me make it up to you."
"You were just arguing with me for no reason."
"I was in my feelings and I admit I was wrong. Let me right my wrongs."
"Man chill out." I was really trying to play hard ball, but my body took over. She pulled my pants down just enough to get my slanger out.
After that first lick, I forgot what we were even arguing about.
