3rd person POV:

Today was the day, that Yn Direx boarded the Research and Peacekeeping vessel, The S.S Dawn.

(S.S Dawn)

Yn:...

Yn:(chuckles)

Yn:(smiles) Oh~ I'm getting excited just looking at this ship.

Yn: Maybe this will be the start of my great space adventure?

Getting onto the ship, Yn admired the clean look of the interior. Guided to the deckhand locker room, Yn waited for someone to come greet him.

When Cynthia the first mate arrived, Yn became pleasantly surprised.

Yn:(smiles) Cynthia.

Cynthia: How are you, Yn?

Yn: Good, all things considered. You?

Cynthia: Great. So great in fact, I somehow got in such a good mood that I was convinced that I should get you a job.

Cynthia: Anyway, here.

She hands him a uniform.

Yn: Another reason I want to be a pilot... I wouldn't be required to wear a uniform.

Cynthia: You can start saying that when you actually become a pilot. Until then, put that on.

Cynthia: Today you're just going to familiarize yourself with the ship. But tomorrow, you'll get to work.

Yn: What am I going to be doing here?

Cynthia: Cleaning, helping out wherever any higher-ups ask you to, and more cleaning up.

Yn: And my pay...?

Cynthia:..... Did you not read the contract?

Yn:... I skimmed it.

Cynthia:(sigh)

Cynthia:(fake smile) It's enough so you can get what you want in less than a year.

Yn: Yes!

Cynthia: Before I go, I want you to know that I'm responsible for you. So don't get in trouble, it'll make me look bad.

Yn: Ah, don't worry! When I'm done here, everyone is going to be begging you to find them someone as good as me.

Cynthia: Sounds like a nightmare... Just don't screw up or I'll kick your ass.

Leaving, Yn gets changed and follows the pre-recorded video tour of the vessel to get to know his workplace surroundings.

The next day, he was immediately put to work after the S.S Dawn took off to the strange meteor from the sun, called Helios.

The work given to him wasn't exactly what he wanted, but it was a start.

Yn:(mind) She wasn't kidding when she said I had to clean up a lot.

Armed with a mop that told him when a spot was clean to Captain Trudian's standards, Yn cleaned with energy.

Yn:(whistling)

As he cleaned, someone bumped into him from behind, dropping a smart device in the process.

The person who bumped into him was one of the Gear pilots who was hired to protect and help to lift heavy objects.

Pilot: Watch it.

Pilots:(chuckle)

Yn:?

He continued walking away with his two other fellow pilots.

Yn: Hey!

Pilot:?

Running up to him, Yn thrusts his hand forward and presents the smart device the pilot dropped.

Yn: You drop this.

Pilot:?

Taking it, he leaves with his fellow pilots.

Yn:(mumbles) Could have said thanks, dick head...

Continuing with his work and assisting others with maintenance and repairs, Yn quickly made a name for himself as a passionate worker. Since he completed jobs given to him faster than anyone expected.

That was mostly due to him making a promise to Cynthia, which he rather work himself to the bone than break.

He didn't really enjoy what he was doing but at least it might give him a chance to prove himself by giving a good impression.

Currently, he might be the lowest of the low when it came to the food chain but he was hopeful.

After a few days, Yn was in Hanger Bay 1, which held all the gears. There he was able to watch the gear pilots play a little game.

(Gear hanger bay 1)

They would get rid of the gravity in the hanger and flick a ball at each other.

Yn:(mind) What are they doing? Roleplaying the first video game?

Cynthia: You're wondering what they're doing?

Said the first mate as she floated up to Yn, grabbing a railing to stay put and speak with him.

Yn:!

Yn: Oh hey, Cyn- I mean...

Yn:(salutes) Oh hey, Cynthia?

Cynthia: At ease, Yn, we're not at the Academy or the military, you don't have to salute me.

Yn: Well you look like someone who I should be saluting.

Cynthia: I'll take that as a compliment.

Yn: Good. Anyway, what are they doing?

Cynthia: As you know Gears use link systems to wirelessly connect the pilots to their Gears.

Yn: Yeah, I know that. It's to help with their reaction time and gear movements.

Cynthia: Precisely.

Yn: So the game they're playing has something to do with the link system?

Cynthia: A pilot needs to regularly use the link system to keep their mind in shape.

Cynthia: The human mind is not really made for wireless data transfer, so it doesn't take long for a brain to get rusty and affect performance.

Yn: Oh, so it's like the machines in the academy, they have us do warm-ups with.

Cynthia: Yeah. But those are too expensive to put on a ship like this one where its use would barely exist.

Cynthia: So pilots need to get creative.

Yn: Hmm... I wonder if they would let me play too.

Cynthia: Don't get your hopes up. These guys aren't the best crowd if they don't like you.

Cynthia: Besides, you don't have a license, and I doubt any of them would like to take responsibility for you.

Yn: Well thanks for reminding me about my lack of license... Do you want to cut me and rub salt in that wound too?

Cynthia: I prefer lemon juice.

She floats away.

Yn:... Why does she have a preference?

Pilot: Hey kid!

Yn: Whad'ya say- I mean, huh?

Pilot: So you want to play?

Yn:(mind) Right... Gears have sensitive sensors to pick up sound from afar...

Yn; Yeah.

Pilot: Oh, wait, you don't have a license...

Yn:... No biggy. I can still play.

Pilot:?

Pilot: How?

Yn:(smirks)

Hooking his feet on the railing so he wouldn't float too high, Yn crossed his arm and stared at the pilots in their gears.

Yn: Knock the ball towards me, and knock it back towards you.

Yn: You get it past me, you get a point. I get it past you, I get a point.

Pilot 2: You can't be serious.

Yn: What? Afraid to lose?

Yn: Don't worry, that's a natural feeling everyone who faces me, gets! Hahahaha!

Pilot: Cocky little... Fine, let's play.

Yn: Winner gets everyone's paychecks for the day!

(Several minutes later)

On her way back to the bridge, Cynthia remembered she was supposed to tell Yn to go on break.

Going back to the gear hanger, Cynthia found Yn punching and kicking the ball back to the gear pilots in their gears in zero gravity.

Yn: HIYA!

He shouted as he knocked the ball back towards the gears, building up more of a sweat.

What started as the pilots teasing him became a heated game.

Cynthia: You've got to be kidding me...

Cynthia:(mind) If the gravity turned on, he'd fall and probably break a leg or worse...

Yn: Oh hey Cynthia! Give me a minute as I take these chump's money!

Pilot 3: We're tied!

Yn: Not for long, because my soul is now all fired up and ready to end this game.

Cynthia:(mind) This guy...

Yn: Like a raging inferno, my- shit!?

Cynthia pulls Yn down.

Yn: Wait no, I was just about to perform a super cool finisher!

He whines.

Cynthia: It's time for your lunch break.

Yn: If you want to worry like a mother, then you might as well be a mother. You're at that age.

Yn: Get to baby-making then after you get a brat I'll take some motherly-

(Wack)

Knocking him upside the head, Cynthia drags Yn by the leg.

Cynthia: Tch, stop talking like you're my grandmother before I kick your ass!

Yn: Like your grandmother...?

Cynthia: Like someone asking for an ass-kicking!

Yn: Okay ma'am...

Getting him to stop, Cynthia dragged him to the cafeteria where they ate together.

Yn:(fake coughing) Totally a mom!

Cynthia:(fake coughing) Totally a nerd!

Yn:(chuckles)

Cynthia:(small smile)

(A few days later)

It was time...they had arrived at the meteor which was twice the size of the S.S Dawn.

Captain Trudian piloted her great vessel close to Helios and expertly landed on top of it.

Drones and Gears were then sent to explore the meteor, check its conditions, and deem whether or not it was safe.

It was safe to travel on in space suits, but there was something odd.

They had calculated how long it would take for Helios to cool down, but they turned out to somehow be wrong.

The surface of the meteor was staying at a constant temperature of 100°C in the vacuum of space.

Something was keeping the meteor hot. Further scanning revealed that there was an even larger source of heat inside the meteor and a cave leading to it.

the captain received reports of some type of cave on the meteor.

Jacklin: A cave? You would think being in the sun would at least melt any crevices shut.

Cynthia: Should we investigate?

Jacklin: Yes.

There was no point in ignoring it, Jacklin then had Cynthia go and investigate it with a team consisting of a few Gear pilots and their gears along with a few deckhands to help gather samples. Yn was one of those deckhands.

The deckhands and Cynthia were carried to the cave on the shoulders of the Gears.

(Meanwhile)

A person puts on a Captain's uniform and a helmet that masks their face, before making their way to their Gear.

???: There is no going back... Lend me your power, Lunas.

TO BE COMBINED...
