After the exchange with Lady Anne, it was time for Elizabeth's departure for France. There, she would be introduced to the French royalty and adjust to their court. If she was to follow through the betrothal and arranged marriage, she could either go to France and rule as Queen consort of France, as James' wife, or stay in England as its rightful Queen with James as her King Consort. Either way, she was to go to France and know their costumes and James was to return with her to England and know the English costumes. However, the girl had no idea that her leaving for France was an excuse for her father to separate her from her mother, under the influence of Cardinal Wolsey. While she went to France, her sister was going to Ludlow where she could continue her studies.
Lady Bryan escorted Elizabeth towards her mother's bedchambers where she could say goodbye. When Elizabeth entered, after Lady Bryan announced her, she noticed that tears were threatening to fall. Catherine stepped forward to bring her eldest twin daughter into hers arms, and said, interrupted by Lady Bryan, "My precious-..." Lady Bryan said, curtsying, "I assure Your Most Gracious Majesty that Her Highness, the Princess Elizabeth, will be well cared for during in France. She will continue her studies and music lessons at the French court." Elizabeth looked up at Lady Bryan, confused why she had interrupted her mother. Catherine knelt down to her daughter's height and waved her over. Elizabeth stepped forward and felt her eyes start to water. Catherine said, in Spanish, "Mi preciosa Elizabeth, debes ser fuerte. Recuerda quién eres: el descendiente de Isabel y Fernando y la hija gemela mayor del Rey de Inglaterra. Sé fuerte, sincero y amable ... y un dÃa ... serás Reina." Elizabeth nodded and replied, also in Spanish, "Si, Mama." Catherine then brought her eldest twin daughter into her arms, embracing her for as long as she could. She didn't know if this would be the last time she would see either of her children so she was going to make the most of it.
The Queen knew that her husband was doing this so she could step back and admit that her marriage with his brother was consummated. He was trying to get that Boleyn woman to be his wife, after she had promised him sons. Sadly, the mother-daughter moment was ruined when Lady Bryan said that it was time to go. Before Elizabeth left, Catherine gave her eldest daughter her rosary necklace and a locket with a portrait of the royal family so she would always have a part of them with her along her journey to England. After that, Lady Bryan and Princess Elizabeth both curtsied to the Queen and excited the room where they would say goodbye to the King and Elizabeth's sister. After her daughter's departure, Catherine let out an mournful sob and collapsed to the ground, her hand on her stomach. It felt as if she was loosing her children, as if they were being torn away from her womb, during childbirth all over again. Her trusted principal lady-in-waiting rushed over to her, wrapping her arms around her mistress.

Translation: Catherine- "My precious Elizabeth, you must be strong. Remember who you are: the descendant of Isabella and Ferdinand and the eldest twin daughter of the King of England. Be strong, sincere, and kind ... and one day ... you will be Queen."
Elizabeth- "Yes, Mama."
