Two years later, back at the English court, things were almost in shambles since Elizabeth had left. It seemed that Cardinal Wolsey has excelled in his rank. And Sir Thomas Moore was loosing his hold on the King. King Henry VIII stood in his chambers as he looked out the window, watching Lady Anne stroll in the gardens. He turned when he heard the herald announced Wolsey's arrival. He said, "Wolsey. To what do I owe the pleasure?" Wolsey bowed to the King and replied, "I was told that you requested my presence, Your Majesty." Henry said, nodding, "Yes, I wanted to hear about the progress of the matter." Wolsey replied, "We were unable to make a decision, Your Majesty." Henry said, "And what of my daughter?" Wolsey replied, "Which one, Your Majesty?" Henry said, "Elizabeth." Wolsey replied, "She is adjusting well to the French court for what I am told. Her Highness has gotten very close with His Highness, Prince James. They were often seen in the gardens together, speaking with each other." Henry smiled; he was very pleased to hear that his heiress was doing well in the French court. He nodded and said, "What of the Emperor?" Wolsey replied, "It appears that the Emperor has married to the Princess of Portugal. It seems that he wasn't going to wait for your daughter, Princess Mary, to grow up. He has also taken King Francis captive as well as his Holiness." Henry's heart began to pound. Elizabeth was still in France and at the French court. Wolsey noticed his Kong's worry and said, "He has spared the Princess Elizabeth, for he didn't wish to offend his aunt, Her Majesty, Queen Catherine." Henry replied, "And what of Prince James?" Wolsey said, "It appears that Princess Elizabeth has ways of getting the Prince away from the French court and has sent him here. He will arrive on boat as a merchant's son. He will soon be followed by his mother and siblings then Princess Elizabeth."

Henry silently said a prayer, thanking God for sparing his beloved daughter from any type of torture she would have endured. He sighed and replied, "Let us thank God for saving my daughter. We shall prepare for the French royal family's arrival and my daughter's safe return." Wolsey nodded and said, signing the sign of the cross, "Yes, Your Majesty. I will make the arrangements." Henry replied, stopping Wolsey from leaving, "Actually, have Lady Anne make the arrangements. I would like it if she had some sense of involvement of these kind of matters." Wolsey stared at the King with concern and said, "The Lady Anne, Your Majesty?" Henry replied, "Yes. Is that a problem, Cardinal?" Wolsey sighed and said, "No, Your Majesty. I would just assume that you would have Queen Catherine handle such matters, being Princess Elizabeth's mother." Henry replied, thanking about it, "Of course. Well, have Lady Anne handle my daughter's escort party and Queen Catherine make the arrangements of the welcoming of the French royal family. You are dismissed." Wolsey bowed to his King, feeling deeply troubled by Henry trying to involve Lady Anne with arrangements. He was soon greeted by Sir Thomas Moore. Wolsey nodded at the man and said to him, "Thomas, to what do I owe the pleasure?" Thomas replied, "What did Henry request of you this time?" Wolsey said, as they passed courtiers who bowed/curtsied to the two men, "I'm sure you have heard about the invasion of France by Emperor Charles." Thomas nodded and replied, "Yes, I have received letters from my goddaughter about the invasion and I have spoken with Her Majesty and Princess Mary." Wolsey sighed and said, his voice lowered into a whisper, "It seems that the King wants his mistress to handle the arrangements of welcoming the French royal family and Princess Elizabeth's escort party. I swayed his mind on having Queen Catherine handling the arrangements and Lady Anne handling the escort party." Thomas replied, "Her Majesty will not be pleased when she hears about this. This is her daughter and future son-in-law we are talking about." Wolsey said, "We can only do what His Majesty wants us to do to our upmost abilities." He left Thomas to his own devices and went to his study.
