Life changed for Elizabeth after the death of Thomas Moore. She received countless letters from Anne, begging her to respond and about how Elizabeth's father was taking mistresses left and right during her pregnancy which was now her second. The princess could only scoff and roll her eyes at the complaints. It wasn't her place to tell her father how to live his life as a husband, father, or King. Elizabeth was in her bedchambers when she was reading another letter yet again from Anne. Lady Eleanor noticed her friend's annoyed expression and said to her, "Another letter from the harlot, madame?" Elizabeth sighed and replied, "Yes, Lady Eleanor. She's still persistent on my return to England to help her get back in my father's good graces." Lady Mariana said, as she put Elizabeth's dresses in the wardrobe after being cleaned, "Perhaps it is a good thing, Milady. After all, once she is gone and that little girl is named bastard, you and Princess Mary will take your rightful place in the succession." Lady Caterina scolded, "Lady Mariana! That is no way to talk about a child of Our Majesty." Elizabeth only chuckled at her ladies squabbling then felt a pain in her stomach. The princess let out a painful gasp, causing Lady Eleanor to rush over to her. Lady Eleanor placed her hand on Elizabeth's back and said to her, "Your Highness, are you alright?" Elizabeth replied, as her vision blurred, "I'm alright. Just felt a pain in my stomach is all. Must be a stomach illness." Lady Eleanor shaked her head and said, turning to Lady Caterina then to Lady Mariana, "Lady Caterina, go fetch a physician and inform Prince James. Lady Mariana, help me get Her Highness into bed." Lady Caterina nodded then curtsied to the two ladies and rushed to her task. Lady Mariana ran over to the princess and principal lady-in-waiting. She then made the bed for Elizabeth and helped her into bed.
Soon after the two ladies-in-waiting got the princess into bed, Elizabeth fainted from the dizziness and pain in her stomach. The French royal family rushed to Elizabeth's bedchambers after receiving the news of her pains. James reached his bedchambers, which he had shared with Elizabeth, and burst into the chambers to find his wife in their bed, unconscious. He walked over to Lady Eleanor and said, "What happened?" Lady Eleanor replied, curtsying, "Her Highness was reading a letter from Queen Anne Boleyn when she felt stomach pains, Your Highness. I had Lady Caterina fetch the physician and inform you and the other royal family members." James nodded then turned his attention back to his wife who was being examined by the physician while her hands were held by his mother and sister. He walked over to the physician and said to him, after he had finished, "Well, what's the matter?" The physician smiled at the prince and replied, bowing, "There is no need to worry about Her Highness, Your Highness. Her Highness is pregnant." Charlotte let out a gasp, as did Claude and the ladies-in-waiting, then turned back to Elizabeth. James had no idea what to say. He was going to be a father! He and Elizabeth had done their duty for both of their kingdoms. Not only will this child be a child of France but of England. His father clapped his hand on his back, bringing him into an embrace. Francis said to his eldest son, "Well done, my son. This is exciting news. There shall be festivities to celebrate the news of Elizabeth's pregnancy. Then, you shall go to England and bring the news to Elizabeth's father." James replied, "What about Elizabeth, Father?" Francis said, "She will go with you, of course. But, when she reaches her fifth month, she cannot travel. It will be too dangerous for her."
James nodded, he was glad that he didn't have to face Henry alone. Elizabeth knew how to calm her father if he was in a bad mood. She was the only one who could calm him. That evening, Elizabeth woke up to find her husband in a chair next to her, holding her hand. James immediately called the physician to check on Elizabeth, just to be sure she was alright, even if he already knew her condition. Elizabeth said to the physician, after he finished, "Well?" The physician replied, smiling, "There is no need to worry, Your Highness. Congratulations are in order. You are pregnant." Elizabeth turned to James, unsure of how to react. James smiled at his wife and said, "We did it, Ellie. We have an heir for both France and England." Elizabeth replied, "What about my sister Mary, James? She's my age and remains unmarried and childless. Surely, we can have her come to France and help her search for a husband." James said, kissing his wife's knuckles, "If that it is your wish, then it shall be done. I'll tell my father and have Mary here." Elizabeth smiled at her husband then brought him into a passionate kiss. The physician saw that it was time for his departure and left the room, bowing to the royals.
