The next day, Anne was executed by a sword and the planning of a wedding between Henry and Jane had begun. Elizabeth was with Jane as she helped the overwhelmed Queen-to-be. At seven months pregnant, you would expect Elizabeth to be confined but she wouldn't allow it. A familiar voice said, grabbing Elizabeth and Jane's attention, "Your Highness, Your Majesty." Elizabeth turned to see Charlotte and said, smiling, "No, just sister." Charlotte ran over to Elizabeth and gently brought her into a hug. Elizabeth said, pulling away, "What brings you here?" Charlotte replied, "Well, my parents got an invitation from His Majesty and James sent me and our siblings invitations. James wanted me to stay and help you with your childbirth and be there when it happens." Jane chuckled at the sister-in-laws' reunion and said to Elizabeth, "I'll leave you two alone. I have a dress fitting with the seamstress. We can look at wedding and christening details later." Elizabeth smiled and replied, "Thank you, Jane," Charlotte looked at the planning details and said, "Oh, Elizabeth. These are gorgeous!" Elizabeth replied, smiling, "Father wants to go all out for the wedding with him and Jane. As for the christening, I told him that I wanted it to be simple but he insisted that his grandchild would have only the best, daughter or son." Her smile turned into a frown at the thought of disappointing her father and husband. Charlotte noticed her sister-in-law's frown and said, wrapping her arms around Elizabeth, "What is it?" Elizabeth replied, shaking her head as she held back a sob, "Oh, it's nothing really." Charlotte dismissed the other servants and ladies so she could talk to Elizabeth. Once the servants and ladies left, the princesses were free to converse with each other. Charlotte turned back to her sister-in-law and said, placing her hands on her hips, "Alright, start talking." Elizabeth said, sighing, "You have heard about what happened to my mother and Anne. I'm just frightened that I'll end up the same way with James." Charlotte replied, "Does James know about this, Elizabeth?" Elizabeth shaked her head and said, "And he can never know. I don't want him to worry about me than he already does." Charlotte sighed and nodded.
Three days later, the wedding of Henry and Jane was in full swing. Elizabeth helped Jane with her preparations while James helped her father. Elizabeth was helping Jane with her jewelry when she started to feel stomach pains. Jane noticed the pained expression on her soon -to-be stepdaughter's face and said, concerned, "Are you alright, Elizabeth?" Elizabeth took a deep breath and replied, putting a smile on her face, "Yes, I am fine." Lady Eleanor, who had offered her help to her mistress and the soon-to-be Queen, looked up from straightening out Jane's dress and turned to her mistress, seeing her pained expression. She made herself a mental note to keep an eye on Elizabeth, just in case. A knock on the door interrupted the awkward silence and a guard's voice said on the other side, "They're ready for you, Your Majesty, Your Highness." Elizabeth have Jane a comforting smile and allowed her to go ahead of her. Lady Eleanor waited for her sister to leave with her ladies and came up her mistress. Elizabeth didn't say anything or spare a glance to her principal lady-in-waiting and followed after her friend who would soon be her stepmother. Lady Eleanor sighed but followed Elizabeth and closed the door behind her.
The wedding was almost like James and Elizabeth's wedding but fit for a King and Queen. The couple said their vows then rode off to Hampton Court. Elizabeth stood next her husband as they waited for her father and now new stepmother to arrive. She could finally relax, knowing that there wasn't someone to go after her title as Princess of Wales. Unless Jane has a child and gave birth to a boy, then that would be another story. Another stomach pain interrupted her thoughts and she held back a gasp of pain. She didn't want to ruin her father's happy day, not on account of her pregnancy pains. The Harold announced, "Their Royal Majesties, King Henry and his new wife and Queen, Queen Jane!" The courtiers all bowed/curtsied as the King and new Queen entered the throne room. Elizabeth did as the best she could to curtsy but it was hard with her pregnancy. As the celebrations began, the stomach pains got worse. While Elizabeth was in a conversation with Jane, she let out a gasp of pain when her water broke. Jane turned to her sister and said, loudly, "Fetch the physician, quickly!!" Lady Eleanor nodded and turned to Lady Caterina who then nodded and went to get the physician. The celebrations came to a halt as Jane, Charlotte, Mary, and Elizabeth's ladies-in-waiting helped Elizabeth to her bedchambers. James went to follow his wife but was held back by his father-in-law. Henry placed his hand on the young man's shoulder and said to him, "Elizabeth will be alright, James. She has Jane, your sister, her sister, and her ladies with her. You just have to wait and be patient for now." Although it seemed like Henry was assuring James, it was almost as if he was assuring himself. Although Elizabeth was a woman, she was Henry's heir to the throne. If she was to die in childbirth, then her child, if it lived, would be his heir. That would only happen if he couldn't have a son.
With Elizabeth, the princess screamed in pain as she held onto Jane and Charlotte's hands. Lady Eleanor, Lady, Caterina, and Lady Mariana were running around the room as they rushed to achieve the midwives' orders. Jane brushed her close friend's, now stepdaughter, hair out of her face and said, smiling comfortingly, "You're doing so well, Elizabeth. You're almost there." Outside of the bedchambers, James paced down the hallway while Charles and Henry waited patiently. Henry could only hope that his daughter survived the pains of childbirth. He was grateful that his new wife, Elizabeth's sister and sister-in-law were in there to comfort her. The birth seemed to take forever, it had been two days since Elizabeth's pregnancy pains had started. The poor princess was in so much pain that she had almost passed out a few times during labor. Then finally, after almost three exhausting days of labor, Elizabeth gave birth to a baby boy. James walked into his bedchambers to see Lady Eleanor holding a bundle of blankets. His eyes moved to see his wife asleep in the bed, exhausted. Lady Eleanor said to the prince, "It was a long birth, Your Highness. We almost lost Her Highness a few times but she kept on going. The poor thing. Only yesterday did she give birth to your son." James was taken back when Lady Eleanor told him that he had a son. He looked at the bundle of blankets to see a small baby, asleep. The prince then held out his arms and said, "May I?" Lady Eleanor nodded and gently passed over the baby boy to his father. Another generation has begun.
