A week later, Elizabeth woke up to find her ladies-in-waiting tidying the room and her husband in conversation with her uncle. She stirred in the bed and winced at the pain, unaware that she had given birth a week ago. James turned when he heard a soft gasp and smiled when he saw his wife awake, racing towards her. Elizabeth stared at her husband and said, confused then concerned, "James, where am I? *She let out a gasp when she realized that she wasn't pregnant anymore* What happened to the baby?" James chuckled and replied, placing a hand gently on Elizabeth's cheek, "It's alright, Elizabeth. You're in our bedchambers, you went into labor during the wedding celebrations. The baby is alright, he is with Her Majesty at the moment." Jane had wanted to spend time with her step-grandson while Elizabeth was unconscious and James had allowed her to. Elizabeth's eyebrow rose and she said, "He?" James nodded and replied, smiling widely, "Yes, Elizabeth. You gave birth to a son." Elizabeth smiled then gasped when James brought her into a passionate kiss.
The passionate moment was interrupted when someone cleared their throat. Elizabeth pulled away from the kiss to see her uncle, Charles, with a pointed look. The princess chuckled and said, "My apologies, Uncle Charles. I didn't realize you were there." Charles sighed but chuckled and replied, "It's alright, Elizabeth. How are you feeling?" Elizabeth said, looking at her husband, "Well, considered that I just gave birth a week ago and that I have been unconscious, I am well but still in pain." Charles nodded and replied, "That is to be expected." James said to his wife, "You were in labor for three whole days, Elizabeth. The midwives told me that they had almost lost you a few times because it was a hard childbirth. You almost died." Elizabeth took in what her husband had said, she didn't remember a whole lot from the childbirth. All she remembered was the pain and the comforting words from Jane, her sister, and sister-in-law.
Later that day, Elizabeth was visited by her father and Jane, along with her sister and sister-in-law. James had told her that he would be in a private meeting with the French ambassador to discuss their next journey to France when their son would be ready to travel. Henry smiled at his eldest daughter and said to her, "It makes me happy to see you well again, my precious jewel. We all thought we were going to loose you." Elizabeth chuckled and replied, "I am grateful for your concerns, Father, but it will take more than just a childbirth to take me away from this family." Jane looked at her close friend and said to her, "You were lucky this time, Elizabeth. The midwives were concerned that you would have died during the labor." Elizabeth sighed and said, "I know, Jane. James had told me. What of my son? James said that he was with you when we were talking." Jane chuckled and turned to her sister, quietly telling her to get the newborn prince for his mother. Soon, Lady Eleanor came back to the bedchambers with a bundle of blankets in her arms. Elizabeth watched with her arms open as her close friend walked over to her and gently passed the bundle of blankets into her arms. This was the first time since the labor she was finally able to hold her son. She was lost in her baby boy that she had forgotten that there were others in the room. After a few minutes, James entered the bedchambers to find his wife surrounded by her family as she held their son. He smiled and said to her, startling her slightly, "He still needs a name, Elizabeth." He figured that it was time that their son was to be named and it couldn't be a good time when their family was around. Elizabeth turned her attention back to her son, who was asleep in her embrace, and said, after thinking about a name for a couple minutes, "Nicholas, his name will be Nicholas. Prince Nicholas James Henry Francis of France and England." James smiled and replied, "Nicholas it is then. *He made his way over to the bed, causing his sister and sister-in-law to move out of the way, and leaned over to look at his sleeping son* Welcome to the family, Nicholas."
