Four years later after the summit, things went downhill. As Elizabeth and Mary grew older, Catherine's hold on their father began to lessen. A new woman had caught the girls' father's eye, a woman by the name of Lady Anne Boleyn. Mary was furious that her father was not on good terms with her mother while her sister only stood by and watched. Ten year old Princess Elizabeth danced around the room while a lady-in-waiting played the harpsichord, another played the flute, and another played the trumpet. Lady Bryan was clapping her hand to the beat, to help the girl keep the beat, and smiled. The other ladies-in-waiting joined in with the princess while the grooms watched from the sidelines. Unknown to the ladies and princess, King Henry entered the room with Anne Boleyn by his side. He had hoped that his eldest twin daughter would be more welcoming to his mistress rather than his youngest twin daughter. Mary was very hostile with Anne, believing that she had stolen her mother's place as her father's love.
As Elizabeth came to a stop at the end of her dancing, the sound of loud clapping and her father's voice saying 'Bravo' had startled the young girl and the ladies-in-waiting. Upon seeing her father, Elizabeth dropped into a curtsy and said, "Your Majesty." Henry waved his hand, allowing his daughter to rise. He walked over to his daughter, placing a kiss on her cheek, and said to her, taking her hand as he turned to Anne, "My daughter. There is someone I would like you to meet. Elizabeth, this is Lady Anne Boleyn, my new mistress. Anne, this is my eldest twin daughter, Princess Elizabeth of Wales.....soon to be of France." Anne lowered herself into a curtsy, due to her status being lower than the princess, and said, "Your Highness." Elizabeth curtsied to the lady and replied, "Mistress Boleyn." It seemed the same would be with his eldest daughter, seeing that she called Anne 'Mistress' instead of 'Lady', just like her sister.
While Henry was fuming, he knew that he couldn't force his daughter as much as he wanted to. She was his heiress, after all. Anne smiled at the young girl and said, rising from her curtsy, "It is an honor to be in the presence of His Majesty's daughter. He has told me many great things about you, Your Highness." She held onto hope that the girl would warm up to her. Elizabeth gave the woman a small smile and replied, "Thank you, Mistress Boleyn. *She curtsied to her father* I must go prepare myself for my leave to France. That is, by Your Majesty's leave?" Henry smiled lovingly at his daughter and nodded. Elizabeth left the room, followed by her six ladies-in-waiting. Anne curtsied as the Princess passed by her. She turned to her beloved and said to him, fuming, "You said she would be more welcoming, Henry! She is just like her sister!" Henry replied, sighing, "Give her time, sweetheart. She'll come around."
