Elizabeth was fuming when she reached her bedchambers. She couldn't believe that her father had decided to bed Anne Boleyn! He had already bed her sister, Mary Boleyn. Now, it seemed like it was becoming a scandal. Lady Bryan watched as her charge paced around the room, her hands in her hair. She placed her hands on her hips and said to the girl, "Alright, Princess Elizabeth, that's enough!" Elizabeth turned to her governess and replied, "It's not fair, Lady Bryan! My father should be with my mother! Not that............woman!" Lady Bryan looked at the girl in pity and said, "It is not our place to say as women how men should act. Your father is a man and a King, of all titles. He can do what he wants, however he wants, whenever he wants. As women, it is our place to honor, obey, and love. You may be too young to understand it all now but in time, you will." Elizabeth would never forget that, she would always take that advice to heart. Lady Bryan said, "Now, shall we continue to prepare for our leave for France?" She knew that with their departure for France coming up soon, they would need time to prepare. Elizabeth sighed but nodded. She was looking forward to seeing James again.
Ever since the summit four years ago, the two royal children had gotten close and formed a bond. They had exchanged letters back and forth, telling each other about their days and asking how each other was doing. As the ladies-in-waiting and grooms were helping the princess pack, the herald announced the arrival of Lady Anne. Elizabeth held back a groan and gave Lady Bryan a necklace she had in her hands. She thought, 'What did that harlot want now?' Lady Anne entered the bedchambers and curtsied before Elizabeth. Elizabeth curtsied slightly and said to the mistress, "Mistress Boleyn. What do I owe for the pleasure of your visit?" Anne replied, "Well, Your Highness. I would like to know why you were so cruel to me when your father, His Majesty, introduced me." Elizabeth glanced at Lady Bryan and said to the mistress, "Mistress Boleyn, how can I be so welcoming to a woman who has taken my father from my mother, his true and loyal wife? How can I be so welcoming to a woman who has taken my mother's happiness and made her miserable? Take this words to heart, Mistress Boleyn. I may be a young girl, ten years of age, but I know when a husband strays from his wife for the desires of another. If you so much as think of trying to take my mother's place as Queen, you will not find any support from myself or my betrothed or my sister. Be rest assured of that. You are dismissed." Lady Anne only stared at the young girl in shock until she curtsied, as her ladies-in-waiting did, and exited the bedchambers. Lady Bryan smiled proudly at her charge. While she respected the King and his decisions and choices, she didn't approve of his choices of mistresses. Especially this one.
