Chapter 23: Chapter 23

Blood is thicker than waterWords: 10720

Adelina POV:

"A milkshake too. And nuggets, get lots of nuggets. Don't forget the barbecue sauce. Fries, get fries!" I yell, practically falling over the center console while shouting at the outdoor intercom.

The man beside me looks at me oddly with a slight smile then proceeds to recite the additions to our order to the McDonalds worker. His ring bearing fingers wrap around smooth leather as he moves to change gears and go up to the window.

"You've got quite the munchies, don't you?" he looks to me with a smirk. I ignore him with a large smile plastered to my face and tilt my head towards the window. We sit in silence for a couple moments while he collects the food and drives off.

"Where are we going?" I giggle. He seems thrown off by the sound I don't often make but is quick to regain his composure.

"Nowhere special'" he puts it simply as the dark eyes I've grown to find beauty in turn back to the road. He drives for not very long but it feels like an eternity with the mouthwatering aroma that is filling the car and teasing me. Every time I attempt to reach for even a fry, the boy next to me slaps away my hand.

Very rude.

I offered to pay, I even attempted to pay with the money that one of the brothers handed me but he wouldn't allow it. I didn't like it, I would have rathered pay for myself but he wouldn't hear it.

My mind zones out for a bit and before I know it someone snaps their fingers taking me from that daze. He stares at me and is clearly puzzled but I'm not too sure what by.

"You've been staring at the door handle for fifteen minutes," he says, to which I let out a loud laugh. My reaction leaves him even more confused.

We've arrived at a small and deserted park that is littered with unoccupied picnic tables. Grass and trees cover most of what we could see and I sigh at the serene scenary.

He startles me by grabbing my face between the both of his hands and pulling my face towards his. His woodsy scent enveloppes me and I focus on appearing normal. My breaths start to deepen at the odd scented comfort. His eyes rummage my face as he analyses me and I shift uncomfortably under his gaze.

"You're staring, Sebastian." I breath out. A grin makes it's way across his lips at the memory of our first meeting. My fingers make ther way to my mothers bracelet that has not left my wrist and this does not escape his agile eye.

"Can we eat now, I'm hungry-" My train of thought is cut when his face comes closer to mine by mere millimeters. His thumbs gently rub across my cheeks and my eyes flutter shut.

"You're high as shit." he announces. My eyes snap open wide and I move my head out of his hands.

"I-, wha-, no-."

"Holy shit," he laughs. It's a beautiful laugh, one I could hear for all hours of the day and I'm almost distracted by the melodious sound but I'm quickly brought back down when he continues. "You didn't even think to offer me any?" he looks to me with mock hurt.

I feel my entire being relax at his words.

"It wasn't intentional," I laugh "I got overwhelmed and it was morning and an edible..."

I go on to tell him the entire story, while excluding the names of the brothers present. Our conversation moves to a picnic table and I'm soon doubling over in laughter dropping the fries I have in my hand all over.

It's a bright day, the sun is shining but not very harshly. I've always been partial to the rain, but this feels perfect. There's a light breeze every here and there to wash away the loud conversation.

No one is around to throw us looks and he didn't care to judge. Even with my inebriated state I could see the genuine smile he is offering me. He listens intently to my rants and poor jokes and his eyes soften with every laugh.

I'm not going to deny staring. I am and very obviously too. It's impossible not to see the way his hoodie is hanging off him loosely and the way a single chain dangles from his neck enticing me to observe it a step further.

A mischevious glint flashes in his eyes before he leans over to me from across the table. I don't flinch, I feel completely dazed by him. I catch another whiff off his cologne and feel comfort settle in me.

A stupid smile rests on his lips as his hand raises slightly and moves towards me. I watch as it goes to pick up my milkshake and quickly jump back to my senses.

"No! What the fuck, hands off. It's mine." I exclaim hopping to my feet and push his shoulders back. This doesn't stop him though, and he continues reaching until I slap his hands away. Repeatedly.

"Ouch! Ok, ok!" he shouts back "Remind me to never touch a high person's food."

"Never touch a high person's food," I smile. He chuckles whilst shaking his head.

"Think you're funny, Addi?" he asks, his eyes narrowing at me. I narrow my own in return.

"I do find myself quite amusing, Sebby." I tilt my head. He responds with laughter.

"Do me a favor and never call me that again," he says inbetween breaths.

"I think it's cute," I say getting to my feet and rushing over to the other side of the bench to sit next to him. He looks to me with those beautiful inquisitive eyes of his and I simply scrunch my nose in return.

"Sebby, Sebby, Sebby!" I yell, poking at his face. He attempts to push my hands away but catches my head accidentally which results in me falling off the bench with a shriek. My scream is followed by giggles as he apologises profusely.

"Fuck, I'm sorry." he says picking me up.

"It's alright." I smile to him. He doesn't let me accept the apology, however, and gives me a free pass at pushing him off aswell. Which I take graciously. In a couple quick seconds he ends up on the ground just as I had moments before. The beanie he seems to always be wearing falls off and to reveal the brown fluffy hair I know he has.

He gathers himself off the ground and shoves the hat back on his head before plopping himself back onto the bench and next to me. I snicker lightly and he turns his head to look to me. His arm leans onto the table effectively turning his position towards me while otherwise it would be his back that would be facing the table.

"There's a party next friday," he trails off "you want to go?"

"Will there be drugs?" I say flat out.

"No more drugs for you," his reply came without a moment's hesitation and I pout at him.

"Drinks?"

"There will be drinks." he confirms.

"Fun people? I swear, you can't do shit with boring people-"

"They're my friends," he winks "of course they're fun"

"Then count me in." I say quietly.

We pick up everything that had gotten thrown about while talking. There's no reason to leave the place a mess. Eventually, my energy wears off and I sit back down at a picnic table while my eyes start to shut on their own accord.

Sebastian notices this a hands me his keys to go rest in the car while he finishes up.  I have no opposition towards his suggestion and gingerly take the keys he's handing out to me.

I don't know much about cars, it has never been an area of expertise of mine. I walk up to the matte black car that I first jumped into a couple hours ago and my eyes start to close as I rest my head against the cool leather seats. My high had started wearing off some time ago and I fall asleep with a smile on my face thinking about the messy haired boy.

The next time I wake, I have practically no recollection of why I am where I am. I'm curled into a mountain of blankets that I slowly realise aren't my own. I sit up and attempt to search the room with blurry eyes.

I groan, not exactly remembering why I would be in a teenage boy's room. I know for a fact this is not any of my brother's rooms so, while rubbing the sleep out of my eyes, I think. An idea surges through my mind and I'm hastily ripping off the covers to check if I'm still clothed. And I am, fully, so the the fuck am I doing here?

I sit with my thoughts for a moment before realising that Sebastian was the last person I was with. I shoot up from my seat on the bed and walk towards the desk in the corner of the room. There are a few misplaced items littering the ground but not enough to qualify the room as messy, nor to qualify it as neat.

I pick up a picture frame from the desk. I gaze at the little boy playing soccer, he holds the same features as Sebastian. He looks exactly like a miniature version of the boy I know now. It could only be his room.

The door squeaks as it opens and I watch as the familiar boy peaks his head in.

"You're awake." he announces.

"Thank you for that riveting observation." I roll my eyes.

"I see the attitude is back." he chuckles, moving himself to lay on his bed.

It's true, the high wore off somewhere in my sleep and I woke up feeling... normal as ever.

"Did you miss it?" I ask, joining him on the bed.

"I actually did, yes." he scoffs

"Really?" I look at him incredulously.

"Is that surprising?"

"Very" he shakes his head at me.

"I'm serious," I continue "high Adelina is a fun time."

"Well yes," he says, staring at me "and I like you both ways but I'd have to say sober Adelina takes the cake."

I gape at him, not expecting that. It's more of an assumption that I'm more durable high, not only that but I felt great, but hearing him say that sparks something in me.

"Awwww, you like me?" I quickly cover up and reach out the pinch his cheeks. Before I could understand what's happening, he grabs my hands and tugs me towards him. I fall into him because of the unexpected gesture and turn to look at him, my eyes asking every unspoken question.

"I actually quite do like you." he says softly. I gape at him, very much taken off guard.

"I don't blame you." I recover. He smiles and pushes me away from him.

"You pain me." he rolls his eyes.

"Stop doing that, it's my thing. I roll my eyes and you do whatever it is you do." he ignores me completely and preceeds to overdramatically continue the action. I'm the one shoving him this time.

"It's already eight o'clock," he says "I know you practically ate a horse a couple hours ago but we can order pizza if you want to."

"No that's alright," I yawn "still digesting."

"And still sleepy it seems."

"Fuck off."

He ignores me and gets under the covers. He lifts up the other side of the blanket and looks at me expectantly. I sigh and move to the small couch next to the desk.

He shrugs and turns around. I start to drift off to sleep once more before feeling that I'm picked up. My eyes lightly flutter and I'm placed on a much more comfortable surface before fatigue catches up with me.
