Extras

A/N: The extras are just random chapters that does not have anything to do with the story. This Extra chapter has to do with today's festivity, Valentine's Day! Even though I'm sure that day didn't really exist in this period yet, I'm going to include it. If it did, let me know! If not, let's pretend it did for the sake of this Extra chapter since the story is getting a bit intense; besides, we need breather once in a while right? Anyways, I've done a bit of research about what Chinese Valentine's day is like, but I didn't quite understand how to put it here, especially when it had different days and such. So I'm just going to do a classic Valentine's day chapter... Sorry. Lastly (before the chapter officially starts), I'm going to write a small story about Zhēn's past (different version) before you guys read the Valentine's day thing, that way you guys can understand the content better. If you guys want the full version of this background story, well... Depending over how many of you guys ask for it, I'll do it, but it'll most likely be at the end of the book, maybe I'll even include special moments in that chapter too; but again, depending on the amount of comments that ask for it, I'll gladly do it (as long as you guys don't end up getting confused by how the actual story goes).

~The mini story~

(Background story)

Lan Xichen came back and the news spread like wildfire. Everyone went to visit him, but no one knew just yet of Lan Zhēn because it was still too soon. A few years had passed and Xichen finally decided to show her to everyone, and decided to do so on her 5th birthday. As to make sure no one else knew of her existence, he placed a special seal in the letters, which means that the only ones that can read the letters, are the actual Clan Leaders, this was posible thanks to the letter sensing their finger prints. With gifts in hand, the Clan Masters left their Clans and departed towards Gusu to meat the small birthday girl.

Once at the Clan, they were seated at the Yashi, where the Grand Master of the Clan, Lan Qiren, explained to them the whole story. After the story was done, a Lan disciple appeared and bowed respectfully at everyone, informing them that Zewu Jun and Young Lady Lan have arrived. Stepping away, Lan Xichen appeared and walked to the front, a small bulge in his behind and small feets visible to everyone, making them laugh, chuckle and smile at the cute actions of the child. Turning to everyone, Lan Xichen bowed respectfully, everyone doing the same immediately.

Lan Xichen: "Friends. I thank you all for coming, I'm sure Uncle told you everything you needed to know. So why don't we introduce ourselves? *Looks down* Zhēn? Would you like to say hi?"

Rustles were heard and everyone saw a small portion of the little girl's face, everyone smiled and soon chuckled how she shut the little gap close.

Lan Xichen (smiling): "*chuckle* My apologies for her shyness. After all, this is her first time seeing people from out the Clan; and since this is her first time, why don't you all introduce yourselves first? Maybe then, she'll be less shy."

With this said, everyone would come up when called over and introduce themselves as well as giving their gifts to Lan Zhēn. Nie Mingjue gave her a stuffed white rabbit while Nie Huisang gave her a bag of brushes and a box with charcoal (an art kit). When it was Jin Guangyao's turn, she felt a bit uneasy with his presence, but her father encouraged her and she pushed aside the uneasy feeling, trusting her father's words; A-Yao gave her a beautiful bow and arrow, it was too big, but it basically made her jump excitedly the thought of learning how to use it one day, completely forgetting what she felt before. Jiang Cheng gave her a silver bell in which she liked it's chimming a lot, she also met Jin Ling at that moment... They were both too shy to even wave at each other, but at least they shared a smile! Clan Leader Ouyang gave her a small bracelet made out of precious stones (Zizhen wasn't there :'( ). Lastly, Clan Leader Yao gave her a silver hair pin that resembled different kinds of flowers. They all spent the entire week talking about Lan Zhēn, talking to Lan Zhēn, or about the gang as to help keep her safe. Before her sudden leave, she became good friends with Jin Ling during childhood.

Back to the Extra chapter: Valentine's day!

It was a beautiful early morning at the Lan Clan, serene and peaceful as always. But it wasn't any normal day, it was the day before Valentine's day! The day to give a gift to that special someone you hold so dear to your heart.

Childe Ouyang was currently staying in the Clan because his father was going to Japan to sign a peace treaty with a Clan Leader; and of course, the Lan Clan Leader offered himself to take care of Ouyang Zizhen, in which Clan Leader Ouyang agreed to. Childe Jin was also currently staying within the Clan, but his reason was a bit different; his two Uncles were too busy working as Clan Leaders, so they left Jin Ling at the Lan Clan, not that Lan Xichen complained. The two Childes were there for 3 days before tomorrow's special day, but they weren't going to be picked up by their guardian/parent any time soon either. So they remained together! They were currently improving their cultivation skills at the Cold Spring, meditating since mid-day; some other disciples were there too, but they left soon before 5:00 and the boys were still there, chatting once in a while. Once 5:30, the boys thought that it was enough meditating for today and dressed up (A/N: Maybe they took the outer layer off to feel more loose? Idk). Ouyang Zizhen suddenly popped the question...

Ouyang Zizhen: "So... Do you guys have anyone in mind?"

Lan Jingyi: "What do you mean?"

Ouyang Zizhen: "For tomorrow of course."

Jin Ling (curious): "What's tomorrow?"

Ouyang Zizhen (shocked): "You don't know!? We strolled through Gusu this morning. Did you not see anything different or new?"

Jin Ling (annoyed): "Quit averting the subject and tell me already!"

Ouyang Zizhen (still shocked): "Tomorrow is Valentine's day."

.

.

Ouyang Zizhen: "Please tell me you know what Valentine's day is."

Jin Ling: "Of course I know what it is! I'm not an idiot!"

Lan Jingyi: "Even I almost panicked. "

Ouyang Zizhen: "Anyways, I've got a woman in mind, and she so happens to be the most beautiful woman in existence."

Lan Jingyi: "How are you so sure?"

Lan Shizui: "I... I've also found someone."

Everyone turns to Shizui in shock.

Lan Jingyi: "You do?! How come I didn't know this?"

Shizui looked down in embarrassment, but couldn't help but smile as his cheeks flushed a light pink.

Jin Ling (chin up): "Then I'll might as well reveal that I also have someone in mind."

Lan Jingyi (teasing): "I already feel bad for the woman."

Jin Ling (angry): "You-!"

Lan Zhēn (smiling): "Good evening everyone."

Lan Jingyi/Shizui, Jin Ling, Ouyang Zizhen: "*while bowing respectfully* Lady Lan."

Lan Zhēn: "Shizui. Jingyi. Are you both done training?"

Lan Shizui (smiling): "Yes Miss Lan. Is there something you need of assistance with?"

Lan Zhēn: "No, Uncle Wangji just wanted me to tell you that he wants to speak to you both about something and that he expects you both to meet him in an hour at the Library Pavilion after he's, most likely, finished putting away the books he's been reading. That is all."

Lan Jingyi (smiling): "We'll be there and help Hanguang Jun put away the books then."

Lan Zhēn: "Very well then. I'll see you all later then *bowed*. Good bye!"

Lan Zhēn walked away while waving farewell to the four boys. Once the Lan Princess was far away, three particular boys sighed dreamily at the same time, thus snapping their attention towards each other. Jingyi laughed hysterically while the three boys stared at each other.

Lan Shizui (at Jin Ling): "You like Lady Lan too?"

Jin Ling (arms crossed): "Why not? You're not the only one who spent their childhood with her. (At Ouyang Zizhen) What about you?! You only knew her for a year in a half!"

Ouyang Zizhen: "Can you even blame me?! *Dreamily* She's the most beautiful and smartest woman I've ever met."

Lan Jingyi (teasing): "Yeah, and it was very noticeable during class."

Jin Ling snorted and Shizui covered his mouth at this, remembering how he kept staring at her while she read and got himself both caught and punished by the Grand Master himself.

Ouyang Zizhen: "Come on! Did you have to bring that in? It wasn't my intention to stare!"

Lan Jingyi (teasing): "Honestly, a true miracle that Lady Lan had no idea in why you were punished. Otherwise, she wouldn't be speaking to you at all, much less look at you."

Zizhen looked down in embarrassment while Jingyi laughed.

Lan Jingyi: "Anyway, back to topic. What do we do now? Three men in love with the same woman. What. To. Do."

Jingyi rubbed his chin while seeing how his three friends looked at each other seriously.

Lan Jingyi: "How about this? During the rest of the day, you guys are going to plan on either what gift to give her or how your confession will be or whatever, and tomorrow *puts arm around Shizui* you guys will work your magic. So, what do you guys think?"

Lan Shizui: "I don't know Jingyi. Wouldn't she be furious if she knew what we were talking about just now?"

Lan Jingyi: "If she knew. Besides, it's not like we're trying to offend her or anything, you guys are just competing for her love and attention."

Ouyang Zizhen (worried): "W-what about Zewu Jun? He's her father after all. Wouldn't he be furious if he knew what we'll be doing?"

Lan Jingyi: "Leave our superiors to me, all you guys need to do, is tell me when you are going to act, and I'll be keeping an eye on them."

Jin Ling: "What about Wen Ning? He's always around her, what are you going to do with him?"

Wen Ning: "What?"

The boys screamed when Wen Ning appeared behind them.

Ouyang Zizhen (teary): "For heaven's sake! You almost gave me a heart attack!"

Wen Ning: "I heard my name, so I came here."

Everyone stayed silent.

Lan Jingyi: "Aren't you supposed to be with Miss Lan?"

Wen Ning: "O-oh. Miss Lan is with Childe Wei, he dismissed me since he was on his way to meet Zewu Jun... So... What are you guys talking about?"

Lan Shizui: "W-well... We-"

Lan Jingyi: "We were going to meet up with Hanguang Jun at the Library Pavilion. So please excuse us, we don't want to keep him waiting."

Shizui and Jingyi bowed respectfully and left.

Jin Ling (uncomfortable): "..."

Ouyang Zizhen (nervous): "..."

Wen Ning (suspicious): "..."

Wen Ning suspiciously looks at how the two boys kept avoiding eye contact with him.

Wen Ning: "What are you guys planning?"

Jin Ling (eye roll): "Not world domination, that's for sure."

Ouyang Zizhen: "*fake yawns* Wow am I tired. I think I trained too much today, so I'm just gonna go and rest up."

Jin Ling: "Sleep? Hmp! What kind of future Master are you?! Clearly, I'm going continue training! Who knows? Maybe I'll even impress Zewu Jun with my skills."

Jin Ling says this while walking away, his words mocking Zizhen.

Ouyang Zizhen: "E-eh?! No! I'll train too! My sword skills are even better than your own you know!"

Jin Ling: "Oh please!"

The two boys bickered their way out of Wen Ning's presence. Wen Ning was still suspicious, he wasn't going to take it too seriously though because; what can four juniors possibly do? But still, he was going to keep an eye on them.

~The next day: Valentine's day~

Today was the day, the day these three boys would confess their feelings towards Lan Zhēn. The three of them had a Plan B in case the first one didn't work, and so... The competition started! Since Shizui was, in fact, who she was with the most, he was the first one. Because of Zizhen's way with words, he was able to tease Jin Ling to the point he got to be second and placed Jin Ling third, much for "Mistress Jin's" dismay.

Shizui's plans are inviting Lan Zhēn for a walk around the woods alone and leave his confession for last; and since this is something they normally do, Wen Ning isn't around, so they were completely alone.

Lan Zhēn (laughing): "Did that really happen to him?"

Lan Shizui: "Yeah, he snorted and ended up inhaling the noodle. It was hard getting the noodle out of his nose."

Lan Zhēn: "*laugh* Poor Jingyi!"

The two teens walked happily, laughing at old memories, specifically the ones where Zhēn wasn't present. They walked for an hour until they reached the back mountain, where the rabbits hopped and ran freely. Shizui gulped, seeing it was almost time for his confession.

Lan Shizui: "U-um... Princess?"

Zhēn turned to Shizui with a bunnie in her arms.

Lan Shizui: "I-I mean... Zhēn..."

Zhēn tilted her head in confusion, Shizui barely calls her by her name.

Lan Shizui: "D-Do you know... W-what today is?"

Zhēn thought for a moment, and perked.

Lan Zhēn: "Yes! Today's Valentine's day, right?"

Shizui nodded, he nervously walked to the side where the flowers for Zhēn... WERE placed, but he only saw the stems and a few munched petals, there was still even a rabbit munching on a petal.

Lan Zhēn: "Shizui?"

Shizui panicked and nervously laughed, which confused the poor girl more.

Lan Shizui: "I-I u-uh... W-well! U-um... *Nervous laugh* I forgot something."

Lan Zhēn: "Oh? Was it important?"

Lan Shizui: "Yes, *looks at the stems* very important."

Lan Zhēn: "What are you looking at-?"

Lan Shizui: "Nothing!"

His sudden burst surprised Zhēn, Shizui flinched.

Lan Shizui: "I-I mean... I'll be right back!"

Shizui bolted towards the back of a tree on a high hill where the rabbits wouldn't reach, where a basket of fruits were placed... To see it empty.

Lan Shizui (angry/panicked): "Little Apple."

Lan Zhēn: "Shizui?"

Lan Shizui: "Yes?!"

Lan Zhēn: "Are you okay? You seem a bit-"

Lan Shizui: "I-I'm fine Princess, I was just looking for-*SNAP*"

The small root Shizui was standing on for support broke making him fall and roll to the ground until infront of Zhēn. Zhēn giggled how his robe was over his head while he sat down in embarrassment, bunnies surrounding him in comfort for the poor boy.

Lan Zhēn (smiling): "Shizui."

Zhēn sat on her legs and gently pushes away his robe away from his pink face, both eyes meeting.

Lan Zhēn (smiling): "What are you trying to tell me?"

Lan Shizui: "Princess... I... I just wanted to say that... I-"

Wen Ning (calling): "Miss Lan?"

The two turned and stood to see Wen Ning jogging towards them.

Wen Ning: "Miss Lan, Miss Mika (a servant) wanted me to tell you that the delivery has arrived."

Zhēn perked and smiled gleefully. She placed the bunnie down and was about to leave until...

Lan Zhēn (smiling): "What was it that you were going to tell me Shizui?"

Lan Shizui: "U-um... I just wanted to say... *Sad smile* I'm glad I have you as a friend."

Zhēn looked down but smiled either way and softly nodded. With that, she left with Wen Ning by her side, leaving a broken Shizui with rabbits and a donkey.

Lan Jingyi: "Yiiiikes..."

Jingyi walked towards a gloomy Shizui, biting his thumb nail as to not speak more than he should and break his dear friend more than he already was.

Lan Jingyi: "Look at the bright side! *Place arm on Shizui* At least you gave her a good laugh."

Shizui looked at Jingyi, nothing but disappointment and sadness in his eyes. Jingyi slowly takes his arm off and signals him to come with him, without eye contact of course.

They reached to the waterfall mountain where Jin Ling and Zizhen were waiting.

Jin Ling: So? How did it go?"

Lan Jingyi: "None of your business! You concentrate on your plans in attracting Miss Lan."

Jin Ling 'hmped' and looked away. Shizui looked at Zizhen curiously when seeing him with a bow and arrow. Noticing this, Zizhen explained.

Ouyang Zizhen: "Oh! *Shows bow* My plans are to impress Miss Lan with my abilities!"

Lan Shizui: "But... Aren't you bad with it archery?"

Ouyang Zizhen: "I've been practicing! Jeez, you guys have so little hope on me. Here! I'll show you! You see that target over there?"

The boys looked up at the target that was basically at the edge of the mountain; but where they were standing, the target was a bit covered by branches, it was still visible though.

Ouyang Zizhen: "I'm gonna shoot the arrow there. Observe!"

Jin Ling: "I bet you'll fail."

Ouyang Zizhen: "Shush! I'm trying to concentrate."

Zizhen readied his arrow and shot...

*Shoot*

*Bird noise*

*Feathery thud*

Lan Jingyi (scared/worried): "Is that a White-eared Night Heron?"

Lan Shizui, covering his mouth with the back of his hand, nodded with a mortified face.

Zizhen slowly lowered his bow with teary eyes, fear covering his face.

Jin Ling: "Aren't those birds in the brink of extinction? Critically speaking."

Zizhen made a small squeal while rolling his eyes upwards...

*Thud*

... And fainted. The fear coursing through his body being too much for his still young self to handle. Being the good friend he is, Shizui stayed with Zizhen as to comfort his mortified friend and help come up with a reasonable excuse as to not be kicked out of the Clan permanently, and perhaps even avoid bringing dishonor to the Ouyang Clan; while Jingyi accompanied Jin Ling down towards the inside the Clan residence, where Lan Zhēn was last seen walking around with the other maidens of the Clan.

Lan Jingyi: "Alright, I'm gonna go and distract Wen Ning by asking for his help on something, and that's where you come up and volunteer in protecting Miss Lan while he's away. Got it?"

Jin Ling nodded, and they both started sprinting towards the duo.

Lan Jingyi: "Wen Ning! We need your help on something real quick."

Wen Ning (worried): "What's wrong?"

Lan Jingyi: "There was a small accident at the Waterfalls in the mountains. Shizui is there right now while I went down looking for you."

Lan Zhēn (worried): "What kind of accident?"

Lan Jingyi: "I'm sorry Princess, but there's no time to explain. Jin Ling can stay here and take care of you while Wen Ning comes with me towards Shizui. Is that okay?"

Lan Zhēn: "Of course. Go When Ning, I'll be fine. They need you more than I do."

Although Wen Ning was hesitant, he nonetheless bowed to his lady and went with Jingyi up the mountain. On their way there though...

Wen Ning: "What happened?"

Lan Jingyi: "O-oh, it's Childe Ouyang! He killed an endangered bird by accident and fainted out of fear."

Wen Ning: "..."

~Meanwhile with LingZhēn~

(You can come up with a better ship name)

Lan Zhēn: "Do you know what happened?"

Jin Ling: "N-no, I was minding my own business until Jingyi came and dragged me here."

Lan Zhēn nodded and looked worriedly towards where the two males ran off to.

Jin Ling: "... Not that I'm complaining about it."

The girl turned to Jin Ling and smiled warmly at him, he smiled back.

Jin Ling: "I actually wanted to give you an update of my sword skills, and may I dare say, I'm very close in winning Uncle on a sword fight."

Lan Zhēn: "Aah, I see. So you've been practicing a lot then."

Jin Ling (confident): "Yes! I might even impress Zewu Jun and Hanguang Jun too! I could even impress you one day!

Zhēn smiled and shifted awkwardly, these moments with Jin Ling always made her feel a bit irritated since he was a rather proud person. At this moment, Jingyi was able to escape Wen Ning and come back here to try and help his Jin friend... But ended up seeing his friend's failure instead.

Jin Ling: "In fact! I can protect you and not allow a single person touch a strand of your delicate hair."

Lan Jingyi (flinch/cringe): "嘚!(dé)!"

Lan Zhēn (triggered): "Jin Ling. I'm a grown independent teenage girl that has mastered not only swordsmanship, but archery, many hand in hand combats such as BaGuaZhang (Gentle Fist), Muay Thai, and Aikido; medications, and many others more. I don't need a man to protect me, Wen Ning is only there because his senses are far more better than our human ones, so being with is is like being alone. What made you think I needed your protection?"

Jin Ling: "W-well-"

Lan Zhēn: "Now, shall we change topic as to not trigger our friendship?"

Jin Ling flinched at the "friendship" word, and thought of his plan B since Plan A didn't work.

Jin Ling: "Well, why not us considering today is Valentine's day? Have you given anything to someone?"

Lan Zhēn: "No; and seeing your 'dashing' way of words, you won't be receiving anything from a lady."

Jin Ling: "I wasn't expecting anything in the first place! But, that won't stop me from giving anything a woman desires. Out of curiosity, what would you like if I were to buy you something?"

Jingyi couldn't look anymore, so he hid (he also covered his face) and could only hear what is most likely his friend's ultimate rejection.

Lan Zhēn (angry): "Excuse me?! You think that I care about the money?! How dare you!"

Jin Ling (panicked): "No! It's not like that! I-I meant that I can give you anything you'd like, that's all!"

Lan Zhēn (angry): "I can't BELIEVE you! Honestly! Is this the man you grew up to be?! I don't need a man to protect me, NOR a man to buy me materialistic things that I myself can buy at ANYTIME I want!"

Jin Ling: "W-wait! Where are you going?!"

Lan Zhēn (angry): "Somewhere better than here. Good! Day!"

Jingyi slowly peeked around the corner to see if it was safe to go out, while all Jin Ling could do is glare at the floor. He was so angry of his failure, even the rock infront of him annoyed him.

*KICK*

*Bounce*

*Hit*

*THUMP*

Lan Wangji (worriedly): "Wei Ying!"

Jin Ling: "*GASP*"

Lan Jingyi: "*wince*"

Seeing how things were going, Jingyi slowly turned around and silently walked away. All he could do for his poor friend, was hope and pray Hanguang Jun doesn't end up killing him for kicking a rock at Predecesor Wei's forehead.

Lan Jingy (smiling): "Well! Congratulations to you all! *Single clap* You are all failures!"

Lan Shizui (sternly): "Jingyi!"

Lan Jingy: "What? At least YOU made her laugh!"

Shizui shook his head in disapproval at Jingyi while he poured cold water on his two friend's back inside the Cold Pond.

Jin Ling (at Zizhen): "I still can't believe they only gave you 30 hits while I had 50; Wei Wuxian isn't even an endangered species!"

Ouyang Zizhen: "You're disappointed of that?! At least I didn't try to BUY my way into Miss Lan's heart."

Jin Ling huffed and pulled Zizhen's hair down, donking him in the Cold water.

Lan Shizui (serious): "Childe Jin!"

Jin Ling: "What?! He started it!"

Shaking, Zizhen head locked Jin Ling and pulled him in the cold water as well. The two teenagers soon started wrestling, still not fully recovered from their punishment.

Lan Shizui: "Guys please! You're still injured! *Turns to Jingyi* Jingyi! Help me out here!"

Lan Jingyi: "Pfft! As if I'm going in the pond and get myself wet for those two."

Shizui gave him the "Are you serious?" look.

Lan Zhēn (calling): "Jingyi!"

*Silence*

Lan Zhēn (calling): "Jingyi are you there?"

Jin Ling and Zizhen went and picked up their clothes from the rocks and put them on in case Lan Zhēn were to come to the pond. Jingyi answered still on his spot.

Lan Jingyi: "Yes I'm here! Do you need of my assistance?"

Lan Zhēn: "Yes please! If you're not busy that is!"

Lan Jingyi: "Not at all! I'll be right there! *Turns to the rest and teasingly smirks* Well! Duty caaalls."

Jingyi laughs and runs away when he dodged Jin Ling's shoe, thrown by an angered Jin Ling.

Lan Zhēn (smiling): "Jingyi. I'm sorry if I disturbed you, I just need a bit of your assistance while A-Yuan is busy treating the boys."

Lan Jingyi: "Well, it IS my job to serve you."

Lan Zhēn: "*laugh* Of course."

The two then went down and Jingyi could see a few servants leaving the kitchen with baskets. Nearing the said place, the delicious scent of cocoa and baked cakes reached his nose.

Lan Jingyi: "What's going on Princess?"

Lan Zhēn smiled at her curious friend and handed him a basket, the same one everyone had.

Lan Zhēn: "Here! Give these to the boys at the pond, but keep in mind that one of them is yours. Alright?"

Lan Jingyi: "What are these?"

Lan Zhēn: "I made chocolate muffins for everyone within the Clan."

Lan Jingyi: "Oooh... *sees her basket* Will you be handing muffins too?"

Lan Zhēn: "No. This one is for my Valentine."

Lan Jingy (interested): "Really? Who?!"

Lan Jingyi: "Guys! Guys! Miss Lan made muffins for everyone."

Ouyang Zizhen: "So you're not her Valentine?"

Jingy laughed, which confused the three boys.

Lan Jingyi: "Get this, you're not going to BELIEVE who her Valentine is!"

The girl was in front of his room, she knocked and was given permission to come in. Once revealing herself...

??? (surprised): "Zhēn."

Lan Zhēn smiles while handing her nicely decorated basket to the man she loves.

"Happy Valentine's day Papa!"
