SCOTT HELPED WREN OUT OF THE CAR, AND THEY SPOTTED ISAAC QUICKLY. He was standing outside of the gym, scanning the faces of everyone that was walking into the gym. She grinned when she saw him holding a corsage, and the McCall boy smirked behind her. "Looks like someone likes you."
"Shut up," she muttered, but it felt nice. She had someone that liked her, really liked her, and he was a nice, normal guy. As they approached from behind him, Isaac checked his watch. She paused nervously, and Scott gave her a final push before heading into the gym. She finally reached up and tapped the Lahey boy on the shoulder, causing him to spin around. She greeted, "Hey."
He went speechless, kind of just stammering out random syllables at the sight of her. "You look..." he started, but he trailed off when she spun around, the skirt of her dress twirling with her. She took his silence as a complement and giggled.
"Thanks. Shall we?" she asked, gesturing toward the doors of the gym and offering her arm for him to take.
He nodded slowly, like he was in disbelief that he was actually taking her to the dance. She was shocked that he was so excited. It wasn't like she had a line of guys waiting to go out with her. Maybe he hadn't heard everything about her. He took her arm, and the two walked into the dance, music filling their ears as soon as they stepped inside.
There were people dancing, drinking, talking, and making out, and Coach Finstock seemed to be having trouble keeping up with it all. He was going around, making sure people were leaving room for Jesus, but there was one of him and hundreds of them. Isaac went to get them some drinks, and Wren scanned the room for people that she knew.
She laughed out loud when she saw Scott on the dance floor with his arms around Danny's neck, swaying softly to the beat. She headed over to them with a smug look on her face, interrupting what seemed to be like a beautiful moment. "Danny, you mind if I steal your date?"
"Please do. I owe you one," he breathed out in relief.
"What are friends for?" she responded, and he patted her on the back before running off to find someone better to dance with. She turned back to Scott, placing her hands on his shoulders as his made their way to her waist. She smirked up at him. "Danny, huh? I didn't think he was your type."
He rolled his eyes but smiled nonetheless. He was glad she was there because he was scared that he was going ot have to dance with Danny all night and not get a chance to find Allison. "Shut up. I had to get Coach off my back somehow."
"I don't think he'll be bothering you again tonight, but I can't say the same about tomorrow," she sighed, knowing that Finstock was going to give him hell the next day. He was not technically supposed to be there since he was failing a bunch of classes.
He waved her off, not wanting to think about that. They had bigger problems to worry about, and he wanted to have fun that night. "That seems like a problem for future Scott and Wren."
"And Wren?" she quizzed, raising her eyebrows because that did not seem like something that involved her. That sounded like her laughing at him while he had to be a ball boy for a month or something. She did not want his punishment to be awful, but she hoped that she could at least get some enjoyment out of it.
"Well, my problems are your problems," he reminded her, moving his hand for a second to pat on his chest. She was his best friend, so everything that affected him affected her. "Solidarity, sister."
She laughed, "Oh, right. I forgot." They fell into a comfortable silence for a moment before he spoke up again, but he seemed a lot more nervous about whatever he was going to say.
"My mom was right," he informed her, and she raised her eyebrows to ask what he was talking about. His mom had said quite a few things in her lifetime, so she was bound to be right about something at some point, being a wise woman and all. The words that came out of his mouth were completely unexpected, though. "You do look really beautiful tonight."
Her breath hitched in her throat at that, and she scanned his face for a moment, looking for anything that wasn't completely serious. In her examination, she also realized something that she had never really noticed before. Scott was really attractive. Of course, she had always known that he wasn't bad-looking, but it wasn't until then that she really thought about it.
When she realized what she was thinking about, she snapped out of her trance, shaking her head and feeling extremely guilty as she stepped away from him. "Uh, I better get back to Isaac."
"I have to go find Allison," he agreed, and he seemed like he had snapped out of something as well.
She did not stick around to talk anymore, pushing her way through the crowd and back to the open space until she bumped into Isaac again. He raised his eyebrows, slightly concerned when he saw her flushed face. "Everything good?"
"Yep," she confirmed, and she felt awful. She grabbed one of the cups of punch from his hand and downed the whole thing, glad it wasn't spiked. She then placed it on the table, and offered him her hand. "Wanna dance?"

WREN WAS SITTING ALONE WHEN HER PHONE RANG. She had been there for a couple of hours, and Isaac had gone to the bathroom. She looked down at the table to see Scott's number appear on the screen. She furrowed her eyebrows because she had thought that he was out somewhere with Allison. "Hey, what's up?" she greeted, picking up, but all she heard on the other side was heavy breathing. She stood up, concerned, "Scott, what's wrong? Where are you?"
"Animal clinic," he muttered, and she hung up, throwing her phone into her purse and almost running out of the gym and to her car.
She was at his work within ten minutes, and she ran inside. She had changed into other shoes in the car because heels were just not the best attire when searching for your best friend. She scanned the room, and she was confused when she saw that it was completely empty.
"You came," she heard all of a sudden, and she looked down to see Scott huddled in a corner. It looked like he had been crying, and her face immediately softened.
She nodded, wondering why he seemed surprised. He called her, sounding like he needed help. Of course she came. She would always come. She responded simply, "You called." Then, she extended her hand out toward him. He took it with a small smile and let her pull him to her feet.
"We need to find Derek," he told her once they were up, and she reached up to wipe the tears off of his face like a mom while he swatted her hand away. "And I think I know how to find him."
"Then what are we waiting for?"
She took him to the preserve where he proceeded to howl loudly on a cliff to the town. Wren plugged her ears as he did so, not enjoying the sound and kind of cringing while it happened. Once he was done, he waited a moment, listening. He perked up, letting her know that he heard something, and he quickly ushered her back to the car to find him.
When they found him, he was chained up shirtless in a cellar, and he had blood running down his chest. It was obvious that he was being tortured, and his eyes lit up as soon as they ran in. " Scott, help me with this."
"No," the McCall boy responded, and both of the others were shocked. The blonde girl thought that the entire reason that they were there was to free Derek. She was fine with letting him hang there forever, but she was still confused. "Not until you tell me how to stop Peter."
"You really wanna talk about this right now?" the Hale man scoffed, staring at the younger werewolf in disbelief.
Wren had not asked Scott about what had been bothering him because she just assumed that it was Allison and just regular werewolf troubles. However, something else seemed to be going on. "He's going after Allison and her family. He's going to kill them."
"So what?" the man chained to the wall exclaimed. He did not give a crap what happened the Allison and her family. They had tried to kill him on multiple occasions.
Wren tsked at him, wondering just how stupid he could be. "Derek, just for future reference, at least pretend like you care about your rescuers' worries. It tends to get you out faster. Now, tell us how to stop him."
"You can't!" he shouted, and they shot him unimpressed looks. No one was unstoppable. "All right? Now, I don't know when Kate's coming back, so just get me out of this right now! Get me out right now! You want me to risk my life for your girlfriend? For your stupid little teenage crush that means absolutely nothing? You're not in love, Scott! You're sixteen years old! You're a child!"
"You know, that might not be the best thing to say to someone that could save you," the Carter girl told him once again. They had to power to just leave him there to be tortured, and he was screaming at Scott.
Scott wasn't affected, though. He knew what he wanted to do, and he wasn't going to let Derek stop him. "Maybe you're right... But, I know something you don't. Peter said he didn't know what he was doing when he killed your sister, right? He lied."
AUTHOR'S NOTE
guys, I know this is a Scott fic, but it's slow burn and I love Isaac. So, I had to slip him in there somewhere. Also, are we getting some Wren and Scott moments with some tension? We might be.
