A Curious Query
â¿â¡â¡â¡â¿
It was a crisp Monday morning, and Aarav and Kabir were walking to their classroom after football practice. Aarav had been unusually quiet, his thoughts entangled in the events of the weekend. He couldn't shake off the word "jiju" that Nitya had casually thrown out during the parikrama.
Kabir noticed his friend's pensive demeanor. "Oye, Captain Kapoor, kya hua? Subah se itna serious kyun lag raha hai? Practice toh amazing thi, aur tumhe usual khadoos mode mein hona chahiye."
Aarav smirked slightly but didn't reply immediately. As they climbed the stairs, he finally spoke. "Kabir, ek baat puchhni hai."
"Puchh na. Tu jaan hai meri saale Captain mode se nikal aur dost mode activate kar Meri jaan," Kabir joked.
Aarav hesitated, then said, "Agar ek ladki apni friend ke kisi dost ko 'jiju' bole, toh iska matlab kya hota hai?"
Kabir stopped in his tracks, staring at Aarav as if he'd just confessed to robbing a bank. "Kya? 'Jiju'? Yeh kahan se aa gaya tumhari life mein?"
Aarav shrugged, trying to appear nonchalant. "Bas ek scenario discuss kar raha hoon."
Kabir wasn't convinced. "Scenario ke naam par itna blush mat kar, Captain. Pehle pura incident bata tu usually aisi bate karne vala insan hai hi nahi."
Aarav rolled his eyes but recounted the events at the temple, including Nitya's slip and the awkward aftermath.
Kabir burst out laughing, clutching his stomach. "Arey wah! Sharma ji ke parivaar ka level dekho. Seedha 'jiju' tak pahunch gaye."
"Serious ho ja, Kabir," Aarav said, scowling. "Tera analysis chahiye."
Kabir tried to contain his laughter. "Dekho, generally ladkiyan aise mazaak mein bolti hain. It's their way of teasing. Aur Nitya ne bhi tum dono ke expression dekh kar bola hoga."
Aarav frowned. "Par kya pata, uska 'jiju' kisi aur ke liye ho?"
Kabir gave him a knowing smile. "Ab tum yeh soch rahe ho ki Meera ke sath jo ladki thi, woh kisi aur ladke ke liye 'jiju' bol rahi thi? Aarav Kapoor, tum toh overthinking ke Maharaja nikle."
"Abe nahi yr vo bas aisi hi sonch rha tha," Aarav admitted, his tone quieter than usual.
Kabir patted his shoulder. "Relax, Captain. Agar kuch baat hogi bhi, toh waqt sab clear kar dega. Abhi ke liye chill kar aur apni practice pe dhyan dete hain."
Aarav nodded, though Kabir's words did little to calm his restless thoughts.
Meanwhile, in the 11th-grade classroom, Meera and Riya were busy completing their assignments. The physics teacher, Mr. Tripathi, entered the room, his usual stern expression in place. The class instantly quieted down, sensing his mood.
"Good morning, class," he said, scanning the room with his sharp eyes. "Aaj hum vectors ka discussion karenge. Let's see who has actually studied."
His gaze landed on Aman, the self-proclaimed class clown. Aman was busy doodling in his notebook, oblivious to the impending doom.
"Aman!" Mr. Sharma barked.
Aman jumped in his seat. "Yes, sir!"
"Can you explain the concept of vector addition?"
Aman blinked, clearly caught off guard. He looked around as if seeking divine intervention. "Sir... Vector Addition means... When two vectors are combined and... and..."
The class suppressed their giggles as Aman stumbled through his answer.
"Continue, Aman," Mr. Tripathi said, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "And?"
"...And he creates a new vector which... which..." Aman paused, scratching his head. "Which is a combination of both vectors, sir."
The class erupted in laughter. Riya whispered to Meera, "Lagta hai Aman ne vectors se zyada apne jokes ki practice kar rakha hai."
Meera giggled, watching as Mr. Tripathi pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration. "Aman, tumhari explanation sun kar lagta hai ki mujhe bhi physics chhod kar comedy join kar leni chahiye."
Aman grinned sheepishly. "Sir, main toh bas apne jo puchha uska answer dene ki koshish kar raha tha."
"Ye answer tha? Tum vectors ko joke bana rahe ho. Kal tak complete notes likh kar lana, warna principal ke office mein creativity dikhana," Mr. Sharma snapped.
The class burst into laughter again, and even Meera couldn't hold back. Aman, however, seemed unbothered, leaning back in his chair as if he'd just won a battle.
After class, Meera and Riya couldn't stop teasing Aman about his performance.
"Aman, tumhara answer toh physics ki history mein likha jayega," Meera said, laughing.
"Haan," Riya added. "Agar ek award hota 'Physics Ke jokes', toh tum pehla prize le jaate."
Aman smirked. "At least main class ka focus ban gaya. Tum dono ka kya?"
"Hum toh bas tumhari shaan mein char chand lagane aaye hain," Meera replied, her eyes twinkling with mischief.
Aman pretended to bow. "Shukriya, shukriya."
The lighthearted banter continued, filling the classroom with laughter and camaraderie. Meera cherished these moments with her friends, even as Aarav lingered somewhere in the back of her mind.
Meanwhile, Aarav couldn't shake off his curiosity about Meera and Nitya's words. He replayed the scene at the temple in his mind, analyzing every detail.
"Jiju," he muttered under his breath, a small smile tugging at his lips. He wondered if Kabir was right-was it just a tease, or did it mean something more?
One thing was certain: Meera Sharma had become a puzzle he couldn't stop solving.
----------------------------------------------------
It was Tuesday morning, and the 12th-grade hallway buzzed with chatter. The hum of conversations was punctuated by nervous laughter and the occasional sound of someone flipping through their notes. Aarav sat at his usual spot near the window in the classroom, flipping a pen between his fingers as he stared at the lush greenery outside. His mind wasn't on the upcoming physics test or even Kabir's jokes-it was on Meera.
Ever since the temple visit, her presence seemed to hover around him like a shadow. No matter how much he tried to focus on his studies or football practice, her voice, her laughter, and even her mischievous comments about him being 'Captain Kapoor' refused to leave him alone.
Kabir plopped into the seat beside him, dropping his bag with a loud thud. "Oye, Captain, abhi tak serious mode on? Kya baat hai? Kal raat pure time physics test ke sapne dekh rahe the kya?"
Aarav rolled his eyes, but Kabir wasn't done. "Waise tumhari ladkiyon ki analysis wali baat ne kal mera dimag ghooma diya. Nitya ka 'jiju' toh ek alag hi plot twist ban gaya hai."
Aarav didn't reply. He was saved from Kabir's teasing by the entrance of their physics teacher, Mr. Tripathi, who walked in holding a stack of papers that looked suspiciously like exam schedules.
"Good morning, class," he said, his voice cutting through the chatter like a knife. "I hope everyone is ready for an important announcement."
The room went silent, and even Kabir straightened in his seat.
"As you know, your exams are starting next Monday. The schedule will be pinned to the notice board after this period. I suggest you start preparing immediately. This is your chance to secure marks for your college applications."
The announcement was met with a collective groan. Aarav felt a sense of calm wash over him-finally, something to distract him from the whirlwind of thoughts. Kabir, however, leaned over and whispered, "Captain, ab toh tu aur bhi busy ho jayega. Tumhare liye acha time hai focus karne ka."
Aarav gave him a look but stayed silent.
Meanwhile, in the 11th-grade classroom, the reaction to the announcement was more dramatic. Meera and Riya exchanged horrified looks, while Aman slammed his notebook shut.
"Exams? Monday se? Yeh toh injustice hai!" Aman declared, his voice loud enough to draw the attention of their classmates.
Riya rolled her eyes. "Aman, tumhe exams ke baare mein tab yaad aata hai jab date sheet lag jati hai."
"Tumhe kya? Tum dono toh class ke topper squad mein ho. Hum jaise aam students ke liye yeh ek emotional attack hai," Aman said, clutching his chest dramatically.
Meera laughed. "Tumhe emotional attack tab hota hai jab homework submit karna hota hai. Exams ke liye toh tumhara usual attitude 'chalega' hota hai."
Before Aman could reply, their math teacher, Ms. Desai, entered the room with her ever-stern expression. "Alright, class, settle down. Before we begin, I'd like to remind you about the importance of preparing for your exams. Remember, mathematics is all about practice."
The classroom fell silent, though Meera and Riya exchanged a quick smirk. As the lecture started, Aman scribbled a doodle of a stick figure labeled "Meera: Future Scientist" on his notebook and passed it to her.
Meera glanced at the doodle and bit back a laugh. She scribbled "Aman: Future Stand-Up Comedian" underneath and passed it back. This continued throughout the period, earning them a warning glare from Ms. Desai.
During lunch, Meera, Riya, and Aman gathered at their usual spot under the neem tree in the school courtyard. Aman was still ranting about the exams.
"Seriously, yeh teachers mil kar conspiracy karte hain humare khilaf," he said, munching on a samosa. "Aise short notice pe exams announce karna toh unfair hai."
Riya sighed. "Short notice? Exams schedule har baar aise hi to hote hai. Tum hi ho jo notice nahi karte."
"Yaar, ek din toh relax karne do," Aman said dramatically, looking at Meera for support.
Meera grinned. "Relax karne ke liye poora time tha tumne bas Masti me nikal diya, Aman. Abhi toh serious ho jao."
Their laughter echoed across the courtyard, drawing a few amused glances from other students. In the distance, Aarav passed by with Kabir. His gaze flickered briefly to the trio under the tree. Meera's carefree laughter reached his ears, and for a moment, he slowed his pace.
Kabir noticed. "Oye, kya dekh raha hai? Chal, library chalte hain."
Aarav nodded, forcing himself to look away. Focus, Aarav. Studies first. Yet, her laughter lingered in his mind.
As the week progressed, the school turned into a hub of frantic activity. The classrooms buzzed with discussions about notes and formulas, while the library became the go-to spot for last-minute studying.
Aarav buried himself in his physics and chemistry books, his usual discipline in full force. Yet, every now and then, his mind drifted to Meera. He found himself glancing at her during assembly or spotting her in the cafeteria. She seemed unfazed by the impending exams, her laughter and camaraderie with Aman and Riya intact.
In contrast, Meera noticed Aarav's silence. While she was used to his serious demeanor, his complete ignorance of her felt strange. "Captain Kapoor zyada hi focused ho gaye hai," she joked to Riya one afternoon.
"Good for you," Riya replied. "Waise bhi, tumhare paas main aur Aman hai jokes ke liye."
Meera laughed but found her gaze drifting to the 12th-grade classroom. Aarav's silence bothered her more than she cared to admit.
On Friday afternoon, as Meera was leaving the library with a pile of books, she nearly bumped into Aarav at the door. Their eyes met, and for a moment, neither spoke.
"Sorry," she said, breaking the silence.
Aarav nodded curtly and stepped aside, letting her pass. His heart raced as he walked away, and he couldn't help but glance back.
