The Cultural Event Buzz
After Mr. Desai's announcement, the school was alive with excitement. Groups of students crowded the corridors, debating their roles in the cultural event. The buzz carried into the senior classrooms, where Kabir leaned back in his chair, already brainstorming excuses to avoid participating.
"Cultural events and Kabir Mehta don't mix," he declared, spinning his pen dramatically.
"You'll still end up in trouble if you don't join," Aarav replied, flipping through his physics notes.
"Trouble ka toh pata nahi, but agar Sharma waha ho, toh tere liye fun guaranteed hai," Kabir teased.
Aarav didn't dignify that with a response, though his ears turned slightly red.
-------------------------------------------------
Meera's Mission
Meanwhile, in the junior section, Meera was already in full planning mode. She stood in the middle of her group, hands on her hips, issuing instructions like a general before a battle.
"Riya, tu list banayegi participants ki. Aman, tujhe rehearsals ke liye location book karna hai," Meera said, scribbling in her notebook.
"And tum kya karogi, madam?" Aman asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Main? Main sabse important kaam karungi-seniors ko line pe le aane ka," Meera declared.
Riya smirked. "Seniors? Ya Kapoor sirf?"
Meera grinned. "Captain Kapoor bhi aur unka poora gang bhi."
-------------------------------------------------
The WhatsApp Group
By lunch break, Meera had convinced the organizing committee to create an official WhatsApp group for participants. She ensured every senior and junior was added, including Aarav, Kabir, Priyanka, and others.
The group name? "Xavier's Talent Parade 2024".
The conversation exploded with messages the moment it was created:
Riya: "Welcome, people! Time to showcase your talent!"
Kabir: "Talent? Matlab excuses dene ka talent chalega kya?"
Meera: "Kabir bhaiya, aapki excuses ki list bhi entertain karenge."
Aman: "Meera ka mission hai sabko stage pe dance karwana."
Meera: "Not everyone... bas kuch log jo seriously boring hain."
Priyanka: "Excuse me? Boring kaun?"
At that moment, Aarav's number popped into the group. Meera's eyes sparkled as she saw it: +91 9876******- Aarav Kapoor.
She quickly saved his contact in her phone in the name of Captain Seriousðand sent a private message.
-------------------------------------------------
Meera: "Hello, Captain Kapoor ð"
Aarav, who rarely used WhatsApp for anything but academic discussions, frowned at the unfamiliar tone.
Aarav: "Who's this?"
Meera: "Aap itne busy hote ho ki school ki head girl ko bhi nahi pehchante?"
Aarav sighed.
Aarav: "Meera Sharma."
Meera: "Wahi toh! Aapka naya naam rakha hai-Captain Serious."
For a moment, Aarav considered ignoring her, but something about Meera's teasing amused him.
Aarav: " kahiye kya kam hai apko madam?"
Meera: "Aapko thoda human banane ka kaam mila hai."
Aarav: "I don't need help."
Meera: "Chinta mat kariye, Captain Kapoor. Help karna meri duty hai. Hum milke kaafi maza karenge."
Before Aarav could reply, Kabir leaned over his shoulder in the classroom. "Bhai, Sharma messaging kar rahi hai? Group mein already tu trending hai."
Aarav shut his phone, pretending to focus on his notes. But his thoughts kept drifting to Meera's playful messages.
--------------------------------------------------
Afternoon Rehearsal Chaos
The participants gathered in the auditorium for the first rehearsal session. Meera, with her clipboard in hand, took charge immediately.
"Okay, seniors on the left, juniors on the right," she called out. "We're starting with a group meeting to discuss themes."
Kabir yawned loudly. "Theme? Main suggest karta hoon Netflix-and-chill."
"Thank you, Kabir," Meera replied, deadpan. "Aapke suggestions hamesha itne... unique hote hain."
As everyone settled into their groups, Priyanka walked up to Aarav. "I hope you're ready for the drama. This whole event is going to be chaotic."
"I'll survive," Aarav replied curtly.
From the other side of the room, Meera noticed Priyanka's attempt to monopolize Aarav's attention. Nudging Riya, she whispered, "Dekha? Inhi logo ne unko Captain Serious bnaya hua hai kabhi cool hone hi nhi dete."
"Tu ab kya kregi?" Riya asked, amused.
Meera grinned mischievously. "Woh toh stage pe pata chalega."
-------------------------------------------------
The Stage Challenge
"Let's start with a warm-up!" Meera announced, stepping onto the stage. "Seniors vs. juniors in a quick round of dumb charades!"
Aarav groaned inwardly. Kabir, on the other hand, clapped enthusiastically. "Captain, yeh toh dekhna padega."
Meera pointed to Aarav. "Captain Kapoor, seniors ki team ka lead karoge?"
"I'm not interested," Aarav said firmly.
"Arre, aapko zyada karna nahi padega," Meera insisted. "Bas guess karna hai... ya haarna hai."
The room erupted in laughter. Aarav sighed, knowing there was no escape.
As the game began, Meera deliberately chose the most challenging movie titles for Aarav's team. When it was his turn to guess, Kabir flailed his arms, trying to mime Lagaan.
"Cricket? British? Farming?" Aarav guessed with increasing frustration.
"Captain Kapoor," Meera called out, giggling. "Aap se yeh chhoti si guessing bhi nahi ho rahi?"
The juniors won the round, leaving Meera beaming. Aarav, for the first time, cracked a tiny smile-though he quickly masked it.
--------------------------------------------------
A Call for Trouble
That evening, Aarav's phone buzzed again. It was a call from an unknown number.
"Hello?" he answered, his tone cautious.
"Aap bahut serious ho, Captain Kapoor," came Meera's cheerful voice. "Thought I'd remind you to loosen up."
"How did you get my number?" Aarav asked, though he already knew the answer.
"WhatsApp group se," Meera replied breezily. "Aur ab aapka yeh secret mission hai: ek din ke liye chill karna. Kya keh rahe ho sahi rahega?"
"I don't do 'chill,'" Aarav replied, though there was a faint trace of amusement in his voice.
"Dekhte hain," Meera said, her voice full of promise. "Ab toh maza aayega."
As she hung up, Aarav shook his head, unable to stop a small smile from forming. For the first time, he wondered if this year might be different-and maybe even memorable.
-------------------------------------------------
Aarav Kapoor's mornings were a model of discipline. His alarm rang at 5:30 AM sharp, and within an hour, he completed his morning run and reviewed the notes for his physics class.
"Beta, nashta ready hai," his mother, Kavita Kapoor, called from the kitchen. A meticulous homemaker and a retired banker, she was the family's backbone. Aarav's father, Raghav Kapoor, was a civil engineer and a man of few words-just like his son.
"Haan, mom," Aarav replied, sitting down for breakfast. His sister, Ishika, a third-year college student, was scrolling Instagram at the table.
"Aarav, tujhe pata hai Priyanka Verma tere saath kaafi stories post karti hai?" Ishika teased.
"Stories?" Aarav frowned, sipping his tea.
Ishika smirked. "Haan. 'Study buddy goals' type ka. Tu kab se influencer ban gaya?"
"Main social media ke liye time nahi nikalta," Aarav replied curtly, though his ears turned red. Ishika's laughter followed him out the door as he left for school.
-------------------------------------------------
Meera Sharma's mornings were the opposite of Aarav's. By 7:30 AM, she was still rushing to get ready. Her younger brother, Ayaan, sat on the sofa, munching on toast and watching cartoons.
"Meera di, kya tumhara dance practice school mein hi hota hai?" Ayaan asked innocently.
"Haan, hota hai," Meera said, stuffing books into her bag.
"Toh mujhe bhi sikhao na!"
"Pehle homework complete karna seekho," she retorted, grabbing her mother's homemade paratha roll before rushing out the door. Her father, Arvind Sharma, a journalist, and her mother, Shalini Sharma, a dance teacher, exchanged amused glances.
"Yeh ladki hamesha haste haste ghar se nikalti hai," Shalini said fondly.
"And sabko hansa ke waapas aati hai," Arvind added with a smile.
------------------------------------------------
The WhatsApp Group Antics
By the end of the day, the "Xavier's Talent Parade 2024" WhatsApp group was in full swing. The participants were animatedly discussing ideas.
Kabir: "Bhaiyon aur behnon, ek suggestion hai. Flash mob karte hain canteen mein."
Meera: "Idea achha hai. Par Captain Kapoor ko dance mein manane ke liye alag strategy chahiye."
Priyanka: "Aarav is busy. Let's focus on realistic ideas."
Riya: "Realistic ideas? Priyanka, kabhi fun kiya hai?"
Meera laughed out loud. She privately messaged Riya.
Meera: "Priyanka ki 'focus on Aarav' strategy toh clear hai."
Riya: "Clear? Humein toh laser-sharp lagti hai."
Meanwhile, Meera couldn't resist messaging Aarav again.
Meera: "Aapne notice kiya? Group mein sab aapko center of attention bana rahe hain."
Aarav: "Main ignore kar raha hoon."
Meera: "Ignoring isn't working, Captain Serious."
Aarav sighed. "Yeh Sharma mujhe shaanti se rehne nahi degi," he muttered under his breath.
-------------------------------------------------
The Football Field Meeting
Later that evening, Aarav and Kabir stayed back for extra football practice. Kabir couldn't stop teasing Aarav about Meera.
"Kya scene hai?" Kabir asked, juggling the ball. "Tujhe Sharma ka attention pasand aa raha hai na?"
"Focus on the game," Aarav said, kicking the ball hard.
As practice wrapped up, Aarav spotted Meera waiting near the gate, chatting with Aman and Riya. She enthusiastically waved when she saw him. Aarav pretended not to notice, but Kabir nudged him.
"Sharma toh tujhe drop karne bhi aa gayi," Kabir teased.
"Enough tu muh band rkha kar," Aarav said, though he couldn't entirely suppress his smile.
--------------------------------------------------
Meera's Evening Plotting
At home, Meera sat on her bed, scrolling through Aarav's Instagram.
Aarav's Instagram
Aarav's Instagram was a sparse profile-just three posts:
1. A picture of his football trophy.
2. A scenic sunset he'd clicked on a family vacation.
3. A group photo from last year's academic awards ceremony.
His profile bio read: "Focused on the goal."
He rarely posted stories but occasionally checked his DMs. Most were unread, though Priyanka's regular messages-filled with emojis and praise-remained unanswered.
She zoomed in on the group photo from last year's awards ceremony.
"Captain Serious bhi kitne serious lagte hai," she muttered.
Riya, who was on a video call with her, laughed. "Aur tu kab se stalker ban gayi hai."
"Stalker nahi, investigator," Meera corrected. "Mujhe lagta hai Captain Kapoor ke andar ek funny insaan chhupa hai. Bas usse bahar lana hai."
"Aur Priyanka Verma ko tackle karna hai," Riya added.
"Woh toh warm-up hai," Meera replied confidently.
