Rose's POV
Luke and Nimueh were hugging and saying goodbye to each other.
"I will visit, I promise"- Nimueh said. Luke just nodded.
"Come on, we have to go"- I said.
"Why can't I come with you?"- Luke asked.
"It's dangerous, Luke"- Layla said.
"Then you'll need help; I can help"- he insisted.
"Luke"- I just said and gave him the look. He lowered his head and sighed in defeat.
Nimueh gave him one last hug and we left the house. She was wearing Luke's clothes and baseball cap that was covering her eyes. Her hair was gathered in it and it couldn't be seen.
I took her hand and Layla was walking in front of her trying to hide her a bit more. We were walking by some people on the street. They didn't even spare us second glance. I smiled at how easy it went.
Maybe a bit too easy, my inner voice warned me. I shook that thought away.
After the fiasco in the morning, Adrian, Kayden, Layla and I came up with a plan. We told them about the hole in the wall. They seemed surprised and in the same time relieved about that.
We decided that we will bring Nimueh to the hole and they will wait for us there.
We casually walked beside a group of children playing in mud and just when we were going to enter the woods we heard the voice yelling behind us.
At first we started walking a little faster in hope they weren't talking to us, but then we heard their heavy footsteps following us.
"Why can't anything go according to our plan"- Layla said annoyed as we started to run.
The man behind us yelled stop, uttered some pretty nasty curses and then started running after us.
"Agh...Rose... we have a problem"- Layla said as she jumped over fallen tree.
"I know"- I just said quickly glanced back. I wasn't a runner so I was in no shape to run, but regardless of that I continued trying not to think of pain in muscles.
We were getting closer to the wall and I almost felt like we succeeded when Nimueh tripped and fell.
She hissed in pain. I kneeled near her and quickly examined it. Her leg was swollen.
"Rose hurry up, that guy will catch us"- Layla said.
"Can you walk?"- I asked Nimueh trying not to panic.
"I don't think so"- she said sadly. I bit my lip. What should I do?
"Here they are!"- the man yelled to his friend I guess.
I stood up and took Nimueh in my hands. Layla gave me skeptical look and we started running once again.
"Stop or I will shoot you!"- the man yelled.
Layla looked at me and I shook my head. She nodded and we continued. I heard gun shots echoing from behind and hitting a tree nearby. My heart started bumping wildly. They weren't kidding.
"Just few more minutes and we're there"- I tried to reassure Nimueh as she hugged me tighter shaking in fear.
I saw a hole in the distance and smiled in relief. My legs were hurting, but I was still running as fast as I possibly could, trying to dodge trees and their roots. If I fall, I'm certainly dead.
Just a bit more.
As we were coming closer I could see two men standing there. We're safe, finally. I ran faster and suddenly stopped when I saw their faces.
Horror filled me. I bit my lip realizing I was mistaken.
In front of me stood two men I have never seen. They were tall and muscular. One of them was bald and other had a lot of tattoos. They had evil smiles on their faces that looked more like ugly grimaces of serial killers. They gave us dirty looks that sent chills down my spine â not the good kind.
I turned around to see other two men similar to them approaching us.
Layla turned to left and I to the right. On both sides men were looking at us.
"Where the hell did so many rapist-looking assholes came from?"-Layla asked quietly so only I could hear her.
I looked around and saw that there were about eight grown, muscular, bloodthirsty men around us.
We were trapped.
"Look what we have here"- one of them said.
"You actually thought you could run away"- said the other.
"And protect that beast"- the bald one said referring to Nimueh. She winced and buried her head in my hair.
"Hand her over and we'll try to make your death quick and painless"- another one of them said smiling wickedly. I squeezed her closer and looked around one more time trying to find escape route. Sadly we had no way out of that circle.
"That is a kind offer", I suddenly heard familiar voice coming from somewhere, "You won't be getting one"
I knew that voice, I just couldn't remember from where.
Men started turning around trying to figure out where does the voice coming from.
"Show yourself!"- the bald one yelled. He wasn't so playful anymore.
Deep chuckle filled the air.
Men took their weapons out and pointed it in different directions including towards us.
"It's that beast!"- tattooed on yelled and charged his weapon ready to shoot Nimueh and me. I closed my eyes and hugged Nimueh so tight she couldn't breathe.
I heard whispering and someone very fast, so fast I couldn't see him ran by me.
Tattooed man screamed and fell on his knees. We heard a disgusting crack a minute before his head flew away from his body.
Everyone including me gasped. What the bloody hell just happened?
"Run"- deep voice commanded. This time I knew exactly who it was.
It was Adrian. First one was probably Kayden. My brain finally decided to work and everything was much clearer.
I sighed in relief and turned to Layla. She looked shocked. I tugged her hand and tried to escape from them.
"Make another move and I will shoot you and that beast!"- the bald one screamed appearing out of nowhere.
I immediately stopped and looked at the pissed man in front of me. He held scary-looking gun and it was pointed at me.
"Now command the other beast to show itself"- he said.
"I can't"- I croaked.
"Oh really?"- he asked and raised his big eyebrows. He turned the gun and pointed it at Layla.
"You still can't?"- he asked me as prepared the gun for shooting.
"No, stop...please"- I pleaded and he laughed with no humor.
A murderous glow filled his eyes and just when he wanted to pull the trigger Kayden appeared in front of Layla with a smirk on her face. His eyes were glowing even more than usual.
Men gasped once again but they quickly recovered and directed their weapons at him. Kayden didn't look scared, on contrary he seemed amused.
Suddenly strong arms grabbed me and Nimueh. I tried to fight but his gasp never loosened as he dragged me away.
"Rose, stop it"- he said to my ear and I immediately listened recognizing the voice. Adrian.
After a moment I could feel the tingling. He embraced me and ran in that super-human speed taking us far away from the danger.
"What about Layla?"- I asked him and he released me.
I turned to him with worried look. Kayden and Layla were far behind us and we couldn't even see them. We were only able to hear deep screams.
"Kayden will take care of it"- he just said and Nimueh instantly turned his way. Smile appeared on her face and she stopped shaking.
"Brother!"- she screamed excited. She let go of me and Adrian took her in his hands. She hugged him tightly and he smiled.
Wait....brother?
"Are you okay baby girl?"- he asked her in soft voice.
"Yeah...Where is uncle Kayden?"
"He stayed to help Layla", I said to her and then I looked at Adrian, "You're her brother?"
"You didn't know?", he asked confused, "Why did you turn to me then?"
I looked at the ground not knowing what to say. After few moments I looked up and saw he was still looking at me expecting answer.
"I don't know; guess that you can say that you were my only option"- I said and looked away from his eyes blushing.
He smiled. I was beginning to think that he liked my discomfort.
"You won't do this again, promise me"- Adrian said to Nimueh who was cuddled in his arms.
"I can't do that"- she just said not looking at him and closing her eyes. Adrian was confused so he looked at me for explanation. I smiled at him and shrugged.
