Kayden's POV
The redhead fell on the ground with a loud thud and hit the wall as she rolled away. Blood kept seeping from her nose and cut on her lip. That red liquid, so incredibly similar to human fluid of life, made her hair stick to her face in very unattractive way. I noticed that some of it was on my gray jeans.
Great, now they are ruined. I sighed at that thought.
I walked slowly towards her rubbing my knuckles. Her glowing brown eyes radiated with fear. That was more than expected after more than an hour with me. Actually I was impressed that she withstood that much. She was one of the tough ones.
"Get up, Trix", I said gently.
She shivered and tried to move as far away from me as it was possible. I clenched my jaw and felt my eyes glowing harder.
"Get up!" I yelled and she closed her eyes and put her hands over her head.
I took a few big steps and raised her by her throat. She squirmed and started wildly swinging with her legs through the air. Her bloody hands scratched my arm trying to break her throat loose from my grip.
"Open your eyes", I whispered as I pinned her on the wall. She was gasping for air and trying weakly move my hand in the same time. Despite that she listened to me and opened her eyes. I stared at them for a moment and slowly tilted my head.
"Where's your boss?" I asked while I eased up my grip. She started to turn purple and I definitely couldn't let her be suffocated without giving me required information.
She coughed and I removed my hand completely from her bruised neck. As she tried to catch a breath, I crossed my arms on my chest. She looked up with red but determined eyes.
"What if I don't tell you?" she asked with her croak voice looking bravely in my eyes. I smiled.
"I'll kill you"
She gulped and took a deep breath.
"You can't do that", she shook her head, "you would fell out of King's good grace"
I smiled and took a step towards her. She started shaking while looking at me with widened brown eyes, but she stayed on her spot. I reached and removed the lock of her blood-red hair from her face. She couldn't help herself not to yelp quietly. I shushed her and looked at her gently. She looked like a beaten up puppy.
I leaned in and she stiffened.
"I can do whatever I want, Trixy"
She shivered and looked away. I could see she was thinking fast, trying to find another way out â she was a warrior puppy in the end; I wouldn't expect any less than that. A moment later, her gaze focused on the ground as she exhaled.
"Then get over with this already, I'm not telling you a thing", she said fiercely.
"Are you sure you want to die for such an insignificant piece of information?"
She took a few deep breaths.
"I will be killed anyways", she said, "It's better to die for a cause than like a traitor...so do it"
I laughed viciously and her breathing accelerated. She was so confident in the beginning, but now she learned the hard way that sometimes rumors are true. I am essentially noting more than very rebellious and very strong-headed psychopath.
"Oh, you poor, poor little creature" I said as I pulled her by the hair roughly. She whimpered and fell on her knees.
"If you are to be killed by me", I said in deep voice, "your death shall be legendary"
She screamed and tried to move away.
I raised my hand and slapped her. She flew across the room and hit the already broken desk. The whole room was a mess.
I speeded towards her and stepped on her leg. Disgusting crack could be heard as her bone got smashed into pieces. She let out an ear-piercing scream.
"Are you still sure you won't tell me anything?" I asked one last time as her eyes found mine that were now almost white from the light that radiated out of them.
* * *
Half an hour later I was standing in my bathroom - miles away from broken corpse who looked at me with brown eyes deprived of their Ultrrian glow. Warm water slowly glided down my body taking away any sign of blood, but it couldn't erase it from my memory. The smell of death was stuck in my nose.
I opened my eyes. Drop of water was swinging on the end of my eyelashes. In a quick second a saw the world upside down through it. A moment later it fell down. Now, it's just like every drop of water â nothing special about it.
Sound of steps broke the bliss of equable drops hitting my body and the floor, before my main door opened with a slight squeaking. I thought I fixed it - obviously not. I will most definitely take care of that later.
"Kayden, get out", Adrian said as I heard him sit down. I smirked and turned off the water.
"You know", I said as I took the white towel and wrapped it loosely around my waist, "us girls don't like to be disturbed while we take care of our business"
I opened the door and walked out leaving the wet trail behind me. I saw him giving me a glare which I decided to ignore. I put my hands on my hips and looked at him seductively.
"So you want to do this here or in my bedroom?" I asked and he raised an eyebrow.
"Sometimes I feel like you're still six", he said and got up. He took some papers from sofa and threw them on me. "I found this in my brother's safe"
I looked down and frowned as I read the content. There were much unneeded warnings, but it was obvious that the papers were a very detailed contract for purchase of dangerous chemicals.
"Either he wants to make super-awesome fireworks or he'd bought it to blow up a school"
Adrian sighed and leaned against the wall. He massaged his temples as he tried to think of some excuse for Kael.
"Are you sure those are the only two options?" he asked finally.
I paused for a moment and read the list once again. Chemicals had only one thing in common and that is the loud bang.
"Maybe he wanted to donate it to the school?" I could hear the desperate hope in Adrian's voice. I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah or maybe he just bought a large amount of TNT to generate for fun"
He frowned at me and I shrugged. We stood in silence.
"Do you understand what this means?" I asked as I lifted papers and shook them slightly, "He tried to assassinate your girlfriend..."
He nodded so I proceeded.
"...slay your bae, execute your beloved, murder your lass"
"Okay I got it"
"...massacre your sweetheart, exterminate your companion, obliterate your partner"
"Seriously, dude"
"...AND most importantly", I said and put my index finger up, "put your baby to death so what can we conclude from all this information?"
"Enlighten me", he said as he rolled his eyes and crossed his arms on his chest.
"That, my friend", I said and smiled, "means he tried to kill Rose"
He gave me his best bored look and matching sigh.
"And also that he could've found out about the two of you seeing each other", I added.
He looked down thinking so I turned around and left the living room. I heard him coming after me as I opened the door of my bedroom.
"You think he would do that?" Adrian asked and I took off the towel throwing it on my bed.
"Do you remember how you felt about those murderers before you got involved with that short nuisance?"
I put on a pair of black boxers and look at him leaning to the door frame frowning.
"Kael was never so angry", he said and I puffed as I jumped into a black ripped jeans â that stupid tight little shit, "and besides he would never risk hurting me"
I put on black v-neck t-shirt and grabbed navy plaid long sleeve shirt.
"Are you sure?"
"Do you know something I don't?" he retorted. I'm definitely not going to button up that shirt.
"I spoke to an interesting redhead this morning", I walked by him to the kitchen and filled the glass with water spilling the significant amount of it by the glass. I growled and turned around a few times trying to find a dishtowel.
"I assume we won't be seeing her any time soon", Adrian said and tossed the red dishtowel in my hands, "What did she say?"
I threw the towel on little puddle and drank the water.
"She wasn't very talkative", I took another sip, "but she did say a few things"
Forgetting about brittleness of glass, I threw it in the sink. The cracking sound filled my ears and I wrinkled my nose.
"Motherf*cker", I mumbled and looked in the sink seeing shreds of glass all over it, "Shit"
"What things?" Adrian questioned as I battled with broken glass that cut my hands mercilessly.
"She works for someone on the top and she obviously fears them more than me", I said and cursed as the blood started seeping through one of the cuts on my thumb. I put it in my mouth and continued: "She took the chemicals and just forwarded it to someone with more access"
I let the water take smaller pieces away, wiped my hands with wet dishtowel and put it back where it was. It is already red anyway.
"Trix was just a pawn, she knew nothing, but she was incredibly dedicated and/or afraid of the cause. I did get a few names, though"
Adrian was either frowning all the time or it was just his face. I couldn't tell.
"So, Ultrrians did it", he said finally.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure"
I leaned to the table and mimicked his pose. Maybe I should learn how to cook.
"Then I need to talk to Rose... right now"
Of course he does.
