Chapter 103 of 125

Worthwhile

[ p o e t r y 2]184 words~1 min read

The idea

Of something not being worth investing in

Unless it is long term

Is just mental.

My roommate doesn't want to replace

Our water pitcher filter

Because we graduate in a month and a half.

So we're going to drink water

That tastes faintly like

Spoiled Brussel sprouts

For the next month and a half

Because the pitcher won't be used

After that.

But if you think about it,

That concept

That things aren't worth doing

Unless they're worth doing forever

Is so ridiculous.

No athlete can be in their prime

For longer than 10 years.

And no human relationship

In life is permanent.

Our parents die before we do

Our siblings come along before or after us

Our children well after

And our spouses later too

No one is always around

And no one is ever permanent.

Yet sports are worth playing

Even if only for a season.

People are worth investing in

Even if they're not best friends for life.

And water filters are worth replacing

Because it's worthwhile to

Have good things

Even if those things can't last forever
