Twenty Years From Now

And maybe one day

I won't be 22.

Maybe one day

We won't live down the street.

Maybe we'll be grown.

Maybe I'll be married

And you'll have three more children

Maybe we will have lived out

Our twenties

And then our thirties

And now be in our fourties.

Maybe the child in your womb

Will be as we are now-

Young, confused, lost, and found.

No idea what her future will look like

And a little hopeful

Yet hopelessly scared.

Maybe one day

We'll be 42,

Your daughter will be grown;

And we'll still be friends.

Then we can look back

On our twenties

As we look back

On our childhood now,

And see what was happening

All along.
