Chapter 40 of 125

Birkenau

[ p o e t r y 2]79 words~1 min read

Today, cars drive

Past Birkenau.

As you look past the barracks,

You can see cars cruising by.

Tourist walk

Vandals graffiti in the barracks

People talk

Cars drive by

Many of the buildings no longer stand.

The gas chambers have been blown apart

The ashes

Are no longer visible in the pond,

And cars drive by.

How eerily awful it is

That the world seems to move on

And the voices of the dead

Lay silent and silenced.
