Chapter 76 of 125

Repetition of Goodbyes.

[ p o e t r y 2]142 words~1 min read

I think grief

Forever long

Repetition of goodbyes.

I was 21, stroking the cold, dead forehead

Of my grandfather,

Sobbing goodbye.

And then I was 21, burying his ashes.

But one day, I'll be 35,

And I'll inevitably break the spatula

He gave me before he passed

And then, I'll be 21 again,

Saying goodbye.

One day, I'll be 37,

With young children

Rushing recklessly

Around the house.

One won't stop in time,

And he, or she, will tip my blue teacup

And it will shatter.

Then, I'll be 21 again,

Saying goodbye.

One day, when I'm closer to 50,

My dad will pass,

And then I'll be 21 and 50,

Burying my father,

My grandfather,

And my grief.

There's a song,

That goes,

"I think I'll love you forever."

& I echo those words,

I think I'll loose you forever.
