Ray opened the entrance from the sewers onto the streets, all four of them covered in slime head to toe.
"Nice going Ray. What're you trying to do, drown me?" Winston said.
"Oh yeah, Zeddermore! Like it was my fault! But you were too stupid not to drop that plumb line!!" Ray shouted at Winston.
"Stupid? You better watch your mouth or I'll punch your lights out!!" Winston shouted back.
Silvia audibly gasped for air as she and Egon climbed out of the sewers together. "All those kinetic tests? For what?! For us to end up slimed in a river!!" Silvia said.
"Hey, those tests weren't stupid! They helped us out a lot!" Egon shouted.
"Oh really? While I stand on the sidelines watching you do your little eighth-grade science experiments?! I have no idea what the hell you're doing half the time, and all I want to do is help, but nooo! Because little brainiac must have his own space to work, Mr. Independent!!" Silvia shouted.
"Well excuse me for caring about you!! I do those experiments by myself first so that way you don't end up hurt!" Egon shouted back. "Wait, wait, stop-!" Before poor Egon could even finish his sentence, Silvia punched him in the nose. Silvia thought for a moment, then realized. It's the slime-
"Everybody take off your clothes, quick! It's the slime that's making us go berserk!" Silvia shouted. Everyone had pajamas on underneath their outfits because of how cold it was, so they got lucky. "Oh shit!! Egon, my love I'm so sorry!"
"It's not your fault, I'm okay," Egon said as he pinched the bridge of his nose. Silvia was quick to find a Hot Dog stand; she stole some napkins, quickly wiping the blood off his face.
"Oh dear, Ray. What're we doin'? I was ready to kill you." Winston said.
"It's the stuff. It's like pure, concentrated evil!" Ray said.
"And it's all flowing right to this spot," Silvia said.
"Holy shit, what did you do Silvia? Why is there blood on your hands??" Ray asked.
"Because the slime made us argue and I sort of...kind of.. punched him in the face.." Silvia looked down at the ground in shame.
"Well, you were right. I always leave you in the dark when it comes to my experiments, and I'm sorry." Egon said as he hugged Silvia close to his chest.
"So you're admitting I'm right?" Silvia smiled smugly.
"Yes, I am," Egon said.
"This is very cute and all, but we need to go and tell Peter this news," Winston said.
"Right," Silvia said as they all ran to the restaurant where Dana and Peter were eating peacefully. Not for very long, anyway.
ââââ
"Are you sure this is it?" Winston asked.
"Yeah, he said Arnold's restaurant," Ray answered.
"Excuse me-" A man said to them as he gave all four of them weird looks.
"Sorry, we're with a friend of ours," Egon said. Silvia looked around the restaurant for Peter and Dana.
"Venkman!" Ray shouted as he pointed to him. "It's absolutely incredible! The greatest tangible evidence of psychic energy.." Ray's voice trailed off as everyone was shouting and yelling at Peter at the same time.
"Boys and girls, you're scaring the straights, okay?! Is there any way we can do this tomorrow?!" Peter asked.
"No, no! This won't wait until tomorrow, Venkman. It's hot, and it's ready to pop!" Egon shouted.
"Yeah, it's all over the city, Pete. Under it actually." Ray said.
"Rivers of the stuff." Winston chimed in.
"And it's all flowing right to the museum," Egon stated.
"Yeah, the museum!" Silvia repeated frantically as she pointed in the direction of the museum, which sent some of the slime flying at some poor, unsuspecting lady. "Sorry.."
"You mean my museum?" Dana asked.
"I was going to tell you between dessert and the cheese course," Peter said. "You can never go back there again, you'll have to find a new job."
The cops appeared (again) and dragged all four of them out and shoved them into a police car, leaving Peter and Dana dumbfounded. The police car drove off and went straight to City Hall. Once they got there, the four of them (and Peter, who willingly came along) stepped out of the car. They waited in the mayor's office until he arrived.
"Lenny, big man!" Peter said, Silvia rolled her eyes. Winston stuck out his hand for the mayor to shake, but Lenny didn't take up the offer.
"What is this? A slumber party? You've got two minutes, make it good." Lenny said as he sat down in his chair.
"First of all Mr. Mayor it's a great pleasure to see you again. We'd just like to say that almost fifty percent of us voted for you in the last election." Ray said.
"I appreciate that," Lenny said.
"I'm sure you do." Silvia scoffed under her breath.
"I'm just sorry we have to always meet under these circumstances," Peter said.
"Mr. Mayor, we are here tonight because a psycho-magnatheric slime flow of immense proportions is building up beneath this city," Ray explained.
"Psycho-what?" The mayor asked.
"Psycho-magnatheric. Negative human emotions are materializing in the form of a viscous, psycho-reactive plasm with explosive supernormal potential." Egon elaborated further.
"Does anybody speak English here?" The mayor asked.
"It's okay, it's not your fault he didn't learn proper English in elementary school," Silvia whispered in Egons ear, which made him laugh a bit.
"See, what we're trying to tell you is all the bad feelings. I mean all the hate, the anger, and violence in this city is turning into this sludge. I didn't believe it at first either. But we just went for a swim in it, and we ended up almost killing each other!" Winston said.
"I even bloodied his nose over it! I didn't even mean to!" Silvia said, pointing to Egon.
"This is insane! Do we really have to listen to this?" The mayor's assistant asked.
"Can't you stop your lips from flapping for two little minutes??" Peter said. "Lenny, have you been out on the street lately? Do you know how weird it is out there? We've taken our own headcount. There seem to be three million completely miserable assholes living in the tri-state area!"
"Oh, please." The mayor's assistant scoffs.
"I beg your pardon, three million and one," Peter says, looking at the man.
"What fudgy brain here doesn't realize is that if we don't do something fast, this whole place is gonna blow like a frog on a hot plate!" Ray said.
"What am I supposed to do? Go on television and tell ten million people they have to be nice to each other?" The Mayor said. "Being miserable and treating other people like dirt is every New Yorker's God-given right! Your two minutes are up, goodnight everyone."
"You're making a big mistake, Mr. Mayor!" Ray shouted as he ran after him, the others following close behind.
"You know The Times is gonna be interested in this, and you know the Post," Peter said.
"Time Square Slime," Winston said, the others coming up with headlines.
"Slime Square," Egon said, smiling proudly.
"Slime Square, perfect!" Ray said.
"Now before you go running off to the newspapers with this, would you consider telling this slime business to some of our people downtown?" The mayor's assistant asked the five of them. Stupidly, they all agreed to go.
