Chapter 230

“Can you stop holding on to me? This is so embarrassing,” Noah complained as he tried to pull his arm

out of Dylan’s tight grip. But the latter refused to let go, instead pleading, “No way! The crazy woman is

still here. I’m scared.” He looked at Elise with a fearful expression as he spoke.

“Why did you agree to come here if you are so afraid?” Noah hissed. He shoved his friend aside to get

a better view of the situation. Unfortunately, the market was buzzing with crowds. The noise made it

hard for him to eavesdrop on Madeline and Elise’s conversation. As a result, he was even more

annoyed at Dylan’s cowardice.

“Well…” The man was stumped by the sudden questioning and tried to change the topic. “I… I saw that

Maddie was angry. As her friend, shouldn’t I show her some concern? You must apologize to Maddie

later on, okay?”

Noah was not in the mood to consider the reason for Dylan’s appearance. He was still angry that

Madeline had accepted Dylan’s Instagram follower request. Frustrated, he looked at his phone and

pressed the submit request button again. From his viewing point, Noah could hear the woman getting a

notification request. Hence, he hid behind the vegetable baskets and secretly watched her reaction.

Alas, Madeline peered at her phone and disregarded the Instagram request.

What’s wrong with her? Didn’t she see my friend request? Did she ignore me on purpose? Noah fumed

inwardly. Unwilling to accept his defeat, he hit the request button once more. His face darkened when

he noticed Madeline did not check her phone despite the clear notification bell.

“What are you doing, Noah? Did you hear what they were saying? They have almost finished eating

the two plates of crayfish! It looks so delicious. If only I could have a bite…” Dylan lamented.

“Stop fooling around. I’ll buy you some later,” Noah said in a perfunctory tone as his eyes remained

glued on the phone screen.

When the owner of the vegetable store returned from the restroom, he found two men lurking in his

store, staring at the two ladies who were feasting on the crayfish. “What are you two doing? Are you

spying on the ladies in broad daylight? What nerves!” he chastised.

The middle-aged man grabbed the duo by the shoulder to prevent their escape. Dylan reminded Noah

just as he was about to criticize the man for the physical intrusion, “Cool down! Maddie is still there!” He

then turned to the store owner and said in a hushed tone, “This is just a misunderstanding. We aren’t

bad guys. The pretty lady over there is his wife. They are arguing so…”

Unfortunately, the man did not believe their words. “Hah! Well-dressed people nowadays are more

likely to act brazenly.”

“That’s untrue! You should not make such accusatory remarks!” Dylan retorted as he could not tolerate

the injustice.

Noah’s expression darkened as he shouted with an irrefutable tone, “Let go!”

The owner hissed, “Are you finally showing your true colors? Don’t blame me for exposing your

heinous acts!”

“What do you want?” Noah looked at the man with a dangerous gaze. What transpired, however, was

beyond his expectations.

The owner dragged them in front of Madeline and Elise and said, “Hi, ladies. Do you know these two

men?”

An awkward silence filled the air. Noah’s face remained stoic, but panic filled his eyes. Oh, no! What

should I do now that Madeline has caught me spying on her?

“What a coincidence, Maddie! Haha… haha…” Dylan avoided establishing eye contact with Elise and

instead decided to greet the kinder and more understanding Madeline. Furthermore, Noah was the one

thought to have cheated on his wife, so he had no reason to be on her bad side. Sadly, things did not

work out the way Dylan had hoped.

Elise stood up and glared at the man as she shrieked, “Dylan Felch! How dare you stalk us!”

Meanwhile, Noah was enraged when he noticed Madeline ignoring him. He deliberated for a long time

before deciding to take a softer approach. “I sent you an Instagram friend request, my dearest wife.

Please remember to accept it.” He did not plan on making excuses since they were caught red-handed

by the store owner. In any case, the “victim” was his wife.

Madeline did not react, instead switching her phone to do not disturb mode.

“Are you all acquainted?” the middle-aged man asked in puzzlement. Based on their interactions, it did

not seem like they were strangers.

Dylan pulled the man back to his vegetable stall as he urged, “Didn’t I tell you that the couple over here

are arguing? I suggest that you don’t interfere with their personal matters.”

“I have no idea what today’s youth think. Why can’t you just speak it out rather than stalk each other? I

assumed you were both up to no good!” the man bemoaned.

“I’m sorry for causing so much trouble. This is all our fault. We shan’t disturb you any further.” Dylan

immediately ran away from the vegetable stall after appeasing the man. He then pulled Noah and

shamelessly joined the ladies at the table.

“The crayfish looks delicious! Shall I peel a piece of this delicious seafood for you?” Dylan told Elise,

who was disgusted by his shameless actions.

“Stop this nonsense. There isn’t enough food for the four of us. Let’s go get some more,” the woman

insisted.

“But there’s so much food left! Can I have a bite first?” the man protested.

“No! Don’t you dare!” Elise threatened as she pulled Dylan away.

There were only Noah and Madeline left at the table. He took a crayfish, skinned it, and placed it in her

bowl.

“That was all a misunderstanding with Annalise. Madeline, can you please quit being upset with me?”

Noah pleaded.

“You’ve misunderstood, Mr. Quincy. We aren’t even together. Why should I be angry with you?” She

avoided eye contact and refused to eat the peeled crayfish.

“We were still sharing the same bed this morning, my dearest wife. Have you forgotten about it so

soon?” Noah protested pitifully as he looked at Madeline incredulously.

Madeline shrieked, “What the hell are you talking about, Noah Quincy! Why are you so shameless?”

“I’m speaking the truth! Not only did you sleep on my bed, but you also wore my clothes too! How could

you believe the woman’s words so easily? You’ve even changed the house’s passcode. I’m innocent!”

Noah lamented. He had finally found a way to get Madeline’s attention. Hence, he tugged the woman’s

sleeve and tried his best to act pitifully.
