The first thing Harvey did after waking up this morning was storming off to the Surgery wards again, and this time- he wasn't going to return without meeting Michael.
"Room number fifty seven, Michael Fletcher." The dorm warden's fat jiggly belly, which outstretched the buttons on his shirt, didn't scare Harvey this time.
Of course, the warden give him the number with ease and Harvey stomped off, slamming the door open once he reached the room.
There the culprit sat on his bed, eating noodles with chopsticks and chatting away to some Chinese man.
"Michael you vile pestâ " Harvey stopped when his eyes fell on the portrait directly above Michal's bed, which was none other than the beautiful Drusilla smiling in the picture.
"Harvey! You didn't say you were coming!" Michael stood up, carefully setting aside his fine china bowl on the bedside table. "I'd have gone to look out for you- pardon me it's messy in here,"
Indeed, it was messy. Why should it not be messy, Michael was a careless man even before he went to the University, book and papers and parchment strewn in every nook and cranny of the roomâ looked like a pigsty.
Wonder what my sister saw in him.
"Say your greetings to Yoo Jeong, Jeong this is Harvey, my fiancé's brother." Michael patted Harvey's back.
Michael was shorter than Harvey, not that short, but still considerable shorter. And Harvey didn't like to be patted.
"Ah... Drusilla's brother?" Jeong's face brightened. "He said something about you."
"Cut the chase Fletcher, I know you've been an infidel to my sister. I'm here to break off your engagement."
"I- I'm not sure I un-understand you... pardon," Michael furrowed his brows.
"The letter- why does Agathe Summers receive the same one? That one, yes also signed by you? You've been seeing the Mayor's daughter, haven't you?" Harvey heaved, voice raising up by decibels in the small room.
"Christ, Harvey! Who is Agaâ whatever? I've never even heard of this person!" Michael yelled in response.
"Oh do fear the Lord, Michael. Stop lying at once, my sister and the Mayor's daughter have the same jewellery they recieved, same letter- even if you had to be an infidel, were you a buffoon? Couldn't you even change the words?!"
Michael stared at Harvey, taking in all of Harvey's outburst calmly, before opening his mouth. "By the jewellery, do you mean this?" He rummaged his drawers for a picture, before ultimately managing to find a half torn parchment.
Harvey squinted- this was the exact same design of the anklets that his sister wore.
"Five of us had this same one made- the jeweller gives us discounts if we order in bulk. I was short in funds I apologise, else I'd have had it made in gold too." Michael pointed out, scratching the back of his head.
"What?"
"And about whatever you are talking, I've loved only one lady my whole life. I'd die even before thinkingâ "
"Your handwriting," Harvey interrupted. "It's not the same as the letterâ " he pointed out Michael's open journal kept on the table. Deftly, Michael closed it.
"What do you mean?"
"There was no way a surgeon could have that beautiful a penmanship... you never wrote any letter you sent to my sister, did you?" Harvey moved closer, threatening a man five years his senior effectively.
Michael gulped.
"No- no... that'sâ "
Suddenly, Jeong, the person who had no presence till now, started laughing loudly. "That'd be Ansel!"
"Ansel? What is Ansel?" Harvey let go of his brother in law's collar, stalking over to the oriental man. "And what do you know?"
"Ansel Dawson. Lives inside the library. He writes all that, in Michael's name." Jeong looked at Harvey mischievously, his monolidded eyes full of his boyish charm.
Michael coughed loudly, when Harvey glared at him.
"How does this Angel or whoever know of my sister, or may I ask, how much does he know of my sister?"
Michael smiled nervously in response, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Harvey... dear, why don't we sit down and chat?"
