THE SOUL OF WANG MEI <<

From Chaos to Canvas279 words~2 min read

Wang Mei's life was a paradox. On the surface, she was a brilliant student, consistently acing her exams and impressing her teachers with her insightful questions. But beneath the veneer of academic excellence, Mei's life was a mess.

She lived with her granny who lives next to her house in Dunhuang, a city famous for its ancient Buddhist caves and stunning natural beauty. Mei's parents, both doctors, are rich, lived in Nanjing, a thousand miles away. They were rarely present in Mei's life, too busy saving lives to attend school events or parent-teacher conferences. Mei's granny, Nai Nai, did her best to fill the void, but Mei couldn't shake off the feeling of abandonment.

Mei's room was a reflection of her chaotic life, but also her passion for learning. Books and papers littered the floor, alongside discarded snack packets and broken stationery. Her desk was a mess of scribbled notes, torn pages, and forgotten assignments.

However, amidst the chaos, Mei's love for science shone through. Her room was filled with books on space and astronomy, models of rockets and planets, and a large picture of the Milky Way hung above her bed. A collection of glow-in-the-dark star stickers twinkled on her ceiling, and a telescope stood proudly in the corner, a gift from her parents that she treasured dearly.

Despite her academic prowess, Mei struggled with everyday tasks. She forgot to turn in homework, misplaced her phone, and stumbled over her own feet. Her classmates teased her good-naturedly, calling her "Professor Klutz."

Mei laughed along with them, but deep down, she felt a pang of sadness. Why couldn't she be more like her parents - successful, confident, and put-together?
