AFTER LUNCH BREAK ~
As we walked to class after lunch, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and nervousness. The class was for our club activities, and I was eager to see how our Science Club would shape up.
As we entered the classroom, Mrs. Chen, our class teacher and Science Club moderator, greeted us with a warm smile. "Alright, everyone, please take your seats with your respective groups," she announced.
I scanned the room, looking for my group, and was thrilled to see my best friend Bao already seated at the Science Club table. I rushed over to join her, and we exchanged a excited whisper. "I'm so glad we're in the same group!" Bao squealed.
I grinned, feeling a sense of relief. "Me too! What's your project about?" Bao's eyes sparkled. "I'm working with Lego robotics! It's going to be so much fun!" I nodded enthusiastically, just as Mrs. Chen began to explain the project guidelines.
As we listened, I noticed Bao staring intently at Zhiyu, who was seated across from us. I nudged her discreetly. "Hey, Bao, don't stare at him," I whispered. Bao blinked, looking sheepish. "Sorry, Mei! I just can't help it. He's so... interesting."
I rolled my eyes good-naturedly. "Just focus on your project, okay?" Bao grinned mischievously. "Okay, okay. But I'm still going to keep an eye on him."
"As you all know, we've already discussed our project topics in our chat group," Mrs. Chen began. "But since Bao was absent for a few days, I'd like to take a moment to discuss her project with the group."
Bao smiled, looking excited. "Thanks, Mrs. Chen! My project is working with Lego Robotics. I'll be designing and building a robot using Lego Mindstorms and programming it to perform various tasks." Mrs. Chen nodded, impressed. "That sounds like a great project, Bao. I'm sure you'll do a wonderful job."
Zhiyu spoke up, his voice confident. "I'm thinking of researching renewable energy sources. I believe it's a crucial topic for our future." I rolled my eyes, feeling a surge of competitiveness. "That's a pretty generic topic, don't you think? I'm researching black holes. It's a much more complex and interesting subject."
He raised an eyebrow. "Oh, really? I think renewable energy is a much more practical and relevant topic. Black holes are just theoretical."
I bristled at his tone. "Theoretical? You have no idea what you're talking about. Black holes are a fundamental aspect of astrophysics."
"I still think renewable energy is a more practical topic," he said, his voice firm. "That's because you don't understand the complexity of black holes," I shot back.
"Hey, that's not fair," Bao intervened, defending him. "Zhiyu's topic is important too. We need to find alternative energy sources for the future."
"I agree with Bao," Wuhao said. "Renewable energy is a crucial topic."
"But black holes are so much more interesting," Lily countered, siding with me.
"I mean, who doesn't want to learn about mysterious voids in space?" "Exactly," I said, grateful for Lily's support. "And it's not just about interest. Black holes have significant implications for our understanding of the universe."
"I think we can all agree that both topics are important," Yang said, trying to mediate.
"But which one is more important?" Zhiyu asked, his eyes locked on mine.
"I think that's subjective," Mrs. Chen intervened. "What's important is that you all choose topics that you're passionate about and work hard on your projects."
Mrs. Chen intervened, her voice calm. "Okay, okay, let's not argue about this. Both topics are interesting and relevant in their own ways. The important thing is to choose a topic that you're passionate about and to work hard on your project."
As the discussion continued, I couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration. Why did Zhiyu always have to argue with me? Why couldn't he just be friendly and agreeable for once?
I glanced over at Bao, who was still defending Zhiyu's topic. I felt a pang of confusion. Why was my best friend defending him? Didn't she know how much Zhiyu annoyed me?
I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. What was going on with me? Why was I letting Zhiyu get under my skin like this?
I took a deep breath and tried to focus on the discussion. But I couldn't help sneaking glances at Zhiyu, wondering why he always had to be so confrontational.
Bao noticed my gaze and raised an eyebrow. "Hey, Mei, what's wrong?" she whispered.
I shook my head, not wanting to discuss it. "Nothing, Bao. Just focus on the discussion."
But Bao's expression told me she knew something was up. And I knew she'd be grilling me about it later.
Mrs chen, smiling at the group. "As I mentioned earlier, our project submissions will be in three weeks. This week, we'll be learning about different science projects and getting started on our research. And to make things more exciting, we'll be having a Science Club trip soon!"
The group cheered, and I felt a surge of excitement. This was going to be a great semester.
Mrs. Chen continued, her expression serious. "Also, remember that our school will be having a parents' meeting after three weeks. I expect all of you to keep your grades up and to make sure your projects are of high quality. You'll want to show your parents what you're capable of."
We all nodded, determined in our eyes. We were ready to take on the challenge.
