"I don't know what I would do if something happened to either one of you, I know you're not my children, but I helped raise both of you for a couple years." Elder Virion looked at me sincerely.
"Gramps, don't worry, we've got this." At least I hoped we did. "I appreciate everything that you have done for me and my family."
"Virion, you have done a lot for my family as well." We exchanged smiles, and fell silent, thinking about what to do next.
A thought came to my mind, a dark thought, but it wasn't a thought, it was more of another realization. "Shit!" I exclaimed and stood up from my seat again. "Shit, shit, shit." I started to make my way to the door.
Elder Virion stood up as well, and this time, called out to me. "What's wrong, child?" I stopped and shook my head. "What is it?"
"Shit, it's nothing." I took another step. "I need to check up on something, if you see my family, tell them what's going on, please."
"I will, are you sure everything is fine?"
"Yes." I answered quickly, and began to leave the room, making my way down the hall. I needed to get to the floor below.
I forgot about this, and we were just talking about it too. Cynthia Goodsky dies soon in the novel, like right after Arthur returns, and I freaking forgot. I was so busy in the dungeons and training, all I did for her was help with the symptoms, but she was in a coma again, which meant either the curse was going to activate, or someone was coming to kill her. I never really knew how she ended up with a spike in her.
I found the stairs, and made my way down, I activated "Blood Oath" as I did. The guards I passed didn't seem to be bothered by me, I approached a door, with a guard in front of it. "Is Anna in there?"
"Yes, are you here to help again?" The guard asked me, it's good he remembers who I am.
"Yeah, can I go in?" The guard opened the door for me, and I walked in. "Thanks." Anna was sitting in a chair next to the Director's bed. "Anna, mind if I check in on her?" She was the doctor in charge of taking care of Cynthia Goodsky.
"Virion, it's good to see you." Anna got up from her chair, and I motioned for her to stay sitting.
"It's good to see you too, Anna." I told her as I sat down on the other side of the bed, in a chair facing Cynthia.
"What brings you down here?" She asked as she sat back down in her chair.
"I sensed something coming off of Director Goodsky." I started to manipulate the blood in her body, searching for the curse again. "Mind if I spend some time in here?"
"Of course, go ahead, what did you sense, if you don't mind me asking?" Anna asked me, and I found the curse, then started to manipulate the blood around it.
"All I felt was this dark energy, so I came down to check on it." I lied, needing a reason to be down here. The curse was still stable, it wasn't activated, so I got here in time. If the curse didn't activate tonight, that means some things are changed.
She still had a curse, I've been so lost, I forgot to figure out how to remove it. My blood healing was not working, shit, I needed to figure something else out.
"Is it bad?" Anna asked me, concerned about the Director's safety.
"If what I am thinking is going to happen, yes, yes it's bad." I told her honestly, there was no need to lie, I can make shit up because I am the only one who can sense and manipulate blood. "Don't say anything yet, I might be wrong."
"I hope you are." Anna told me as I figured out what to do. "What are you doing now?" I wanted to tell her to stop talking, but this was her job, to keep her safe.
"I located the curse inside of her body, and I am currently trying to use blood healing to get rid of it." It was not working though, I thought maybe because I was in white core now, things would be different, but they weren't.
"And? I know you have tried it before, and it didn't work."
"It's still not working, but hopefully I'm preventing it from activating." The curse was basically all around her body in certain spots, but there was blood everywhere as well, so I was able to reach each point that it existed. I was using my blood magic in each spot to slow or cure the curse as much as I could, I had to be able to do something.
How could I kill the curse? "Are you sure I shouldn't get Elder Virion? He should be here if something happens."
"Give me like an hour, she should be fine for a while." My memory of this part of the novel is foggy, it's a small detail, when she dies. I think it's in the middle of the night, but I'm not a hundred percent sure.
"Okay, should I leave you alone, and come back? Maybe it will help you." Anna stood up as she looked at me.
"Yes, please, I'll let you know if anything happens." I was still manipulating the blood in her body. "Actually, go get Elder Virion, he might as well be here."
"Alright, I'll go get him." Anna made her way out of the room. I figured Elder Virion might as well be down here, I didn't want to freak him out, but this was the right choice.
Let's see if I can wake her up again, I have to push the blood around in her brain and body to get it going. It won't do anything for the curse, but maybe she knows something about it.
I did what I used to do to get her up, but it wasn't working. Why wasn't it working? I kept on pushing, hoping she would wake up, but it wasn't working.
I stood up, and started to pace in the room, releasing my grip on her blood. There was no need to keep manipulating it, nothing was working, maybe if they know she's going to die, they'll come up with an idea to heal her.
Arthur is probably staring at the oncoming ships right about now, I would of wanted to be there, but I didn't see a way that was possible.
The door swung open, and Elder Virion walked into the room. "What is it, Virion? I've been told you think something is going on with the curse."
He walked over to the other side of the bed. "I felt the curse when we were in the council room, a dark energy started to emit out of her. I guess I was the only one who sensed it." White lies don't hurt people, sometimes.
"I didn't, is she okay?" He asked, holding her hand now. I didn't want to worry him, but there was no other way.
"Yeah, for now." I paused for a second then continued. "I think the curse is going to be activated soon."
"How do you know?" He asked me. "Are you sensing it with your blood magic?"
He came up with the best answer for me, nice. "Yeah, my blood magic picked it up moments ago."
"Can you stop it?"
I shook my head no. "It's not working, it doesn't let my blood healing do anything to it. That's why we need to come up with way to kill the curse."
"We've been trying to figure out how to get rid of the curse for a while, nothing has come up." Elder Virion told me. "And if your blood magic can't heal it at the level you are at now, I don't know what to do."
"Hmm." I started to think, this is my fault for taking too long to think about this. "Let me think."
"Maybe Arthur has an idea." Elder Virion might have had a point, Arthur never came down here to see her, he doesn't know a lot about the curse.
"Yeah, when he gets back from wherever he is at, you should have someone send him down here." I told Elder Virion as I sat back down in the chair.
"Aldir tried everything, he couldn't do anything either." I needed an idea, and quickly.
We need to heal Cynthia, let's think, how does someone do such a thing. "Do you think my power isn't strong enough?"
"Your blood healing is one of the most power healing arts I know of." As Elder Virion spoke, I got an idea.
"My mother." An idea popped into my mind, and I think Elder Virion saw it. "Has my mother tried to heal her?"
"No, because her healing magic won't get rid of the curse." I bit my lip, thinking everything over, I knew it wouldn't be as easy as just having my mother come down here.
"What if â" I stopped talking and made sure to think the idea through, then began to speak again. "What if my mother and I use our healing magic at the same time? She heals the body, and I try to terminate the curse. It's just an idea, but what do you think?"
"It's worth a try." Elder Virion told me. "If you are telling me that the curse could activate any time now, then we should try everything."
"I agree." I said, and Elder Virion stood up and made his way to the door.
"You." He pointed at someone outside the door, I couldn't see who. "Go get Mrs. Leywin, and have someone send Arthur Leywin down here when he comes back." He then came back into the room and stood at the foot of the bed. "This will work."
"I hope so." I stood up and started to manipulate the blood again inside of Cynthia. "It's our best shot at the moment."
"I have faith." Elder Virion looked at me. "Arthur just came back, you are here, it feels like it was meant to be. We can save her, I know it."
I felt something inside of Cynthia, something I never felt before. "What the hell?!" I closed my eyes as I started to focus. "I think the curse is, is activating."
"What?!" A dark aura started to emit out of Cynthia, like actually, it wasn't a lie. "I feel it this time."
"Shit." I started moving blood all around her, then started to use my blood magic. The aura stopped, and I held the curse stable.
"What did you do? It stopped." Elder Virion moved to the side again and held Cynthia's hand.
"I'm holding the curse from activating, but I can't do it forever." I told him with a worried face, shit, I screwed this shit up.
I think in the novel, the curse activated during the day, and then killed Cynthia at night. This would explain everything, maybe no one was down here in the novel, and didn't feel the curse.
Anna is a medic, she only takes care of Cynthia, so she wouldn't feel the aura.
What about the guards in the hall, maybe you needed to be a certain strength to feel it. That's why Elder Virion and I felt it right now only.
It's funny, I made up a lie about a dark energy, and now it's coming true. I guess that's what I get for lying.
I continued to hold the curse, where was my mother? I still don't think it's going to work; it would be way too easy.
"How long can you hold it?" He asked me, and I looked up at him.
"I have no clue." I could probably hold it for a while, I still had a lot of mana. "My mother just needs to get here soon."
The old elf had a worried expression on his face, I didn't mean for any of this to happen, but it's good I did. Now, we can figure this out, before something happens to her. There's always a way to break curses in books, I have to think outside the box.
