Currently, in Captain Glory's tent, stood Arthur, Captain Glory, Captain Auddyr, a soldier named Griffin, and me. Both companies were now together, word was sent to Elder Virion, but there isn't any other force nearby that can help us.
Captain Auddyr, was this big man, wearing this fancy noble armor set, when Arthur and me first arrived, he didn't seem pleased to see us, like we were just kids in the way. I didn't take it personal, I thought of him as a noble in the war, so it canceled out.
"What's the plan, Generals?" Vanesy turned to Arthur and asked, when we were gone, Captain Auddyr's division showed up on the cliff, and we told them that it was true, there were five thousand troops heading this way.
"Are we really taking their word for it?" The big man Captain Auddyr asked. "There is no way five thousand troops can just walk through the dwarven territory unrecognized." They can if the dwarves are helping them, which we know already, so I don't know why we were even sent here. Unless the hope is, Rahdeas is supposed to make the dwarves help us, but I know that's not going to work either.
"We saw for ourselves, Captain." Arthur said with a strict tone of voice. "First, I would send someone to go tell your company to move away from the cliff, and into the forest, hidden out of sight for now."
"Tch." Captain Auddyr said. "I think, if they are coming, we should meet them head on with our two forces combined, we'll outnumber them, and drive them back."
"That's your plan?" I said questioningly.
"Elder Virion entrusted the safety of our divisions to the Generals, they should be the ones to make the decision." Vanesy said to everyone.
"As Captain, I know what's best for my division, and attacking them straight on is just that." Captain Auddyr wanted the credit of the victory; I think that's what this is about.
"Do you honestly believe attacking them straight on is the best military strategy?" Arthur asked him seriously. "I want to know."
"Yes." He responded quickly. "My men are all trained and merciless, they will not lose a fight like this." Captain Auddyr took a step back from Arthur, I think he was scared slightly. "I'm sorry that I won't take the word of two children."
"Understand, I may be a child, but I out rank you, Captain." Arthur was now speaking aggressively, it made me smile a little. "So, send this man here, Griffen I believe, to tell your men to make their way into the forest, and to stay out of sight until Captain Glory's team joins them." My brother's aura changed, and this made everyone flinch a little, except me.
"Y-yes sir." Captain Auddyr waved his hand toward Griffen, and he left and did as Arthur said.
"Damn, he just made you his bitch." I started to giggle slightly, I could see Captain Auddyr glaring at me, but I ignored it. Arthur nudged me, probably to tell me to stop.
"I'm sorry about him." Arthur shook his head but was smirking slightly. "Vanesy, have all your men join them, we can keep them split up, but have the divisions fight side by side." He paused for a second then went on. "Make sure it's a spot that gives us access to the cliff."
"Will do." Vanesy left the tent, and made the preparations we asked for, leaving Captain Auddyr, Arthur, and me.
"I could go by us some time?" I shrugged. "Lower their numbers a little." It was night out, so everyone was moving around in the dark with little to no light.
"Veer, you aren't going to fight them alone, which I know you want to." I was starting to get really excited; I knew it was the serpent doing, but I couldn't help it.
"I know, how are we going to go about the fight?" I asked him, ignoring Captain Auddyr's prescence at the moment.
"We are sticking together, side by side." Arthur didn't want me to be away from him in a fight like this.
"No." I said. "There should be one of us in the middle of each division."
"We are sticking together, Veer." Arthur was speaking very authoritatively. "I won't let anything happen to you in the first battle."
"That isn't your choice, and it isn't the best choice." I sent him a reassuring smile. "You know it Arthur, it's better if we separate, you can't treat me like your younger brother right now."
"Haha." Arthur laughed. "I can't believe you're saying that to me." We exchanged smiles. "Fine, you're right. I'll go with Captain Auddyr's division, you're staying with Vanesy."
"Okay." I nodded, being okay with that plan.
"Captain Auddry, I would go be there for your men, they could use some guidance getting ready." Arthur told the man.
"What's your plan? You haven't even told us yet. Are we going to be fighting them in the woods or something?" He seemed displeased to know what we were planning.
"We are going to fight them head on, like you wanted." I spoke up. "Just on the cliff, so if they back up, they fall to their uncertain doom."
He shook his head, like he couldn't understand. "That's good and all, but how are we going to get a force that size to the cliff?"
"I'll deal with that." I said, Arthur knew what I had planned, and he thought it was a good idea.
"You, I understand you're strong and all, but you should inform me on what you have planned." The Captain had some balls talking to me like that.
"I'm going to use magic, what else do you want me to say?" I looked at him with a confused face, he rolled his eyes, and made his way out of the tent without saying anything. He was probably going to help out his division, I could feel Captain Glory's troops already moving deeper into the forest.
"This is a smart plan, Veer, I have to say, I'm impressed you thought of this so quickly." Arthur and I were now alone in the tent.
"Thanks." I made my way over to Vanesy's chair and sat down.
"Can you really pull off something this big?" Arthur asked me as he sat on the other side of the table, Sylvie was in his cloak sleeping. "I haven't seen your magic yet, so I'm curious to see just how powerful you are."
"Arthur, you have no idea." I swung my feet up onto the desk. "Just wait and you'll find out." I think it's time for him to know. "There is one more thing that is worrying me."
"And what's that?"
"Well, someone had to of told the Alacryans that there were troops here from Dicathen, so they also probably know that we are here as well." I could see Arthur realizing what I meant. "I can't help but think, while we are fighting tomorrow, a Retainer or Scythe might show up."
"If that happens, one of us, or both, will take care of them." Arthur told me. "It all depends on how the battle is going."
"That works for me." I shrugged. "I was thinking, if they are sending someone to kill us, you know it's really cold here for normal people, and we are in a forest. I think they'll be sending Jagrette, I have a feeling her magic has something to do with plants and acid."
"You may be right; I think we can take her though." Arthur was right, if we fought her together or alone, we could take her down. "It's good you told us of their approach, more soldiers would have died if you didn't." He looked at me skeptically. "But didn't you tell me you needed to be in your phase one to track blood?"
"Yes, I was in my phase one." I leaned my head back. "I was only trying to be safe here in the camp, you never know what might happen."
"Okay." Arthur leaned back in his chair as well. "We really should go out there and help out."
"Like five more minutes, I just sat down." I sighed, not really wanting to get up. "They don't even know we are here, only the two Captain's, and some of the men who saw us fly away."
"Good point, five more minutes won't hurt." We both giggled a little. "Veer, you don't seem nervous, which worries me."
"Arthur, I've been fighting for my life for the past two years, I'm used to it." I closed my eyes, resting them for a little, I wasn't tired or anything, I just wanted to close them while I could.
"Yes, but this is a battle against five thousand men, not one hundred." Arthur was right, it would worry normal people. "You can't take on a force this size alone."
"I'm not alone, I have you with me." I sighed loudly. "Let's just focus, isn't this your first battle as well?"
"Well, yeah, but I am worried." Arthur admitted. "I don't know what's going to happen out there."
"We are going to kill them all, that's what's going to happen." I opened my eyes and stood up. "How about we get going? I think we should go calm our soldiers down a little."
Arthur stood up with me. "Might as well." The two of us made our way out of the tent, and into the camp. Soldiers were packing, placing armor on, moving their stuff into the forest. I could see Captain Glory pointing out directions to people.
"Arthur, you should go and make sure Captain Auddyr is doing what he should be doing." I told him as we stood there and observed. "I'll stay here with Captain Glory until everyone is up and packed."
"Don't just stand there recruits! Help out!" A soldier said, staring at us from the closest tent, which was about ten yards away.
"Haha." I laughed and hit Arthur's arm. "He thinks we are recruits." I bent over and laughed some more. "Haha."
"Veer." Arthur said, and I slowly stopped. "I'm going to Captain Auddyr's division, you stay here with Vanesy, and behave."
"I will, don't worry." Arthur conjured wind under his feet and shot himself into the forest toward the other division. The soldier was looking at me still confused by my sudden outburst. "What?"
"You aren't recruits, fine, you still need to help out." He said as he took down his tent.
"Shut up." I told him as I walked past him and toward Captain Glory, I wasn't tryin to be rude or anything, but he should focus on what he had to do, not me.
"What did you say?" He went to grab me, but I swatted his hand away. The man was built like my father, not super big, but not small.
"I'm Lance Virion, I didn't mean to be rude, it's just I have things to do." I noticed when I said that, all the soldiers around faced me. I sighed and raised my arms. "Yes, I am here to fight with you, relax and get back to work."
"The Devil of Dicathen is fighting with us?" A younger soldier, not too much older than Arthur said.
Another soldier spoke up. "He is just a boy."
"Move!" Captain Glory shouted, and the soldiers snapped out of their trance and started moving around again, sometimes shooting me glances. "Did Arthur go to the other company?"
"Yeah, you're stuck with me." I said jokingly.
"Haha, that's not an awful thing, I know what you can do." Vanesy said, and I smiled. "I know with Arthur and you there, we won't lose."
"Even without us, you still would have had a good chance of winning." We stood there watching soldiers running around. "It won't be a close battle for you guys."
"What do you mean for you guys?"
I shrugged. "I'm saying in general; it won't be close; we are going to massacre them."
"It's bad to say, but I hope so." Vanesy said. "It's good to hear that from you though, for some reason I feel better about our odds with you saying that."
"Well, I'm getting too excited, I'm going to go for a walk." I stood there, giving her a serious look. "Don't tell Arthur I said I was excited, okay? I know it's bad, but I can't help it."
"Alright." She looked at me questioningly, I nodded my head and walked away.
My hands were starting to twitch, I needed to calm my mind from everything for a little. Captain Glory didn't need my help moving her camp deeper into the forest, so I started to walk away from everyone.
I took deep breaths, and prepared for what was to come. I was going to have another opportunity to fight a Retainer. This one, however, I was going to kill, not keep alive like I did with Uto.
