Chapter 129: The End

"That's what I'm about to do." Veer spoke, and then shot himself at the Scythe as fast as he could. I still can't believe this is my brother, he has changed so much, I quickly followed behind him, holding Dawns Ballad at my side with ice and electricity enhancing it.

Veer swung his sword at the Scythe as his illusions ran through him, swinging their blades at him, but the Scythe didn't care about them, he was focused on the two of us. What did Veer have planned?

I followed behind Veer as his blade missed the Scythe, I parried his long black sword, drove my sword towards his core, but was met with a giant spike aimed for my legs, it quickly stopped before it reached me, so I continued my attack, my sword was swatted away by the hand of Sylvia's killer.

I wanted him to die so badly, but we weren't strong enough. My goal now was to make sure Veer didn't die or get taken, I couldn't lose him, I didn't care if he was a reincarnate like me, he obvious didn't care that I was one, since he knew.

I dodged the Scythe's sword, Veer launched into him, forming some sort of shield made out of blood to deflect a black sword that was made out of fire, then as I swung my blade at the Scythe's ribs, Veer swung his at the Scythe's head.

He became intangible, like he was doing before, our blades hit nothing, but almost hit each other, if it wasn't for Veer shooting up into the air with his wind magic, I might have hit him with my blade.

Bullets of blood shot out of Veer's shield at the Scythe as he stayed in this gas like form that seemed impossible, the bullets passed right through the Scythe, and then he reformed himself before us as he stood in the middle.

I shot myself at him, swinging my sword at his head, and then his chest, but he dodged everything I threw at him, he was just too fast for me, I wasn't strong enough to defeat him. The soulfire blade came down on my face, luckily, Veer was there to deflect it away as I sent my blade again at his chest.

Veer's ice blade shattered to the ground, the fire blade came for his head, but the Scythe's arm froze in midair, giving him and I just enough time to move out of the way. I continued my attack though as Veer backed up, my blade was so close to his core region, if I could hit it, and hurt him there, it may give us just enough time to escape.

Veer's illusions were annoying for me, I couldn't exactly tell where the real one was, but I was able to sense him. I know he's trying to distract Cadell, but it's kind of distracting me as well. My blade was met with his long black sword that swatted mine to the ground. I activated "Static Void" and dodged the black fire blade just in time and appeared behind the Scythe.

I drove my sword towards his back, a blade of ice came at him in the front, the ground started to shake, and I heard Veer start to laugh. "Hahaha!" It had to of been the Beast Will I gave him, it must be acting up, making him lose himself.

The ground stopped shaking, Cadell blocked my sword with his sword made from black flames, not even looking at me, he was still facing Veer as his other sword blocked mine. "I am tired of this mana core trick." Cadell spoke harshly.

I wanted this man to die so badly, he killed Sylvia, Sylvie's mother right in front of me, and I couldn't do anything then, but I could now.

'Arthur, don't lose yourself, I think Veer might be.' Sylvie sent a message to me, as I activated "Static Void" and moved to the side of Cadell, swinging my blade at his ribs as Veer still held his blade against his.

As "Static Void" deactivated, I sent a message to Sylvie. 'I know Sylv, but it angers me, that even after all the training I did, I'm still not strong enough to take this Scythe down.'

My blade connected with air, as the ground started to shake, and then stopped again, Veer spoke up, while the Scythe reformed himself five yards from us, still ignoring the illusions Veer had attacking him. "Cadell, I thought you were going to end this already; it's been quite some time."

It also angers me to think about how strong Veer actually is, but I guess it makes sense. He's a reincarnate like me, he must have knowledge of something that allowed him to get to the point he is now.

Cadell ignored my brother, and black spikes started to erupt towards us. 'I'm coming down."

'No, Sylv, it's too dangerous.' I shot back, dodging a spike, activating "Static Void" once again, giving myself enough time to get closer to the Scythe, somehow, Veer was already there, the real one, swinging his ice blade at the Scythe's face, I followed behind him, but as the Scythe went to deflect his attack, Veer disappeared like he wasn't even there.

I drove Dawns Ballad into the Scythe's chest region, Veer reappeared above us, swinging his sword down on the Scythe's head, with a smile on his face.

He was losing it.

"Come on, Cadell!" Our blades crashed against two black spikes that grew from the ground at a fast pace, I was just able to sense them to be able to dodge the one closest to me. "Show me more!"

I spun, conjured a gust of wind and shot it at the Scythe, pushing him backward, and then sent a mental message to my bond. 'Sylv, maybe I should have you get Veer out of here before he loses it even more.'

'I can, but do you think he'll just allow me to do that?"

'You're right." Veer wouldn't allow Sylvie to just take him away while I fought, but Veer's knowledge about this guy was spot on, which means he knows stuff about Alacrya.

A beam of energy came flying down at the Scythe from Sylvie, hitting him scare in the chest, the beam on coming down, pushing him backwards, but it wasn't doing any real damage to him. "Ve--" I went to call out to my brother, but he already was jumping into the carnage, swinging his ice blade at the Scythe, moving faster than I have ever gone, it's amazing.

Blue fire, like my own, started to surround his body, and as the beam of energy stopped hitting Cadell, Veer came down on the Scythe with a tremendous force, swinging his blade hard, it collided with the Scythe's long black sword, and it caused a loud explosion, moving me backwards a little.

"Damn, didn't see that coming, did you." Cadell's black sword was broken in half, Veer's ice blade was in pierces, I had no clue what happened, but it didn't matter, the sword Cadell had, regrew, and he swung it at my brother.

Veer smiled as he conjured another sword of ice, dodged the attack, vanished before me, and appeared behind Cadell, driving him backwards, toward me. The Scythe turned his back to me, keeping his attention on Veer, so while they exchanged blows, I started to conjure ice, fire, electricity, and wind mana all in front of me, aiming it at the Scythe's back.

'You sensing what I have planned?' I asked my bond, I felt a mental nod from her, and as we both completed our spells, we got ready to launch them, Veer was still in the way, so we had to wait, he was going toe to toe with the Scythe though, every time I felt mana building up inside of him, it just disappeared, not all the time, but enough to keep us alive, without him here, I would be dead, I knew that.

Veer was thrown to the side, giving us an opening, Sylv and I released our spells, and the two beams of energy combined in the air, heading straight for the Scythe's back, and as they hit him, the illusions around him faded as an explosion went off, shaking the whole field, causing debris to fly up, dust to build up, I had no clue what happened, but that was one of our most powerful combos.

"Hahaha." I heard laughing coming from my brother. "Nice one, Arthur." The dust settled, revealing that the Scythe's armor had been damaged, but not broken, and there was no wound that I could see.

"Damn you Blood Deviant, removing my mana at the last second." Cadell stood before Veer, swinging his fire sword at him, it was deflected by Veer's ice blade into the ground, Veer sent an illusion at him from the side, Cadell ignored it as it swung its sword at him.

I activated "Static Void" once again, not knowing how many more times I could do it, appeared next to them, swung my blade, on impact everything shook, our blades were at a standstill, but we all knew who was winning this battle at the moment, Veer and I needed to get away, just looking at his arm made me feel the pain he must be going through, but he is fighting.

"It's over!" Cadell roared, and even being able to feel the mana building up below me, I couldn't stop it.

"Ahhhh!" Veer and I yelled as two black spikes entered our legs, dropping us to our knees.

'I'm getting you two out of here now!" Sylvie said to me.

'Get Veer out of here! Leave me, I can't lose him.'

'I'll get both of you.'

However, as the red eyed Vritra smiled down at us, Veer started to laugh, but that wasn't what confused me. "Haha." He was back on his feet, his wounds on his legs already healed, his arm still shattered, and he was starting to ambush the Scythe once again, summoning fire, ice, wind, all aiming it at the Scythe as he swung his sword, and the two exchanged blows.

I broke the two spikes, so I was able to free my legs, and they started to heal, Veer was using his blood healing on me while he was fighting. 'Sylv, I can't walk.' I tried to get up, but couldn't, it hurt too much.

'Look out.' Sylvie said as she reached her claws down and picked me up, throwing me on to her back as I looked toward the noise of the fight, spells were being rained down on the Scythe, Veer was doing everything he could to take him down, but it was meaningless, nothing was working. 'Should I just pick him up, Cadell might catch me with his speed?'

'Yes, go Sylv, we need to get out of here.'

The spells stopped, and as Sylvie began to flap her wings, the two were standing across from each other, illusions ran at him, why was Veer still doing this? The illusions were not working, he shouldn't waste his mana like that, but that's when I watched in horror as we flew toward him.

The Scythe spun around, blocked an elven sword heading for his core, I thought it was an illusion holding the blade, but it must have been the real Veer, however, the Veer I thought was real, launched himself at the Scythe as well, bringing his blade down on him, it was blocked by his soulfire blade.

The one Veer deformed into a puddle of blood, and that's when I realized it was a clone of him, I knew he could do that, but I haven't seen it in person, it's quite impressive, but that's when the impossible happened, something I never thought I would have to see.

Cadell's long black sword was sent through Veer's chest, right below his core, impaling him, and as his body slung over the blade, free from any movement, I screamed in agony. "Nooooo!"

Sylvie went to grab his body, but was stopped as large black spikes, bigger than I have ever seen before appeared before us, blocking our path, and we were forced to fly up into the sky.

"No, this can't be." I said softly, Veer still hasn't moved, he was dead. My chest began to hurt, anger built up, my brother was dead before me, how could this be. I felt my eyes start to water, and the Scythe spoke up.

"The High Sovereign wanted him alive, but he said his mana core was just as good." Cadell grinned at me. "Just another life, the great Arthur Leywin couldn't save." I started to breathe heavily, getting ready to shoot myself at the Scythe from on top of Sylvie. "That's to be expected of a Lesser."

'Arthur." Sylvie said, getting my attention. 'I know this is hard, but we can't take him down, not without your brother, and we can't retrieve his body without being taken down.'

'I know Sylv.'

"No words from the boy wonder." Cadell laughed. "So be it, I'll be taking my leave." The Scythe turned around, now with Veer's body slung over his shoulder. "Let's see the hope your Continent has without its Devil and boy wonder."

"I'm going to kill you!" I shouted at him, still in pain, the soulfire and spikes in my legs were hurting tremendously, Veer's blood magic wasn't doing anything anymore, and I could feel it.

"I'll remember that, if we see each other again." Cadell vanished with Veer's body, and Sylvie landed on the ground, the mist faded away, spikes and burn marks covered the field.

I slid off of Sylvie's back, and onto the ground, I started to cry more as I thought about my brother's death, how could he possibly be dead, he couldn't be, it has to be a joke. "This isn't real, right, Sylv?"

'Arthur.' I could feel the sadness coming from my bond as she spoke. 'I'm sorry.'

'No, tell me it isn't real, please.' I stared at a spot on the battlefield where blood was, most likely Veer's. 'Sylv, he can't be dead.'

'We should get you back, you need medical treatment.' I watched as tears fell from the dragon's eyes; I knew she cared for my brother as well.

This can't be!

Tears continued to flow down my cheeks, I couldn't help it, I thought about everything, I was too weak, I couldn't save him, how was I supposed to win this war knowing that's how strong a Scythe was?

I dropped Dawn's Ballad, and cried, shouted, slammed my fist into the ground, thinking about my eleven year old brother's body being slung over the Scythe's back like he meant nothing to him.

"Noooo!" I shouted again, slamming my forehead onto the ground. "Ahhhhh!" Damn this world, dammit for taking him from me.

I tried to wipe away my tears, but they just kept coming, my parents were never going to forgive me for this, I'll never forgive myself for this.

Veer's dead...
