Lyra back stepped, I swung again, she back stepped again, shot a sound wave at me, I jumped to the side, launched myself up at her, pointing my sword at her core, and as I got closer, the Retainer spoke. "Fall!" Her voice so demanding, causing me to go numb once again, and as my momentum took me towards her, Lyra grabbed my wrist, and threw me into a nearby tree with a great force, sending me through three trees, maybe more, I couldn't tell, because of the pain I was in.
As the debris settled after the attack, I got up, very, very slowly from the tree I was in, bent over, and spit a mouthful of blood out. "Dammit." I said out loud, knowing I couldn't do anything, she was just too strong. I formed a blade of wind in both of my hands, I lost my regular sword in the process of getting tossed like a rag doll and had no clue where it was.
"Seems like you still have some fight in you." Lyra, who was standing in the opening she threw me from said with a grin. "Let's continue then, Lance." I just now realized the noises in the distance of the other battles going on, I hope they are winning, cause at the moment, I am not.
A sound wave came at me, I quickly rolled to the side, slower than usual, got to my feet, and readied myself for combat. My two wind blades at my side, ready to strike her down if I get the chance to.
I built up the energy to attack, and launched myself at her through the trees, swinging my swords at her. The Retainer met me halfway, dodged my first sword, shot a sound wave, I side stepped that, swung my other blade at her head.
The Retainer ducked, sent a mana reinforced kick towards my ribs, I back stepped her foot, swung my blade at her chest, and she stopped me by sending a sound wave, forcing me, once again, to divert my path away from her.
I conjured wind behind her, and instead of forming a spell that does damage, all I did was have the wind current push her towards me, and as she did, I swung my blade at her head. The Retainer, using the wind I pushed her with as momentum, fell to her knees, and slid under my blade as she got close to me.
She shot to her feet, spun around, shot a sound wave, I met it with a current of wind, that disappeared as it hit her spell, but gave me enough time to get out of the way. I pushed myself at her, swinging my blade at her head, she ducked, swung her fist into my gut, causing me to spit up more blood, but I pushed passed it, bringing my left elbow to her face as I spun in the air using wind magic to increase my movements, hitting the scythe direction in the cheek where I hit her before.
The Retainer moved to the side slightly, I fell to my knees once again, breathing heavily as I tried to catch my breath. "That was a nice move, I'll admit that." Lyra said, and that is when she removed the helmet she was wearing, it had cracks on it, but wasn't close to being broken.
For some reason I was expecting some ugly bitch, but I'm sure she was popular with the guys, her red hair danced around without the helmet on, it was interesting. "I appreciate it." I got back up to my feet, facing her again, standing ten yards apart. "You aren't bad yourself."
"I wasn't saying you were good." Lyra tilted her head. "I knew the Lances of Dicathen were weak, but I didn't know it was this bad." She paused, bit her lip, thinking about something. "Honestly, if you didn't have the little devil who defeated Uto, and his brother, Arthur, the boy wonder, I don't see how you guys even compete with us in a war." I didn't respond, somewhat agreeing with her now that I know how strong a Retainer is. "You must agree with me, hearing nothing coming from you."
"Two people can't win a war." I told her, releasing the wind blade in my left hand. She shook her head at me, and I shrugged. "You think so?"
"No, I do, you are right, two people can't win a war, but they can sway it, control where it is heading." Lyra's red hair danced in the air as she spoke very seriously to me, her enemy. "The young Lance has already defeated one of us, survived a battle with my mentor, I'll say it, he's impressive."
"I don't see where this is going." I said, wiping my mouth, blood covered my hand, but I ignored it.
"I'm saying, what would happen if your young Lance killed our High Sovereign, where would the war go? Would it end? Would the battles become more deadly? One person has the ability to change everything in a war, but they can't win it themselves." She paused, then started to laugh. "Hahaha, however, your little Lance can't kill our High Sovereign, so there is no point in thinking about it, but he can affect how badly Dicathen suffers throughout this war."
"Well, it's not like we are just going to give up." I said, preparing to only use wind mana to increase my speed, and that's it, since she can repel all my other spells. "You done talking?"
"If you are prepared to die, Lance." Lyra spoke and as she did, sound waves formed all around her, maybe ten to twenty, were launched at me, it was a wide scale attack, I needed to move out of here.
I shot myself as fast as I could using wind mana to increase my movements, dodged attack after attack as I got closer to the Retainer standing still. I swung my blade at her head, ended up behind her as she dodged my attack, spun around, thrusted my sword into her chest.
Lyra swatted my blade to the side, brought a fist down on me, reinforced with some sort of magic. I shot wind out of my chest, pushing me backwards, then launched myself at her again, driving my blade into her.
My sword went past her, but I didn't, I collided with the Retainer, driving us into a tree. The Retainer grabbed my throat, threw me into the tree, my wind sword disappeared, and that's when she threw a punch into my head, then another, and another, took a step back, and shot a sound wave into me.
I was sent through the tree, and into the ground, coughing as my lungs gasped for air, and I spit up even more blood. Unlike last time, she continued her attack, shooting another sound wave into me, and as that one connected, I felt my vision flicker in and out of consciousness.
As I came to, another spell was heading toward me, I willed mana into my body, and shot out of the small crater I was laying in directly at the Retainer, driving my sword with the strength I had left toward her.
Lyra smiled and side stepped, letting me go past her, and I landed on my feet, ten yards from her again, bent over, tired, but I still had enough energy to keep going, at least, I think. I started to manipulate wind mana all around me, trying to form a twister, but I needed a little time, cause if I activated it, she would just use that vibration spell again on it.
"Done?" Lyra said, taking small steps toward me.
"Not even close." Maybe a little close I thought, but I can do this. Looking past her, I could see the damage she caused by her sound spells, it was tremendous, no normal mage would be able to do what she did.
"Good." She shot herself at me, I prepared myself in a defensive stance.
A sound wave came at me, I reinforced myself with mana, and dug into the ground, and just let it hit me. The spell pushed me back about five yards, but I was still on my feet, that is when she came in, swinging her fist at my face.
I ducked, conjured a wind blade in my hand, brought it up into her ribs, but she was already to my side, sending an elbow toward my head. I back stepped while I was leaning over, her elbow barely missed, and I swung my sword lazily at her, giving her plenty of time to dodge the attack.
Her fist came back for my face, but I managed to dodge it just in time. I had no clue if this was going to work, it could end up that my own spells does more damage to me, than to her.
As the Retainer stood in my face, I activated my twister spell right on us, the wind mana I had started to spin, faster, and faster, causing us both to fly up into the air, spinning around in the process at a high speed.
I shot wind blades at her at the same time, and she sent vibration spells into the twister, causing it to disrupt, and unravel. We flew in the air, maybe twenty yards off the ground, facing one another.
She flew at me, and when we collided, she aimed my back towards the ground, driving me into it. I held her off of me as the Retainer smiled, holding my arms down. "This is the end, Lance." A blade appeared in her hand, and she attempted to drive it into my rib cage, luckily, before she did, I shot wind mana out of me, pushing Lyra into the air, causing the blade in her hand to disappear.
This allowed me to get back to my feet, and shot a wind spell at her, of course, when it got within range of her, the spell was disrupted by her own. I felt myself start to quiver, I didn't know why, I was already scared, but by the looks of it, Lyra sensed the same thing I did.
What was this feeling?
Sound waves came at me, forcing me to move out of the way, I dodged one spell, then another, and another, all while the Retainer stayed in the air, looking down on me, however, that feeling my stomach grew, and grew.
"Freeze!" She shouted, trying to use the spell to numb my body, but I pushed past it with all the strength in my body, I had to win, I had too for my continent. "Stop! Stop! Stop!" She repeated, trying to mess with my body.
I dodged another sound wave, then one last one, and then formed a twisted right over her, forcing her to stop her attack on me, and use a vibration spell to get rid of the twister.
As she did that, the twister dispersed, and I was on her, the Retainer's eyes widened as I sent my sword into her shoulder, driving her into the ground, and out of the sky. I landed a hit, we connected with the ground, I pushed even harder on the blade, trying to drive it through her, and into the ground behind her.
All of a sudden, I was in the air, looking down on the Retainer, she must have used a sound wave to get me off of her, but it didn't heal the wound I left her. I landed on my feet, and watched as Lyra got off the ground and faced me.
A pressure radiated over the battlefield, the same one I felt before, but it felt closer. The battle between the Retainer and I stopped, and we watched as a figure flew up into the sky above Ashber.
"What the hell?" Lyra said, and I reinforced my eyes with mana, it was Veer, his body was growing scales, he must be activating his phase two of his beast will. "The devil has finally shown himself."
My body, my wounds, all started to feel better, how, oh, it must be Veer's blood healing. I felt rejuvenated, still in slight pain, and low on mana, but I was good to continue battling. As I turned back to Lyra, I could see a small amount of blood on her armor, nothing like the amount I lost though.
She was still looking at Veer, so I turned back to him in the sky, above us all, in the middle of all three fights currently going on. He must have already taken down everyone underground, which is truly impressive, it just shows the difference in our strength.
That is when Veer suddenly vanished in thin air.
