Chapter 174: The Party IV

Arthur and Tess just left the room, and Arthur has cut our communication. The last thing he said was watch Veer and make sure nothing bad happened when he was gone. I wonder why he rushed out so suddenly with Tess, but feeling what I did right before our mental link cut out, I think it had to do with Tess.

"Veer." I said as we swayed back and forth, he seemed to be enjoying himself, I was too, this was nice. "I think Arthur is confessing to Tess, they just left."

"I doubt it, we both know Arthur." Veer spoke and as he did, he smirked at me. "But if he did do it now, I have to imagine things would change drastically, and that could go both ways." Veer leaned his head on my shoulder, and for some reason I felt a sudden rush of joy. However, I knew he was a little tipsy right now, or whatever they call it.

"What do you mean?" I asked him.

"Well, it could be good that he confessed this early, but it could also be pretty bad. You don't know the things that might change, deaths, battles, and so much more. That is if he confesses right now, which he won't." Veer and I continued to stay in the middle of the people. "Knowing though what I do, for Arthur to confess now, I believe would change things for the better."

"Why?" I asked, not knowing if I could trust the answers from him right now.

"Think about it, Arthur tells Tess that he loves her, he fights even harder to get stronger, she does the same, and now with that horn, she should be able to reach white core at some point. This will give Dicathen three white core mages who utilize a Beast Will." Even when drunk, he is very clever, and kind. "I was thinking about how we should use that last horn, and I know we said not to give it to Tessia, but she deserves it, she really is the only one."

"You know Arthur would say otherwise." This made him laugh a little as he pulled his head back up. His cheeks were all red, but I don't think he was blushing because of me. "Maybe we should get you some water."

"No, I feel good." He told me. "I've been thinking, the next major event would be the wall incident. We have to figure out how to prevent that, of course, there is a simple way to do that."

"Don't think about that right now, Veer." I stared into his brown eyes. "Just enjoy yourself right now, deal with that tomorrow or the day after."

"I guess you are right." Veer said, then smiled. "I've been so worried about everyone else's future lately, but never thought about my own. I don't even know what I want to do with my life after all this, we don't even know if we can win."

"We can." I assured him. "With your knowledge, we most definitely can."

He shook his head. "Knowledge is important, but the fact they have more mages than us is something I can't change, they out number us drastically, in the coming battles, I don't see how the outcome of the war changes." It seems Veer is speaking honestly while under the influence. "Fine, we know that there are, I don't know, forty thousand men heading to the Elven Kingdom, what Dicathen force is going to stop that?"

"Stop thinking about the future, come on, stay in this moment." I insisted, he shouldn't worry about all that right now, he should be celebrating a victory, a victory well earned.

That was when Lance Aya came over, people eyed us up, but none of us seemed to care. "Aya." Veer said, and she smiled at him. "How are you feeling?"

"I am fine, Veer, you seem to be having fun." Aya said as Veer released me, and we stopped dancing. "Mind if you two come with me? The King and Queen would like to speak with Veer."

"Oh, no." Veer said. "Did I upset them?" His eyes were wide. "Wait, is it King Glayder or King Eralith, because I only care about one of them really."

I hit Veer on the arm. "Don't say that out loud."

"King and Queen Eralith." Aya said, motioning towards the two of them on the stage looking at us. I could see Elder Virion up there as well, but not with them. "Come on, or do you need me to carry you up there."

"I'll have you know that I am a Lance, I don't need to be carried by the likes of you." We started to walk, Veer was on my side, and as he took a couple of steps, he kept on getting closer and closer to me, like he could not walk in a straight line.

"You know I am a Lance too, right?" Aya turned to him as we got closer, the nobles and soldiers we passed eyed us up.

"I do." Veer responded. "But still, I don't need to be carried." He was basically leaning on me now as we walked. A soldier stepped out and bowed to Aya and Veer.

"Generals, I am Captain Grey, leader of the thirty second division, it is an honor to meet you." He said very graciously, and Aya spoke up, most likely making sure Veer didn't say anything.

"Captain Grey, I thank you for your service." She said, then turned toward Veer. "We are currently on our way to see the King and Queen, mind if we speak later."

"Of course, all I wanted to say was that I appreciate all that you are doing for Dicathen." Captain Grey bowed to us again, and I could see out of the side of my eye that Veer was slowly closing his eyes.

Before we could get away, Veer said one thing. "Captain Grey, hahaa, I know a ----" I covered his mouth, and we followed behind Aya. "Sylvie, what was that for?" He asked me as I removed my hand from his mouth.

"You know why, keep your mouth closed unless asked a question, okay?" I asked him, hoping he understood.

"Yes, ma'am." He said sarcastically stepping up on to the stage. "Oh my, it is so high up here."

"We are only four feet off the ground." Aya told him, and he only nodded his head, making no noises. "Jeez, what did he drink." Aya and I laughed a little, then we finally reached the royal family.

"Virion, Lady Sylvie, thank you Aya, for bringing them here." King Eralith said, and Aya stepped off to the side, leaving Veer and me alone with the King and Queen. "Virion, we haven't spoken in a while, and I just wanted to let you know, that we are thankful for everything you have done so far. I know you are making a major sacrifice with your mental state, but we thank you, like I said."

I feared what Veer was going to say to the King, but he actually answered in a respectful way. "It is my honor to do what I am doing; you know that I would do anything to protect the people I care about."

"That is good to hear." King Eralith sent him a smile, then motioned for a guard to come to him. "Go get Elbereth, I would like to introduce one of  the captains in charge of the Elven Kingdom." The guard nodded his head, and left the stage to retrieve someone, I didn't know if this was the best time to do something like this.

"Virion, Lady Sylvie, you two look very good today." The Queen spoke, looking at the two of us as she did. "Are you enjoying the party? It is for you, so I hope you are."

"We are." Veer said, and I nodded my head. "Who is this Elbereth, I've never heard of her?"

"She is a captain with plant magic, she is one of our strongest mages." The King said, and Veer tilted his head toward me, basically touching my horns.

"I've never heard of her though, I feel like I would have if she was strong." Veer faced them normally, then added. "Is she stationed in Zestier?"

"She is." The Queen answered him. "We know that you are interested in being stationed there, so we would like for her and you to get along, because you will have a big responsibility."

"Won't Aya be there?" Veer asked, now looking at the Lance to his right, basically hiding in the shadows. "Also, where's the other Lances, I thought they were supposed to be here. I don't see Varay or Mica."

"They are on missions." The King responded. "Aya is stationed in Zestier, but she goes on other missions as well, so she might now be there the whole time you are."

"Oh, okay, that's not that bad." I was silent as the two spoke to one another, I didn't really know what to say, and Veer didn't seem to care that they were the King and Queen of a Kingdom. I didn't really either, but I wanted to show my respect.

"Here she is, this is Elbereth." The King waved to a female walking up onto the stage, she was in a loose black dress that went to her ankles. She had blonde hair, a little lighter than mine, and she didn't seem to be muscular like you would think from a soldier.

"King Eralith, Queen Eralith, it's an honor." She bowed to them as she stood to the side of us, in between the King and Veer. "General Virion, it's an honor as well, I've heard of your exploits at the battle of Slore, and now this one, truly, it is a pleasure to meet you."

"Like wise, Elbereth." Veer said with a head nod as she stopped bowing to the three of them. "So, you are stationed in Zestier, it looks like I may be heading there at some point, but nothing is confirmed yet."

"Really? Zestier would be pleased if a Lance would grace his presence there." Elbereth told him, and then looked at the King. "Is there something I need to worry about? My scouts have not seen anyone even close to the city." It seems like she thinks she did something wrong because they might be sending Veer there.

"No, Elbereth, nothing is wrong, Virion is very clever and a great strategist, just like his brother. We don't have anything for him to do at the moment, so the plan was going to be to send him to Zestier for a little, and just help out where he can."

"Well, there was something that I wanted to do, but that can wait until later at a meeting." Veer told them, I didn't know what he wanted to do, but it couldn't have been something good.

"We will discuss all of this in the next Council meeting, or later, you just had a very tough battle." The Queen nodded her head at us. "We just wanted the two of you to meet here, so it would be easier to work together if you get sent to Zestier."

"Elbereth, you have plant magic, and I can see you are light yellow, close to silver core." I could see Veer thinking about something, but I didn't know what. "That is pretty strong."

"That means a lot coming from you, General, thank you." She lowered her head once again, and I was surprised that Veer was able to control himself, he didn't say anything too bad so far, but as I said that, he said something that caught the King and Queen off guard.

"If Arthur and Tess get married, what does that make me to you guys?" Veer went completely off topic, catching the King, Queen, Elbereth, and even me off guard. "Would I be nothing? Or would I be some sort of son? I'm confused."

"Why do you ask that?" The Queen finally responded, and I nudged Veer, trying to get him to shut up.

"Oh, well, Sylvie and I think that Arthur is confessing his love for your daughter right now." I shook my head as Veer spoke, Arthur still had our mental link blocked.

"Are you serious?" The Queen and King both said, and Veer nodded his head. The Queen went on. "It is about damn time."

"I think I'll be taking my leave." Elbereth bowed once again. "I'll hopefully be seeing you in Zestier, General Virion." She left the stage, leaving the four of us there. The other side of the stage stood the King and Queen of Sapin with some other people.

"I wonder how that is going." Veer smiled. "We don't know for sure though, they could be talking about something else alone." I doubted that, why would Arthur cut his mental link from me.
