(Six Months Later)
I drew my night black blade from my mana ring and faced my brother, he had out Dawn's Ballard, and was exerting a scary confident aura. I was facing the true king, a future deity. At this moment, he was only my brother.
"You ready, Veer?" Arthur asked me, as I spun my sword in my hand.
"Yeah." I augmented my body with mana and fire. "Don't go easy on me." I activated "Blood Oath."
"I won't." He got into a fighting stance, and wind mana built up around him. I see, he plans to rush in on me.
I felt for the water in the ground and brought it to the surface, and Arthur launched himself at me with terrifying speed. I quickly conjured ice all around me on the ground, so it became slippery.
Arthur appeared on the ice and swung his blade at me, I parried his attack and shot an ice spear at him. He brought up a wind wall and did the same with an ice spear. I used my flaming sword to cut through the ice.
Then Arthur appeared next to me but being able to sense him with my blood magic, I dodged his sword as it went over my head. I went for a low kick at his knee and using his momentum Arthur jumped and did a flip in the air.
As he was in the air, I shot fire out of me at him. He deflected my attack with fire of his own. Arthur then activated some electric spell, and his speed was even greater, as he vanished and came for me from above.
Using blood magic I reduced his movements, so that he was slower, totally cancelling out his electric spell. Arthur seemed to notice as he was coming down at me, because he had an opening, but it disappeared with his speed, this made him use earth magic to bring up a slab of stone under his feet. He floated in the air on it as he moved away from me.
I smiled as I launched myself into the air at him, swinging my sword at his chest. Arthur went to block my attack, but I feinted to the other side, something he taught me. He taught me, so he knew it was coming, because he shot fire at my open chest. Using water, I created a double shield of mana to protect myself from the attack, as I was launched to the ground. I landed on my feet as Arthur jumped off the slab of stone ten yards away from me.
I conjured water and fire spells in the air and sent them at him, he conjured water and fire as well and our spells cancelled out. I reinforced my legs with more mana and then propelled myself at Arthur, as I folded his legs with blood magic.
Arthur was falling to the ground, that was until his body was lifted up by wind magic. Of course, he could counter it, I continued going as he got ready for me. I swung my blade at him, he side stepped and swung at my head. I reduced his speed and pushed his arms up into the air with my wind magic. I swung my arms in a rotation and brought my sword to his rib cage.
Blue Fire erupted out of him, making me back away. I quickly used "Water Bombs." Water formed around me. Arthur shot fire and I shot water; our spells collided and created a mist over the field.
We met in the middle swinging our blades at each other. I swung at his head, Arthur ducked under it and brought his sword to my chest. I quickly brought my night black sword back to my chest deflecting his attack.
I swung my blade at him, and he spun his sword in his hands, so the blades connected. We were face to face pushing our swords together. "Seems like my little brother wants a shot at the crown." Arthur smiled at me at me.
"Haha." I laughed as the blue flames of Arthur came rushing at me, I brought up a wall of wind to push the fire up into the air. I felt for the mana in the air and conjured as much water as I could, which was basically like a small pond. I formed the water into scythes and sent them to Arthur, then I reduced his movement using blood magic.
Arthur attempted to dodge the water raining down on him, but with my blood magic working against him, he couldn't, instead he covered himself with stone from the ground. My scythes collided with the stones, and it shook the backyard. Arthur came out from behind the stones, and I could see the electric buzzing all over him again.
I conjured little specs of water around me like rain drops frozen in the air. Arthur came at me, and as he hit each water droplet, he slowed down just a little. This gave me time to react even faster to him. I swung my sword, he ducked under it, and brought his sword to my throat, before it could reach me, I disrupted his blood in his arm forcing him to drop his sword. His eyes went wide, as I brought my sword back around to his head.
In an instance Arthur was gone, appearing behind me where his sword was. He picked it up and pointed it at me, I turned around and did the same. We were at a standstill. "You made me use my Beast Will." Arthur admitted.
"I've been using my Beast Will this entire time." I shrugged with a smile on my face.
"I can tell." Arthur returned his sword to his mana ring. "Let's call it there." I did the same with my sword.
"Alright."
"My backyard!" Arthur and I turned to Uncle Vincent, my father, and Ellie staring at us. "You two destroyed my backyard!"
Arthur and I looked at each other and our eyes went wide. The backyard was burning, dug up, and just a total mess, it was absolutely destroyed.
"And you are telling me I can't go on dungeon runs?" I looked at Arthur, as our father came running over to us.
"Arthur, Veer, that was amazing! I could barely keep up with the two of you." He placed a hand on each of our shoulders. "But next time, try not to destroy your Uncle's backyard."
"That's our bad, we got a little carried away." Arthur paused. "Veer, no one is going to change their mind about you becoming an adventurer, it's not always about strength but luck." I shook my head. I was stronger than ever now, and knowing what was to come, I wanted the experience of fighting for my life.
"What was that noise?" Elijah called out as he entered the backyard. "Oh my...."
Arthur laughed and I just stared at him with disgust, I couldn't keep this up for much longer. I was most likely going to school with them as well, I was already considering removing his magic permanently by making the blood around his core eat at it. I wouldn't feel bad at all for him, he kills thousands of people for a girl, and thinks he's the good guy.
"I'm sorry, Uncle Vincent" I said as I walked toward Ellie and him, away from my father and brother. Uncle Vincent didn't respond to me as I walked past them. I made eye contact with Elijah and just looked away and made my way into the mansion.
I was tired and needed to wash up after dueling with Arthur, as I was walking to my room, Ellie came running back inside. "Veer!" I turned around and waited for her to catch up to me. "What's wrong with you?"
"What?" I asked, confused about what I did.
"I saw the way you looked at Elijah, why do you hate him?" She asked with an angry expression on her face. "You haven't even tried to get to know him."
"Haha." I laughed at my sister, who seemed angry after. "Ellie, trust me, I do not hate Elijah." It wasn't a lie, I hated Nico, Elijah isn't even a real person, there is no one to hate by that name.
"Then why do you act like you do around him?" Ellie was now within a yard of me. "You never showed a mean bone in your body before you went to Elenoir, now all of a sudden you are getting mad at Arthur and being cold to Elijah."
"Ellie." I placed my hand on her shoulder. "I'm still your baby brother." I smiled. "I didn't change, and my anger with Arthur is over becoming an adventurer, so it's not really anger. I know he means well and wants what is best for me."
"Alright." I removed my hand and started to walk away. "Call me big sister next time!" She called out, and I laughed.
Ellie and I now had separate rooms because we were older, so I made my way into my own room. I sat on my bed and thought about my fight with Arthur. I was able to keep up with him only because I reduced his speed, but my speed was still the issue. I couldn't land a hit on him.
---
After I took a shower, my mother, Ellie, Elijah, Arthur, Aunty Tabitha, and I made our way into Xyrus for a big announcement. My mother insisted on me wearing something fancy, which I didn't like.
Arthur and I were walking in the back, alone from everyone. "I'm sorry, Arthur, if I was mean to you. I know you mean well with the whole becoming an adventurer thing."
Arthur smiled. "I know, Veer, your fine." He had a look of concentration on his face.
"Arthur." I said his name seriously, and he turned to me. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing, just thinking." We stopped walking as we got closer to the stage, on it was the royal families.
"It's starting." My mother said as I stood next to her, and she wrapped an arm around
The three Kings and Queens of Dicathen, the Council of Dicathen, were all on the stage together, which meant they were announcing the new continent and the Lances today. They were all sitting in golden seats looking down on the crowd.
It's starting, the war.
King Glayder of the human race stood up and he started it off by giving a boring speech about uniting the three races, I almost fell asleep.
Then King Eralith started to speak. "Today, marks a new day for the continent of Dicathen, not just because of the unity we are forming between the races, but in the discovery we have found together." He paused and people started to talk about what the discovery might be. "We all know that there are dangerous places in this world that no one has ever visited because they were too mysterious. The council of Dicathen would like to announce the discovery of a new continent, one we know very little about."
"What?"
"A new contient?"
People started to freak out all around us, that was when the King of the Dwarves spoke up. "We have another announcement!" He shouted and the crowd immediately went silent. "With the discovery of a new continent, the council has deemed it fit, to appoint Dicathen six protectors, two from each race, with one singular goal, protect the people of Dicathen."
King Glayder spoke up again. "They shall be known as the Six Lances." The doors opened onto the stage and the six of them walked out. "Alea Triscan." I knew that things didn't end well for her. "Varay Aurae." I couldn't even sense their auras, Varay looked like a badass though, my favorite Lance.
King Eralith then spoke. "Olfred Warend." A dwarven traitor. "Aya Grephin." Aya was super pretty, but most elves were."
Then the Dwarve King spoke the last two names. "Mica Earthborn." I don't know if I'll be able to handle the way she talks in person. "Bairon Wykes." As the name was spoken, I felt a cold pressure coming off of Arthur, that quickly disappeared.
The Kings and Queens stood to the side of the Six Lances lined up across the stage, then King Glayder announced. "May our Six Lances protect us from all threats and bring us honor to Dicathen." He paused for a second. "And for all the mages in this continent to strive to be a Lance in the future."
I will admit, the Lances look pretty good up there, everyone started to clap as they saluted us.
Three of them were going to die, unless I changed their fates.
