Chapter 196: The Second to Fall

My Beginning After the EndWords: 11714

On his knees with a corrosive arrow in his chest was Callias, the soldiers all across the battlefield froze in fear as my killing intent and aura exploded out of me. They regained themselves, and started running at our front line again, a soldier made it to me as I was walking towards the injured Callias, I started using blood magic to heal him as fast as I could. I gripped his throat as I froze him using blood magic, my eyes starting to twitch once again, and in my hand against his throat an ice dagger formed, killing him.

I killed another, and another, pushed one of my men to the ground, and when I finally made it to Callias, it was too late. He sat there on his knees, his eyes were open, but he was not moving at all, that was because a second corrosive arrow was in him, but this one had hit his heart.

The anger in me grew, my aura darkened, my mind went blank with rage.

Callias was dead.

The Alacryans around me blew up, and like a switch flicked back on in my mind, the carnage and death, became enjoyable. I shot into their force, conjuring a sword, swinging it, and as I did that, ice spears grew out of the ground, impaling countless soldiers.

I killed another. "Hahhaa." I laughed conjuring two ice daggers in my hand, slitting the throat of another, blood ripped apart a man screaming in agony. Mana arrows came down near me, killing the ones I didn't get to yet.

My heart was racing, my eyes were twitching, the blood circling me shot in every direction, ripping through the flesh of all the Alacryans in came into contact with. A fork made from fire collided with my leg, causing me to fall to one knee, the fork disappeared, I closed the wound as my blood ran down to the ground, and got up to my feet.

"Hah." I tilted my head at an Alacryan looking at me. "What?" He exploded into chunks as I ripped his blood out, his ear went flying past me, causing me to laugh more. "Haha." I swung my one dagger, slicing through another soldier, slit the throat of the person next to him.

I threw both daggers, killing two people, then started walking through the force, killing anyone who got close by pulling their blood out of them, and conjuring spears out of the ground, killing multiple at a time by impaling them.

The shields were just running around at this point, they didn't have weapons, nor magic powers anymore, they couldn't do anything near me except throw punches. I waved my arm to my right, spears and blood flew in all directions, I swung my arm to the left, doing the same thing, killing dozens and dozens at a time as my mind had one thought.

Kill them all.

"Hahaha." I laughed, gripping a soldier's neck and throwing him into another, then impaled them both on one spear. I looked up at Sylvie, she was staring at me in horror, it doesn't matter anymore, I'm letting go.

A sword came down on me, missed as I moved out of the way, sent a punch into his chest, shooting ice out of my knuckles in the process. The soldier fell on to his knee's dead, but I sent one more mana reinforced punch into his face, sending his body to the ground.

The soldiers around me were giving up hope, both my hands were bloody, a scythe of wind came towards my neck, I took a slow step to the side, and allowed it to go past me. I found the person who sent the spell, vanished, and appeared before her. "Stop, do---" Her pleads were cut short as her blood came out of her throat, and into my hand, then I redirected it into another soldier's chest.

A spell came for the back of my head, I ducked, spun, killed another man, sidestepped an attack, grew a spear into between a man's legs, and watched as it came out of the top of his head. "Haha." I pointed at it as I looked at a group of soldiers scared to head my way. "You see what happened?"

They didn't respond to me, so I pulled their blood out of their bodies, and sent it up to the blood cloud that was raining down blood needles. I dodged a sword, an ax, sent wind blades to their necks, and watched as their heads fell to the ground.

I ducked under a spell, and then felt an enormous amount of mana building up above me. I looked up at Sylvie, she was looking at me as her spell formed with a very determined glare. I rolled my eyes and went back to work, killing more, and more, using all my spells to do so.

I was using my magic faster than I could replenish it, but I don't care. I only counted about five hundred left, and our force out number them now, I turned the tide of the battle drastically, spears continue to impale enemies as I conjured them left and right.

I caught a spear heading for me as a soldier threw it and spun it around in my hands. "Woah, this is cool." I said, surrounding it with blue fire, then threw it through the chest of the man who threw it at me.

The soldiers around me fell to their knees as I manipulated their bodies to the ground, then conjured ice swords in front of them, and sent their bodies into them. I stepped over corpse after corpse, sometimes on them, not caring if they were dead.

In a matter of minutes, the rest of the Alacryan force perished, and I stood there, motionless, tired, running low on mana, and wounded. I was breathing heavily, still angry, our force was cheering.

"Lance Virion!"

"You're amazing!"

"Did you see him!"

I heard people in my force say, and I fell to my knees from exhaustion, drenched in blood. The soldiers started to chat with one another, some talked about me, some talked about the battle in general.

Sylvie landed on the ground ten feet from me, and stood there, staring, seeing if I would say anything. I wiped the blood out of my eyes and looked up at her. "Veer." She said quietly as she stared at me in sorrow.

"I'm sorry." I said to her, and she took small steps towards me. "I didn't want to lose control, but, but I couldn't stop myself." Sylvie stopped right in front of me, got down on her knees, and grabbed my head, pulling me into her chest.

"You don't have to apologize." Sylvie said as I closed my eyes, relaxing in her arms. "I'm sorry about Callias, I truly am, Veer." I didn't respond, just kept my head on her. "You did your best, you can't protect everyone, don't blame yourself."

"That's the thing, I can blame myself, Callias was the one who suggested we should leave as soon as things turned to shit, and I didn't listen to him." I felt her hand hold the back of my head, feeling my breathing start to slow.

"Don't say that." Sylvie told me, and I felt three other people come over to us, the other soldiers were staying away, not because they were scared, but that they were allowing me to calm down. "It was not your fault, I don't know what happened exactly, but even that doesn't entitle you to blame yourself, you both knew the risk."

"Lance Virion." I heard the voice of the elven girl Melody. "I'm so sorry, I liked Callias as well, it's sad to see him go." I didn't look up, I knew it was Melody, Cassandra, and Daryl.

"Give him some space." Sylvie told them, and the three of them slowly backed away, listening to her words. "Veer, we should get you back." She slowly pushed me off her and held both sides of my face with her hands. I opened my eyes, staring directly into hers. "You did good, you saved countless people today, and brought down a big force." She leaned over and kissed my forehead. "Let's get you to your feet."

I still had my phase two activated, I knew when I deactivated it, I would feel the aftereffects, so I was waiting. Sylvie went to get to her feet but stopped as I deactivated "Blood Monarch" and fell forward slightly, she caught me again as my body reverted back to normal.

"You okay?" She asked me, and I nodded. "Let's get you up." She grabbed my arm and helped me to my feet. "Someone find out how to deactivate this shield." She ordered the men, and they started to look for the device that turned it on.

"Wait." I pushed her arm off of me and made my way to Callias's corpse. Sylvie followed me, and when I got there, I bent over and picked his corpse up.

"Veer, you don't have to do that." Sylvie said. "You can have some else do it."

I shook my head. "No, I can't."

"Found it!" Someone shouted, and the shield array disappeared.

With the small amount of mana I had left, I flew up into the air, I didn't need to give any orders, they knew what they had to do. Sylvie flew up behind me, and as I landed on the surface, I made my way to our camp a mile out with Callias's body in my arms.

Sylvie landed behind me and picked up her pace to walk by my side. She didn't say anything, she didn't have to, I knew she cared for me, and wanted what was best, and right now, it was doing this.

It was hard to walk slightly, that fire fork left a big wound that even when closed, still hurt badly, but I pushed through the pain, knowing I could. "Sylvie, relay what happened today to Arthur, and have him tell Elder Virion."

"O-okay." She stuttered slightly, not expecting me to say anything about what just happened.

I must have killed more than three thousand soldiers down there, maybe even more, I didn't count. Who does? All I knew was that there was a lot of death on my hands, and that it would never fade away now, the serpent was winning the war over my mind.

We walked in silence until we arrived at the camp, I placed Callias's body on a wagon outside one of the tents, and then Sylvie grabbed me, holding a towel in her hands. "Let's wash you up." She pulled me into an opening and took off the blood covered cloak. "I need you to conjure water though."

Without saying anything, I conjured water over my head and had it drench me. When I stopped conjuring the water, Sylvie took the towel, and started to clean my face with it. I just stood there and let her do it, she wiped away any blood that I missed with the water, cleaning me up.

When she finished, she asked me to help her, so I did the same for her, I conjured water on her, and cleaned her face with the other side of the towel that didn't have blood on it.

After the two of us got all the blood off of us, Sylvie said. "How about we go rest for a while? I think you need it." He took my hand, and the two of us walked to my tent. I was so tired, I was tired of everything going on, and this was just the beginning really.

We stepped into our tent, she pulled me over to my bed, sat down, and motioned for me to join her, so I did. I was sitting there, thinking about everything that had just gone down, and I felt her arms wrap around me and pull me into her again.

"Just close your eyes and rest." Sylvie told me, and we leaned over and laid on the bed together. She was holding my head against her chest, so I wrapped my arms around her and closed my eyes, taking her advice. "Don't think about anything, I am here for you, I always am."

I felt happy in this moment, I know Callias was dead, but being here in Sylvie's arms made me feel a lot better. I felt relaxed, knowing that I was safe here, except the thought of killing three thousand men kept on replaying in my mind, even if Sylvie told me not to think about it, that was something very hard not to think about.

We lost over a thousand men ourselfves, I didn't know the exact number, but it was a big one. I get that we had eighteen hundred, and they had five thousand, so winning this battle was a huge upset, but I was here, and I really didn't want to lose that many.

"Stop thinking about it." Sylvie said, somehow knowing what I was thinking about. "Do you need me to talk you to sleep?"

"Ha." I laughed slightly at her. "Sure."

"Fine." Sylvie said, holding my head against her chest still, then she began to talk as I tried to sleep. I was tired from using so much mana in the battle, it only took about three to four minutes of her words for me to fall asleep.
