(One Week Later)
Sylvie Indrath
I woke up in bed, Veer was no longer with me, and as I spun to look around the tent, inside, there was no one. It's been a week since Callias's death, Veer and I have been sharing a bed ever since. The thing that worried me was that he hasn't cried, not even once, however, it was obvious he was sad.
A day ago, we arrived near another Alacryan camp, Elder Virion and Arthur both suggested that Veer should come back to the Floating Castle, but he denied them. He said that he was fine, and that he wanted to keep going.
We were basically in the Elven Kingdom; Veer told me yesterday that we had to be cautious at all times now. Agrona, my father, is trying to capture him, and Veer wants to stay ahead of him. I don't know what he has been doing, but he has been planning something.
"Lance Virion, Lady Sylvie." Charley's voice from outside the tent spoke, and I sat up in bed, looking at the entrance. "Captain Melody is here to see you." I stood up, usually Veer is here to speak to them, so I don't really know what to do.
"Come in." I shouted.
Melody, the elf that Veer appointed to captain came into the tent and bowed to me. "Is Lance Virion here?" She asked and I shook my head no. "Do you know where he is?"
"I do not." I answered. "Does Charley?" Melody looked out of the tent, and I shouted again. "Charley, come here." The human male ran into the tent, and I asked him. "Where did Veer go? Did you see him leave?"
"I did, he went into the field with Bronx." Charley said, I had no clue who Bronx was.
"Why did he leave with someone from the demolition team?" Melody said, and I realized where he went, and I think Melody did as well. "Oh." She said, looking at Charley, then me. "Gather twenty mages, and meet me at the edge of camp, we are going to find where Lance Virion went." They don't where that is, his blood magic was the only reason he could find them.
"Melody, you are in charge." I said, walking towards the exit of the tent. "I'm going to find him and bring him back." I exited, found an opening, and transformed into my dragon form, flying up into the air.
'Arthur.' I sent a mental transmission to him.
'Sylv, what is it?'
'I think Veer left the camp to take on the Alacryan force alone.' My voice was laced with concern as I tried to find the person named Bronx, who had to be somewhere close to where Veer was.
'What?!' Arthur exclaimed. 'Are you going after him?'
'Yeah, I am right now, but I don't know where he is, or how long it has been.' I told him as I spotted a short man, probably Bronx, and made my way down to him. 'I think I found him, I'll let you know when I find out.'
'Thanks, Sylv, make sure he is okay.' Arthur spoke to me as I landed on the ground, transformed into my human form, and stepped toward the man.
"Where is he?" I asked the short man, and he looked at the hole he had created. I shook my head, and jumped inside, ending up in a tunnel with light artifacts lining the walls. I needed to find him, I didn't sense any mana being used, but the sight that came into view answered a question of mine.
I didn't know if Veer started the battle or not, but this shows that he did, lining the wall of the tunnel were Alacryan soldiers, each one with an ice sword in their chest, pinning them to the wall.
"H-help me." An Alacryan said as I walked by, knowing the best help I could give him was death as his core was broke, blood ran down his entire body, and he was motionless. I conjured a mana arrow, and sent it through his head, ending the misery Veer put him in.
There had to have been thirty to forty dead men and women pinned to the wall, and at the end of the tunnel, when I was about to walk out in the cavern, Veer appeared, walking towards me. "It's over." He said, and as I walked up to him, I looked into the cavern, the sight was, the sight was traumatic.
"Are you okay?" I asked first, still looking at the dead littered across the cavern floor, corpses blown to pieces, corpses impaled on ice spears, and corpses just laying there, it was a massacre, there had to have been over a thousand dead people in here, how the hell did he do this by himself without anyone here with him.
"Yes." Veer answer, he was covered in blood like usual, I could see that he was hit a couple of times with spells, he didn't look fine, the cloak he was wearing had burn marks, I could see on his arms that he was sliced a couple of times, and his face was dull, no emotion. "We can head back, there is nothing here except blood and dirt."
He walked past me, and I continued to stare into the cavern. "Why did you do this alone?" I spun around, grabbing his arm to stop him. "You shouldn't have done this, not after everything that has happened."
Veer looked me in my eyes and spoke. "I didn't want to lose anyone else; I didn't want you to fight, I knew what I was doing, I fought with five white core clones, all with blood and ice magic, I wasn't alone, I had myself."
"Still." I shook my head. "You should have gotten me, if you would have gotten killed or captured, do you know what would have happened to me. How sad I would have been? You can't do things like this."
Veer stared in silence, thinking of what he should say to me. "I-I know." Veer said, and then added. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you." He went quiet as he turned around, holding my hand still, and started to pull me through the tunnel that was filled with corpses.
"Don't do it again." I said, walking with him to the exit. 'Arthur, he's fine.'
'What happened?' Arthur immediately asked.
'He took out the force himself, he's banged up, but nothing his blood healing can't fix.' I told him as Veer and I flew up out of the hole, and onto the surface. 'The sight was baffling, he strung up a few onto the wall using ice swords.'
'That doesn't sound good. Is it his Beast Will? Is he losing control?' Arthur had a very worried tone. 'Maybe I should come and get him, or fight with him, it doesn't sound like he is in the right state of mind.'
'No, it's fine, I am handling it.' As we walked away from the sight, Veer didn't say anything to Bronx, the man just followed without question. 'We are heading back now, and I already talked to him about being safe and not doing things like this again.'
'Are you sure? The wall attack should be happening soon, I'm not one hundred percent sure when Veer said, but he knows. I just hope he didn't forget.' Arthur said to me, the wall attack is where their father died, they weren't letting that happen.
'I'll talk to him later about it, but I am sure he didn't forget.' Arthur went silent after that, and Melody and the other mages came into view as they were running towards us.
"Lance Virion!" Melody shouted, and we stopped walking. "Are you okay? What happened?"
"It's over." I spoke up for him, and the mages eyes widened.
"What?!" She exclaimed.
"I killed them all, have everyone get ready to leave tomorrow morning." Veer told her. "We need to stay on the move." He started walking, still holding my hand. "Geist, Daryl, help her out if you can."
"We will." The man named Daryl responded.
All the mages just watched as the two of us walked through them in silence, that was why Veer did what he did, he wanted to stay ahead of Agrona. He didn't want to be captured or put his men into harm's way. I don't know if it is true or not, it sounds more like an excuse for what he did.
The mages didn't follow us, they just stood there, chatting with each other. I think they were speaking about the fact that Veer just killed a thousand men by himself, and was calm and okay, not hurt too badly either.
"We only have a couple of these left." Veer told me. "Maybe even only one left, I don't see how we find many more camps that number under two thousand." He was speaking differently, somewhat cold, but was looking at me with his warm eyes. "We can't take on a force over five thousand again, we don't have the numbers, and we won't be getting them."
"That's good news, right?" I asked, we get to go back to the Floating Castle where it is safe.
"Not really, I mean, yeah, we killed, I killed a decent amount of Alacryan soldiers, but they still have a tremendous force. I barely even put a dent into the amount they have." Veer shrugged. "Anyways, we do have to go back to the Floating Castle, the attack on the wall should happen soon, and the attack on Zestier should be happening soon. The loss of the Elven Kingdom happens when our dad dies."
Arthur and I were just talking about that, how weird. "Didn't Elder Virion already handle the problem with all of that? He moved the Twin Horns away from the Wall, I'm pretty sure Arthur requested that."
"Yeah, I have a white core clone watching them, they are in Etistin, helping fortify it for any attack." Veer looked at me. "Which would be the last thing that happens in this war, if it does, we lost, which, I don't know, I'm slowly losing hope on victory, and just focusing on keeping my loved ones safe."
"You don't think we can win?" I asked, wondering if he was giving up.
"I don't know." He answered truthfully. "I'll do all I can to make sure we have a good chance at winning, you know that." Veer and I finally arrived back in camp, and we made our way through the people staring at us, probably wondering what happened, little did they know Veer had already killed the enemy.
"You need to wash up before you get in our tent." I told him, knowing if he went inside, blood would end up on the ground and on other things.
"Fine." Veer released my hand, and parted ways from me. I kept on walking, seeing Charley still in front, guarding our tent.
"Lady Sylvie." He bowed as I walked by, and into the tent. "What happened?" He asked, walking in behind me. I figured he would already suspect what happened, but I guess not, or he wanted clarification.
"Veer killed all of them, there will be no battle today, it's already over." I told him, and his eyes widened in shock.
"He is incredible, truly, Lance Virion is on a whole different level than all of us." Charley said as I sat down on our bed.
"He is." I added.
"Thank you, Lady Sylvie, for letting me know." Charley bowed once again and walked out of the tent.
I heard some voices, and Veer came walking in, the blood was off him, his hair was a mess, and I shook my head at him. "Come here and let me fix your hair." He always wets it, then drys it, and just leaves it like it is.
He didn't say anything, just walked over, and sat in between my legs, and I started to mess with his hair. Veer reached up, handed me the hair tie, and I took it, starting to put his hair up for him. "Thanks, Sylv."
"You know you don't have to thank me, let's have your hair cut though, when we get back." I ran my hands through his hair. "You definitely need it."
"I know I do." He agreed with me, and I kept on fixing his hair.
