Chapter 25: Attack on Xyrus Pt. II

My Beginning After the EndWords: 10940

I reached into Lucas's arm with blood magic and disrupted it. The hand around my throat disappeared, and I fell to my feet. I cracked my neck and set my sword ablaze with fire.

I looked at Lucas and Kai. "I couldn't ask for a better situation."

"Lucas go get the princess, I'll handle him." Kai spoke as I swung my sword at him. He dodged the attack and metal chords came flying at me. I reinforced my sword with mana and cut through each one as they got close to me.

You could tell Lucas was angry. "Bring him to Lord Draneeve, or I'll kill you as well." Lucas spit at Kai and started to leave.

I conjured an ice lance in the air, and sent it at Lucas, he melted it as it got close to him. Metal wires started to wrap around my leg, I reached into Kai's mana core and disrupted the flow of mana using blood. The wires loosened, and I stepped away from them towards Kai.

Lucas escaped and was heading towards Tessia. I heard the fighting behind me start to slow down, as the Disciplinary Committee started winning and taking down mages.

I walked over to Kai who was looking at me in horror, he was trying to use his magic, but couldn't. I dropped him to his knees, using blood magic. He looked up at me with wide eyes. "H-how are you doing this?"

I grabbed his chin and whispered into his ear. "The High Sovereign would be disappointed in you." I felt something I haven't in a while, the slithering of the Sea Serpent in my core, the urge to kill. I brought up my sword and got ready to swing as I looked Kai in the eyes. A hand grabbed my wrist, I turned around. "Claire?"

"Don't kill him." Claire walked up to Kai. "It looks like your plan failed."

"Our plan has just begun." Kai said as the rest of the Disciplinary Committee walked up to me, including Theodore. "Go look for yourself."

You could hear screaming outside of the broken window, we all walked up to it, and the sight was terrible, buildings on fire, people running, people fighting, mana beast everywhere, I didn't have time for this.

"How did you free yourself from Lucas and take down Kai? We were worried he was going to do something to you." Curtis asked me as I got closer to the broken window.

"All in due time." I told him. "We need to go."

"You are staying here." Claire paused and looked at the rest of the Disciplinary Committee. "Go find Professors and protect the students if you can." Everyone scattered except for Claire and Kai.

I was still holding Kai's mana core hostage. "I'm leaving, Claire. Lucas is going after Tessia."

"It's too dangerous for you." She rested her hand on my shoulder. "I saw you fighting, you were scared to kill." I just stared at her. "Right now, it's kill or be killed, and you can't understand that at your age."

"I can't?" I swatted her hand off of my shoulder. "I chose not to kill them, and you didn't let me kill Kai."

"Veer, you shouldn't have to kill, you are too young." Claire insisted I stayed safe.

"Your right, but I will have to in the coming battles." I felt for the blood in Kai's body. "And I'll start with him."

"No, Veer!" Claire said as I got ready to do something I knew I was going to have to do at some point. I yanked the blood out of Kai's body, causing him to explode all over us. We were drenched in his blood. Claire stared at me in confusion.

My eyes were fixed on the spot Kai used to be; my breathing increased heavily. "A war is coming, Claire, and I have to fight in it." I just killed someone for the first time, I didn't take my eyes off of the blood yet.

"What did you do!" Claire turned my head away from the scene, blood was rushing down my face. I wasn't in shock, but my adrenaline was off the charts. Kai was dead because of me.

Everyone was going to know eventually; the war was starting. "Claire, I'm a Blood Deviant."

"What?!" She didn't believe me.

"I'm going to help, don't try to stop me." I jumped out of the window, my heart racing, my breathing still heavy. I started to glide through the row of buildings as fast as I could. Eventually, I ended up in one of the courtyards where people were either fighting other people, or mana beast.

"Help me!" A girl shouted as a man dragged her into an alley. I wanted to find Tessia, but at this point I might as well wait. I shot wind bullets at the mana as I launched myself at him.

A barrier of fire formed around him, blocking my wind bullets, and he smiled. "Let me have my fun with the girl."

I disrupted his mana core, making him lose control of his barrier, then appeared before him. "You are like forty." I slid my sword into his shoulder, and he dropped the girl.

"What the --." He was cut off as I pulled the blood out of his throat and made him gargle on it.

"T-t-thank you." The girl told me, then started to run away.

I pulled my blade out of the man's shoulder and looked for my next target. It didn't matter at this point, killing felt good, like I was feeding something that was in my core. A mana beast appeared and swung a claw at me, I made the blood inside of it erupt, killing it instantly.

Another battle mage came walking into the courtyard and started to preach. "All humans, raise both your hands, and you won't be hurt. Our mana beast will stop their attack on you. We are only here for---." He was cut off by my sword in his chest, he fell to his knees and went motionless.

Anyone that was in the vicinity of me backed away after I did this. I looked like a monster, blood was all over me, I could sense that my eyes were bugging like I was going crazy. An earth spell built up in a mage's arm, as he silently raised it and aimed it at me. I turned to him and made his arm explode; he screamed in agony.

Five battle mages came rushing in to surround me, pushing past their fear of me. "Really? You saw what I did, and your brightest plan was to get closer to me?"

"Veer!" Claire appeared next to me as we faced the five mages. "Your right, I shouldn't stop you from protecting the school, and if what you tell me about your abilities is true, then you have every right to fight."

"Thanks." I said as the five mages pointed their wands or weapons at us.

"Let's take them down together." Claire pointed her sword at one of the mages.

I stepped forward and ice came out of my foot, spreading everywhere within a ten yard radius. The five mages standing on it looked down, and I brought up an ice spike into each of their mana cores, the same way Claire lost her magic in the novel.

"No need." I told Claire, as we took in the sight of the five dangling mages, they were alive just bleeding out. "Should I keep them alive?"

I looked at Claire with my crazy eyes. "Can you?" I nodded. "J-j-just leave them." It sounded like she had a hard time saying that.

Everywhere in sight there were still people running for safety from mages or mana beasts. "We need to help the students." I told her as I got ready to propel myself in another direction.

"Stay safe!" Claire shouted to me as I launched myself at a demonic mana beast standing over a male student.

I swung my sword at the claw coming down on the student, cutting its arm in half. "Ahhh!" The student screamed in fear. I spun and brought my sword up to the demonic mana beast's chest and slid it in. The beast grabbed my shoulder with the claw on its remaining hand as it was falling over, and it left a deep gash in me. I kicked the dead body away from the student. "Y-your shoulder."

My breathing was still rapid, my heart still pounding, adrenaline still pumping, I didn't even feel the pain. I looked down at claw mark gashed in me and healed it using blood magic. The wound disappeared and the blood was back in me, but the scar was still there. "Go hide somewhere, I think students are gathering near the faculty building."

I started to kill any beast that came my way, trying my best to protect the students. "Veer, Kathyln needs your help!" Claire shouted from across the yard. I turned and sought after Kathyln, she was fighting two mages at once, and was getting knocked back.

Like I was shot out of cannon, I appeared next to Kathyln, I was trying to limit my blood magic usage. "Princess, get out of here." I told her as I brought up a wall of ice to protect us. "Go fight with Claire, I'll take these two."

She seemed shocked to see me in this state. "You are drench in---."

I cut her off. "Blood, I know, now go." I used wind mana to push her away, as I brought down the ice barrier and shot myself at one of the mages. He brought up a wind barrier, but I got through it before it fully manifested. "Sorry, about this." I slid my sword into his gut, blood came rushing out, and I pulled my blade out.

The other mage shot a ball of water at me, and I brought a wind wall up, deflecting it into the air. "What are you?" He said scared, not responding I formed water scythes above me, and pointed my hand forward. The scythes of water cut him down to pieces, and my vision started to go blurry. I shook my head and pushed past it.

I never used this much mana before, I turned and slid my sword into a mana beast, killing it. I looked around the courtyard, it seemed like everything was going all right. I think it's time to go to the next courtyard.

A sudden voice rang out over Xyrus Acamdey. "Is this thing on." The voice was unfamiliar. "Students and faculty it's time to start the final ceremony, please, all of you come to the clock tower, my pets will no longer hurt you."

I made my way to Claire and Kathyln. "Are you okay, Veer?" Claire asked, I could still tell she was a little frightened by me.

"Yeah." I said, as I continued to breathe heavily.

"Thank you for helping me." Kathyln bowed her head. "We should go."

"Yeah." I spoke again, they both seemed worried about me.

"Maybe you should stay back, Veer, you did plenty already." Claire slowly moved her hand onto my shoulder. "You don't look normal right now, the look in your eyes worries me."

"No, I'm fine, let's go." I told them as all the students who were fighting beasts and mages started to walk to the clock tower. I just noticed the big barrier surrounding Xyrus Academy. We started to follow everyone to the clock tower, I tried to catch my breath, but I couldn't.

"We need to find the rest of the Disciplinary Committee." Claire spoke to Kathyln and I. "Whatever is going on at the clock tower isn't going to be good."

"It's not." I told her, I could already sense that there were people dead, and one of the dead was their own. "You should prepare yourselves, what I'm sensing isn't going to be an easy thing to look at."

"What are you sensing?" Claire seemed to be panicking silently, trying to keep up the leader appearance.

"Just wait and see." I didn't want to be the one to tell them.

As we approached the clock tower, there was a barrier around it, and I could see mages gathered inside of it. They were just staring at us, as they waited for all the students and faculty to arrive. I noticed the man in the middle wearing a mask, it was Draneeve, with a bag in his hand.
