Chapter 53: A Company

I was currently making my way back to my seat to listen to whatever Lance Bairon needs to report back, he was investigating an Alacryan company towards the west of the Beast Glades. I gave him permission to engage if he found them but seeing that he is undamaged and back already. I suspect that he didn't find anyone, they have to be underground somewhere.

"What is it, Lance Bairon?" I asked him and then sat down with Aldir to my right watching the Lance as well.

Lance Bairon bowed before speaking again, then went on. "I have a report on the company of Alacryans we spotted a little while ago, sir." Why did he seem so weary of the Leywins, was he still upset with Arthur, over that Lucas stuff?

"Go on." Aldir instructed as I thought.

"We couldn't find them, sir, but we did find tracks." The Lance found tracks, but didn't follow them? Did he think he needed orders to do so?

"Did you not follow them, Lance Bairon?" I asked him, slightly confused.

"We did, sir." The Lance seemed scared to say whatever he had to say. "They were cut off eventually, but we have a few guesses on where they are going." I see, where could they be going?

"Where?" I tilted my head at the Lance, trying to figure out the importance of this, and why he was delaying so much.

"The tracks point inwards towards a dungeon, The Sand Grotto, sir." The Lance paused for a second, and then went on. "That's where Arthur's younger brother is." My mind went blank for a second, Virion was there with the Twin Horns, even they couldn't take down a company of Alacryans.

"How many soldiers?" I stood up and stared at him.

"There were about one hundred Alacryans the last time a scout saw them, which means they double the size of the squad inside the dungeon, plus all the beast on their side, it doesn't look good."

"We need to send a letter right away." I spoke out loud. "Go tell a guard to fetch me scroll, we are out." I pointed for Lance Bairon to go to the door and ask. "Aldir, should we send a Lance there to recover them, by now they are about to face off against the mutant, we may be too late."

Lance Bairon went and did what I asked him to do, while Aldir responded to me. "Yes, sending Lance Bairon to recover them isn't an awful idea, but would you be doing that if Virion wasn't there."

"Yes, I just wouldn't be this worried, I care for the boy." I told him.

"Then I suggest doing just that, send Lance Bairon to assist with the fight, I wouldn't recover them." Aldir paused and gave me a meaningful look. "We already discussed that Virion Leywin will be allowed to fight against the Alacryans, so let's see what he can do, if Lance Bairon is there with him, he should be fine."

"Are you serious? Even with Lance Bairon there, they still outnumber us." I was shocked by this idea. "We wanted to ease him into battles with other humans, not put him in a situation where he is outnumbered." Lance Bairon might make it so we win, but Virion could still get injured or even die.

"I know what Virion can do, he will be fine, you should know too." Aldir said, and Lance Bairon came back into my view. "Lance Bairon, you are being sent to the Sand Grotto to assist them in the fight against the company." Aldir ordered him.

"Yes, sir." Lance Bairon bowed, then turned away from us and made his way out of the council room.

A guard came running in. "Here, Commander Virion." He reached up and handed it to me.

"Thank you." I said as I sat down and started to give my message to the base, hoping they hadn't left for the mutant yet, or whoever is there to run in and tell them it's a trap. The guard left the room, just as quickly as he entered.

"You can handle the message yourself?" Aldir asked me, and I nodded my head as I continued the message. "Then I'll be heading out, I have training with your granddaughter still."

"Alright." I told him, and then he got up and left, I was now the only one in the room.

I'm scared for Viriong, from Helen's reports, its sounds like he is destroying his enemies with ease and killing them without mercy.

He killed ten Alacryans by himself, without breaking a sweat, right after he killed a mutated beast. Only a Lance could do that, and every day, I question if he should become one. I already plan on making Arthur a Lance to replace Lance Alea.

Lance Alea's image played in my mind; she was such a sweet girl.

The rule was that there were six Lances, two for each nation, but maybe we should change that rule since we are at war. Virion might be nine at the moment, but he has done stuff that all the soldiers currently deployed haven't.

He has killed multiple Alacryans by himself, killed a mutant, and was trained by the most deadliest people in Dicathen. We had plans for the boy, he was to fight alongside Arthur's side to protect him. I still didn't know if I liked that or not, Virion at this moment might be stronger than Arthur.

Virion is nine though, he can't do what a Lance does, it would be way too dangerous.

The doors to the council room opened up, and Lance Aya walked in, a pleasant sight. "Commander Virion." She approached then bowed to me. "My mission was a success."

"That's good to hear." I sent her a smile. "You are to remain her for a bit, Lance Bairon is going to the Sand Grotto, you are now the Lance of the Floating Castle until he returns." Usually, we tried to always have at least one Lance here at all times in case of an attack. Lance Varay is normally here, but she left to deal with something, and that was when Lance Bairon returned, I believed.

"The Sand Grotto? Isn't that where Veer was?" She said questioningly, more towards herself than a question to me.

"It is." I told her.

"Oh, why is he being sent there?" Lance Aya titled her head at me. "Isn't there a raid going on there?"

"Lance Bairon discovered a company of Alacryans heading that way, that's why he is going." I could see her face change from confused to worried.

"Let me go with him, I can still catch up to him." She got closer to the desk. "I know I'm not supposed to ask for anything, sir, but Veer is my disciple, and my favorite student ever. He was like a younger brother to me."

I closed my eyes slightly, thinking about the harm of sending two Lances there would be. "I don't see any harm in you going too, Lance Aya, just make sure not to only protect Virion, and he was my disciple first you know."

She bowed again. "I know, Commander Virion, but he likes me more, you know that." Lance Aya started for the door, most likely trying to catch up to Lance Bairon before he left.

With the two of them going, I won't feel too bad. We don't have a Lance here at the moment, that should be okay, I don't think they will attack us. I don't see how they would, there is no way they could track this place.

I hope that they can get there in time, the attack team could already be up against the company down inside the dungeon. Virion is smart, he'll know what to do, Helen and Commander Jagger are there as well.

I just told the Leywins that their son was fine, and now there is a chance that he is not. I don't want to call them back in here, but I feel like I have to. "Clark!" I shouted, and the door opened. "Go fetch Mr. Leywin."

"On it." Clark the guard bowed and ran off.

I felt so bad about this, but I needed to inform him. Rey was the only person that needed to know from the family unless something bad happened, we can tell Alice afterwards.

Five minutes later, Rey walked into the room. "I'm sorry for this, Rey." I stood up and made my way over to him. "I have news again."

He had a concerned look on his face. "What is it? I don't like the way you said that."

"Before I say anything else, I sent Lance Bairon and Aya to help out, so relax a little before I inform you." I paused, and Rey took a couple deep breaths. "Okay, a company of Alacryans, numbered in the one hundred, have been sighted going to the Sand Grotto."

Rey stumbled backwards. "Are you serious? One hundred? That's way more than how many adventures are there." I nodded my head. "Oh my god, my boy, and you said they were fighting against a mutant too?" I nodded my head again. "Then it's all a trap, is it not? Get them out of there!"

"The Lances are going there to help with that, Rey, I also sent a scroll, so the people guarding the base can possibly go in and get them." I assured him. "Virion will be fine, he's a tough kid, you know that."

"Yeah, I do, but I didn't want him to be in a battle like this, he is a kid, just like you said." I could tell that he was very worried. "Helen won't let anything happen to him, I know it." He started to pace.

I placed a hand on his shoulder. "Everything will be okay, Rey, just relax, go back to Alice and just calm down. There isn't anything you can do for him now, just pray for his return, which should be soon."

He hesitated but responded to me. "You are right, I can't do anything because I am here, as soon as I can, I am joining the war." Rey turned around but continued talking. "Please let me know if anything else is discover, Elder Virion, I would like to know how my son is doing if possible."

"I will." I told him, and he started to walk out the door. I knew he was upset, and that he blamed it on himself for not being there for him, but I don't think his presence would change anything. Rey was strong, but now that strong.

Virion you better come back here alive, or your entire family is going to be pissed off at me. I don't want to be the one to tell Arthur his younger brother is dead; he may kill me. They would all hate me, even my granddaughter would be upset with me.

Tessia would be joining the war sooner or later; Prince Curtis already formed a team and was leading them through dungeons. She says since he is doing it, that she should be able to do it too. I knew that she would be okay, I just wanted to prevent it as long as possible.

War changes people, most of the times, for the worse.

That is what scares me with Virion, the power to control the blood of your enemies at your disposal. What would happen to someone if they lost control of who they are with that power? Virion might be able to handle it for a little, but in time, that shit hurts you mentally. Can a nine year old handle that?

Or will he become a totally different person???
