Chapter 65: Fire, Blood, and Curses

My Beginning After the EndWords: 11490

(One Week Later)

I brought my blood sword, which I made solid as a rock, and sliced the head off of a golem Wren made. I dodged a sword, a golem swung at me from behind, and as I did, I pushed myself off the ground using wind magic flipping over another golem. I landed on my feet and conjured a giant ball of blue fire, and launched it at a pack of golems, destroying them all.

Three golems came running at me, and I raised ice out of the round, blocking their path. I could see through the ice, and as they got ready to swing down on the ice, I shot myself over the wall. I formed three small balls of fire and shot one at each one of the golems.

The fire collided with them and caused a loud explosion as they shattered to the ground. I brought my sword up, blocking an ax to my face. I held my sword against the ax as the golem pushed down on me, then had my blood sword extend through the skull of the golem.

I couldn't rip the blood out of these, since they were Wren's creations. I was surrounded by maybe six of them now, and I built up fire mana in my body, then released it, sending blue fire in all directions, melting the golems.

I had my sword liquify and started moving the blood around me, and whenever a golem took a step toward me. I shot a blood particle at its head, killing it, eventually after a certain number of kills, all the golems crumbled to dust. I pulled the blood back to me and placed it in the tube I had.

Wren popped up at of nowhere and started to clap his hands. "Impressive, truly, your blood magic is too strong for these golems, but while watching you I came up with a brilliant idea."

"Oh, did you?" I looked at him, waiting for this brilliant idea. I was still unable to perform blood cloning, so I didn't know if adding another spell to learn was smart.

"Well, you are very talented with fire and blood magic, have you ever tried to combine the two?" He asked me intently, he pointed at the tube in my hands. "On battlefields, blood is everywhere, I know you can control it, and use it as weapons, but what if you were to set the blood on fire."

"I could see why that could be a good idea, but I would be setting our own soldiers on fire as well." I understand where he was going with this, it just wouldn't be useful, it did remind of something though.

"Yes, obviously, you would control who the fire burns, using your blood magic to control where it goes." Wren seemed pretty proud of this idea for some reason. "You could also use it to set blood on fire inside of peoples bodies."

"Ha." I laughed, and he shot me a questioning look.

"Why are you laughing from that idea?" He asked me.

"It reminds me of something." The spell was like Soul Fire the Vritra bloods can use.

"And what is that?" Wren had a curious look on his face. "Actually, never mind, if you are able to get fire inside of someone, instead of just ripping out the blood, you could burn them from the inside out, giving them no chance to live."

"Wouldn't ripping the blood out be easier?" It would be better if I had Soul Fire, it would make things a lot easier.

"You can't rip the blood out of me." He said simply. "But that doesn't mean you can't burn my blood, there would be little I could do."

"What? Are you telling me how to kill a god basically?" I was kind of shocked by this proposal of his now.

"It's not like I'm going to let you just burn my blood, it would take a lot more to kill us Asuras, but the Retainers and Scythes, it could work on them." Like a lightbulb turned on inside of his head, Wren started to pace the room like he did when he thought of something and needed to process how it worked. "This could actually lead to some sort of blood curse, we could combine fire, blood, water, and purified mana into one spell, then if you were to get it into someone, you would be able to activate it whenever you wanted."

My jaw went slack, that could be extremely useful. "There is no way to test it, we don't have anyone here besides us, and if you are right, it will kill them when I activate it."

"I know, I know." Wren waved me off as he continued pacing. "It was like a wave of ideas hit me; I can't process everything." He stopped, then turned to me. "Alright, first, the setting blood on fire spell, you're right, you couldn't use it on a battlefield, I doubt you would be able to control the flames well enough to protect your own fellow soldiers. However, it could be the first step on creating a curse, you master setting blood on fire, which should be relatively easy, then we add the other things into it, and boom, a curse."

"You seem very excited about creating a power that could kill people internally, without them even knowing it was me." I was a little excited as well though, to be able to do something like this would be amazing.

The thoughts of killing again flooded my mind, and my memories of my sword sliding into the Alacryans played in my mind. I want to go back to that moment, never mind, I don't want to go back, I want to create another moment like that.

"You don't seem against the spell either." Wren shot back at me. "And it's for the greater good, how about we start this, then you will train with blood cloning later on, since you have not mastered it yet."

"Wren, it's not easy." I told him as I stood in the middle of the cavern and had the blood in the tube cover the floor.

I held my hand out and conjured a blue ball of fire, it wasn't that big, but wasn't that small. "No, stop." Wren shouted, and the fire disappeared. "You need to set the blood on fire without using another spell."

"What?" I exclaimed.

"Instead of putting fire on the blood, you need to create the fire on the blood, so it's already there." Oh, I understood, I nodded my head and faced the blood.

I closed my eyes and reached into the blood on the ground, feeling for its molecular structure, then pushed fire mana into it, picturing flames dancing on the surface of the blood, burning everything it touches.

I felt the fire blaze as it manifested, I opened my eyes and noticed the flames on the blood weren't blue, but they weren't the yellowish, red flames I'm used to seeing as well. It was like a dark crimson, like the color of blood blended with the color of normal fire.

"Haha." Wren laughed. "You did it, see, you can do anything you want, all you have to do is concentrate hard enough."

"This is a little different from creating clones, Wren." This was much easier, since I got it on my first try, it showed just how much easier it was. "What's the next step then?"

"If I am right, I believe we can create a curse spell by adding your purified mana to hold the spell you desire, then add water to function as a buffer, making sure the spell can live in the body of your enemy."

"Okay, okay, so I would be doing it my palm, it wouldn't be something large, but a little spell I could slip into someone." Wren gave me a thumbs up, and I held out my palm.

"First, stop this fire from burning." Wren told me, and I canceled the spell. "First, bring a small portion of blood to your palm." I did as he said, I brought a little droplet of blood and had it float in my palm. "Then start the fire." I did the same thing I did with the blood on the ground, and the blood erupted in dark crimson flames. "Water mana on the outside, but don't distinguish the fire." I pushed water onto the fire blood but made sure to keep the flames burning. I could still see the fire burning behind the water barrier protecting it at the moment. "Finally, push your purified mana onto it, with the desired effects." I released my purified mana onto the ball and thought about it having the curse I wanted on it.

The ball was floating in my hand, still a float, I did something, now the true question is does it work. "I think I did it." I told Wren, and he backed away from me.

"We don't know that yet, but you were able to create something." Wren squinted his eyes at the ball. "Now, how can we test it?"

"I don't think we can." I said, as I was about to release the spell, a golem rose out of the ground.

"Here." Wren put a hand on the golem standing next to him. "This thing is like a Lesser, I placed blood and organs inside of it." The golem was a man, a man I didn't know, but it looked so real. "Place the curse into him."

"How? You think through the mouth is the best option?" I asked him, trying to think of the best way to get the curse into someone.

"In a battle getting the curse into someone's mouth would be pretty much impossible, there has to be some other way, otherwise you would have to injure them, then place the curse in them, but most of the people you will be fighting will have top tier healing abilities." Wren had a hand on his chin as he sought a solution. "Unless." He waved for me to come to the golem and him. "Just infuse the curse into your hand, then simply touch him."

"What?" He wants me to infuse the curse into myself then pass it on? "Is that even safe?"

"It's your curse, it won't hurt you." He simply said. "Trust in me."

I gave it a thought, then absorbed the curse into my palm, and walked up to the golem. "Here we go." I touched the golem's shoulder and pushed the curse into him. Wren was right!

"So?" He asked me.

"You were right, I felt the curse go into him, and I can feel it in the blood stream." The curse was spreading itself throughout the blood stream, expanding in size.

"Activate it." Wren told me, and I did as he said.

The golem didn't make a face or anything, but I could feel the fire burning away at its inside, slowly killing it. The pain someone would go through from this would be immense, it was literally my own kind of Soul Fire. After about two minutes, the golem fell, and shattered, the blood that was inside was gone, all that was left was ashes.

"I think we discovered a new ability." I was laughing internally as I thought about how to use this spell. All it would take it a simple touch, and I could kill someone.

"A deadly one too." Wren added in. "There is still one issue."

"What's that?" I didn't see any issues.

"Well, this golem wasn't being protected by mana, so, in a real fight, whoever you will be facing, will likely be reinforcing themselves in mana." I realized what he was saying. "This spell would be more of a surprise attack or doing in secret. It will depend on how you use it, but if you manage to get it into someone, it's game over for them."

"Makes sense." I understood, it would be more of a tactical spell, using it in the right moments.

"If only you could master blood clones this fast." Wren spoke in a sarcastic tone. "I have to say this though, Virion, keep this little trick of yours a secret." I didn't respond, I knew why, he wasn't supposed to help me learn new spells, and we just figured out a pretty deadly one.

"I got it." I turned away from him and smiled.

"Virion." Wren called my name.

"Yeah?" I said.

"Would you say you are connected to your blood more than the people's around you?" He asked me, and I turned back to him.

"I suppose." I answered him.

"Hmm, how strong is that connection?" Did he have another idea already?

"Strong." I stared at the Asura.

"Okay." Wren had that look on his face that told me he was thinking strongly about something. "Give me your hand." I did as he said, and he pulled out a dagger and cut my palm, causing blood to appear.

"Dude." I said as he took a sample of my blood and walked away.

"Heal yourself and work on creating a blood clone that looks like a real person." Wren vanished, and I was left alone in the cave.
