It was the next morning here in the half lab, half house Gideon worked in. Last night, I spent most of my time absorbing mana, besides that, nothing spectacular happened. I did talk with Kathyln some more, and Callias and I sparred once, which wasn't worth it, but getting him stronger was good, I guess.
I still haven't touched Uto's horns, I was getting closer and closer to saying screw it, and absorbing the one I planned on using, but I really did want to wait for Arthur. It was getting hard waiting to get into white core.
"Veer." A voice spoke out from behind my door. "Gideon wants to see you."
I got up from my little bed and made my way to the door. "Alright." I said as I opened the door to see Emily. "Let's go see the mad scientist."
"I wouldn't call him that, he'll get mad." Emily said seriously, and I nodded my head. I would never call him that to his face, that would be rude. "All we are doing today is running some test, we'll figure out how to fix it."
"I hope." No matter what, I was going to protect Dicathen and my family.
"Don't worry, if anyone can heal you, it's Master Gideon." Emily spoke with such confidence, the confidence I spoke with when I fought. We made our way to the stairs that led to the basement, which I suspected to be his laboratory. "Watch your step, some of the stuff he doesn't use is thrown on the ground."
"Okay." On the floor I could see scissors, pens, paper, blades, it was pretty dangerous. "I think you should clean this place up."
"I think you should mind your manners." Gideon came into view, and then turned into another room and shouted to us. "Bring him in here."
"After you." I motioned for Emily to lead the way, and she did. Inside of the room Gideon was in, there were a couple of things, a table, a light, a desk with a bunch of stuff on it, and needles laid out on a smaller desk next to the table. "Awesome, this looks like fun."
"It will be for me." Gideon grabbed a needle. "Get on the table and pull his arm out from under the cloak."
I made my way to the table. "I can pull my own arm out, Emily." I told her as I sat down and did as Gideon asked. "Here." I held out my arm, Gideon looked at it, and then at Emily.
"Hold his arm still." Gideon snapped, and Emily reached for my arm and held it in her arms. "I need a blood sample." Without hesitating, Gideon stuck the needle into my arm and drew blood from it. I watched as he placed the needle of blood on the large desk behind him, then picked out an unknown device.
"I thought you were an artificer, what makes you sure you can figure out something for me?" Gideon built things, didn't create cures from thin air. "I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I am curious." Emily released her grip on me, no longer needing to hold it still.
"I'm going to build something to determine what we need to do to help you." Gideon handed me some device, and I held it in the palm of my hand. It was like some sort of small device, that was shaped like a sphere. "I want you to push mana into this device."
I shrugged and did as he said, pushing the mana from within me to the ball, and I felt it start to consume it. After about two minutes, a light on the device turned green, and Gideon took it out of my hands. "What's that for?"
"Aren't you full of questions today." Gideon said sarcastically, and I turned to Emily.
"It's to study your mana." Emily whispered to me. "We are trying to trace every single ounce of where your mana goes and comes from, and how it does it. Hopefully, by looking into your core, we can find a way to stop whatever is happening to you."
"Sounds good to me." They seem like they know what they want to do, so I won't question them as long as I am not stuck here forever.
"Does it sound good to you, brat, does it." Gideon said as he was messing with the device, I couldn't really see what he was doing. "Let the adults take care of this, I don't care if you can take down a full company of Alacryans by yourself, in here, you are just a kid."
"A kid that can kill you." I responded.
"Ha, there's the bloodlust." Gideon spun and faced Emily, who I realized what holding up some radar device at me. "Did it pick up on anything? Can you find the precise location?"
"We know the location, it's at my core." I told him.
"No, that's where your Beast Will is, and if your Beast Will is affecting your brain, then your brain would be the source of the issues, but if it's not affecting your brain, then you're right, your core would be the problem." Gideon was kind of a dick. "We need to find the location like I said, so stop interrupting me."
I held my hands up as a fake plead. "Jeez, sorry."
"Don't mind him." Emily sent me a smile. "It doesn't look like it worked, it's saying the corrupted Beast Will is inside of both the core and the brain."
"Then it's worse than I suspected, it's not just a corruption, I would say it's more like a virus, the thing is spreading throughout his body." That's great to hear. "I don't think it will spread to anything else, it doesn't have too anymore. The corrupted Beast Will entered his body when he bonded with it, and now the Will has taken over a small portion of the brain, the portion that controls his thinking, giving it access to things like his bloodlust."
"Oh no, will you be able to fix it." Emily asked the question I was going to.
"I don't know, we'll find out, won't we." Gideon pulled a bag out from under the table. "If your Beast Will is corrupted, but is a virus, there is a cure." I knew there was a cure already, there had to be.
"Thank you, Gideon." I nodded my head toward him.
"How'd you know your core was corrupted?" Gideon shot me a look of interest.
"I guessed." I answered, not knowing how to explain it.
"You guess?" Gideon and Emily said at the same time.
"Yep, we knew that Alacryans could control mana beast with some sort of device, so I put one and two together, and took a guess." That was the best lie I could come up with.
"Clever, exactly like your brother." Gideon handed me two pairs of gloves. "Put these on." I did as he said and started to slip the gloves on. "Use ice magic in left hand and fire in the left."
"Don't you want to see water magic? That's the Serpent's specialty." I asked him
"Hmm, are you the scientist?" The old man glared at me, and I shook my head. "Then shut your mouth and do as I say."
"Jeez." I started to conjure ice and fire in both of my hands.
"Keep it up." Emily told me as Gideon and her were looking at a device. I kept on going, keeping the fire and ice emitting out of my hands. "That's enough." I released the spells and turned to them.
"Good, good." Gideon spun in the chair he was sitting in and gave me a weary look. "Let's see your blood magic in usage."
"Okay." I activated "Blood Oath" and felt for the blood in both of them. "What do you want me to do?"
"Hey, how's it going?" Callias walked in and said, giving us a yawn in the process. Gideon looked at him, then me, then went back to him.
"Do something to him." He ordered, Callias looked surprised, but I did as he said. I felt for the blood in his body and dropped him to his knees.
"Damn you." Callias muttered as he sat on the floor. "Let me go." I made it so he couldn't talk anymore, and Gideon nodded his head in approval.
"Amazing." Gideon started to write down information as I smiled at Callias, he was glaring at me. "You can let him go now."
I released my grip on his blood and he immediately stood up. "I hate your blood magic when it's used against me."
"Suck it up." Gideon told him. "Only one more thing I want to do." Emily and him started to mess with another device, and I could see where this was going.
"I'm sorry, Callias, I did as I was told." I shrugged innocently.
"You know you enjoyed it." Callias made his way to the desk, and watched what the two scientists were doing. "Have you guys figured anything out?"
"We will let you know when we do." Gideon shot at him, then stood up and placed a metal cap on my head. "Virion, I need you to think about your bloodlust, think about how you killed one hundred Alacryans by yourself."
"Fine." I started to think about all the people I killed that day, how nice it felt, how fun it was, how I wished I could do it all again, then I pictured Samantha's corpse and Uto standing across the room smiling, and how I wanted to kill him right there.
"That's enough." Gideon took the cap off my head. "Did we get the info we were searching for?"
"Yes." Emily answered, but the thoughts continued. I pictured my blade sliding into beast and people, my aura started to exit me, blood erupting out of people, covering me in blood.
"Veer." Callias grabbed my shoulder, snapping me out of my thoughts. "You good?"
"Yeah." I said as I rubbed the back of my head. "Sometimes I lose control of what I'm thinking about."
"That's what we were looking for." Gideon placed the cap on the desk, and then continued to talk. "We don't need you in here anymore, so you can leave or sit in here."
"I think I'll leave and let you work in here in peace." I stood up and looked at Callias. "How about a quick sparring session, and if Kathyln is up there, she could join your team, so it's a little more interesting."
"Haha, you think so little of me." Callias and I walked out of the room, Emily gave me a smile as I did. "I'm sure the Princess would like to join your team."
"I highly doubt that, she knows that it would be unfair." I shot a sly smile at him.
"Damn, I'm trying to help you, I'm sensing zero game from you." Callias shook his head as we got back upstairs.
"Zero game only applies if I'm trying." I wonder if they'll be able to figure out a cure, I honestly doubt it.
"Zero game." He repeated himself.
"Shut up." We exited the house and went into the backyard. It was big enough to spar, but you couldn't use dangerous spells, for example I couldn't use the fire dragon spell I created, or I would burn everything down.
"Hey." Kathyln was standing on the grass, ice was coming off of her. "Are you two looking to spar?"
"Yes, we are." Callias answered. "How do you feel about you and me teaming up against Veer?"
Kathyln looked at me. "That works for me."
"No blood magic." Callias quickly told me. "Only use water, ice, and wind."
"You really want to limit me." We walked to where Kathyln was standing. "But that's fine, I'll work on my sword technique."
"Good." Callias pulled his sword out and set it ablaze. The ice around Kathyln picked up, and I slowly backed away from the two.
I conjured an ice sword in both of my hands and faces them. "Let's not do anything to rash though."
