(One Week Later)
I've been here with Gideon now for a week, he still hasn't found a cure for the corrupted Beast Will. He has been doing countless tests and is trying everything he can to figure it out. Gideon had my respect for trying this hard.
I was currently training Callias, it was only a sparring match, but I wanted to help make him stronger. It doesn't do much for me, but it does for him, there's not much to do around here anyways.
"What are you thinking about?" Callias said as he swung his fist at my face, I moved my head to the side, watched his fist go by me, and his eyes widened as my left hand approached him.
"Nothing." I said, bringing my fist into his rib cage, knocking him to the ground. "Don't talk while you are fighting, you aren't good at it." I reached my hand down to help him up.
"Damn you, even without magic, you still are insanely strong." He took my hand, and I pulled him up. "Where's the Princess, we could spar a little?"
"I think in her room, I believe she's leaving today." It was nice sparring with Callias and Kathyln while I was here, it made me feel better.
"How sad." Callias said as he backed away from me. "You were right though, she's pretty good with ice magic."
"She is." I shrugged and conjured an ice sword. "Want to continue while we wait for her?"
Callias shook his head. "Give me like five minutes, I'm not as young as you, I need more breaks."
"Alright old man." I conjured a chair made from ice and sat down on it. "How do you survive in the dungeons?"
"Ahh, I had the Devil of Dicathen with me most of the time." Callias smiled at me, and we both started to laugh.
"You did, I honestly hate that name, don't get me wrong, it's cool I'm known by everyone, I only wish the nickname was better." I had no idea what I wanted to be known as, but still, the name was alright. I guess, soon I'll be known as Lance Leywin.
"I like it." Callias admitted. "You have to agree whatever nickname you'll ever have, is going to have something to do with blood."
"I get it, but Devil of Dicathen seems, I don't know, original." It reminded me of Arthur, but I don't know.
"There has literally never been anyone called that." Callias turned toward the house. "Do you think they'll figure out your Beast Will?"
"I hope." I said. "You've seen me in the field, you know what I am like when I lose it. I go into this frenzy where I seek to kill and enjoy it, even right now I have thoughts of it."
Callias nodded his head. "I know, and for you, a ten year old, to admit everything is very mature. Also, the fact you knew what the problem was, is insane as well."
"Well, I wish I didn't have to admit it." I shook my head in disappointment. "I only wanted to help people in the dungeons, and at the moment I'm not even trusted to do that."
"You're trusted, it's for your wellbeing." Callias told me. "Weren't you the one who chose not to go back into the dungeons?"
"Yeah, I'm just saying, in general, now, I feel like the council may not trust me." It didn't matter if they did or not, but I wanted their trust.
"They trust you, Veer, they know how strong you are." I stood up, spun the sword I had in my hand while he spoke. "Dicathen needs you, and you need it."
"Yeah, yeah, I get it, let's go old man, I'm bored here talking." Callias pulled his sword out and it blazed with fire.
"Old man." He pointed his blade at me. "You are on, only swords, no magic."
"Fine with me." I conjured another sword in my other hand. "I'm ready when you are."
Callias shot at me and swung his sword; I parried it with my left sword and brought my right sword up to his chest.
Callias back stepped, spun, and his sword headed for my face. I swatted it away with my right sword and brought my other to his head.
He ducked under it, and I kicked him in his chest, knocking him backwards. I swung my ice sword at his ribs, Callias dodged my first sword, and parried my other.
His sword headed for my throat, but I brought my one sword up, blocking the attack, and then vanished before him, appearing behind him. Callias couldn't keep up with my speed when I went full strength, my sword was about to hit him, but he rolled out of the way, and faced me.
I launched myself at him, swinging my swords one after another, keeping my attack on him. Callias blocked, dodged, and did everything he could to not get hit.
That was until my sword connected with his, and I brought my other sword up towards his handle, causing him to drop his sword. I spun and held my one sword at his throat and smiled.
"You win." Callias raised his hands up in defeat. "Arthur trained you right? With the sword?"
"Yeah, he helped me, Elder Virion and my father did as well." I told him as I dispersed my swords and kicked his sword over to him. "Wanna go again?"
Callias grabbed his sword, and then stood up. "I wish I had your mentors." Callias's sword blazed again. "If we are going again, why'd you get rid of your swords?"
"I'll go hand to hand again, you can keep your sword, so hand to sword I guess." I shrugged and backed away. "Let's go."
Callias swung his sword at me, I dodged it, brought my fist to his face and slammed it into his nose knocking him back to the ground.
"Son of a bitch." Callias said holding his nose with his hand.
"My bad, I thought you were going to dodge it." It was the first punch I threw, I thought he was capable of dodging.
He removed his hand, and it had a little amount of blood on it. "I thought I was too." Callias rubbed his hand on the ground, trying to get the blood off of it. "Yeah, let's call it a day."
"I agree." I reached down and helped him up. "Might as well see what's up with Gideon and Emily."
"You can do that; I'm going to go to bed and lay down." Callias motioned for me to go on. "I'll catch up with you later."
"Okay." I started to walk back into the house.
As I entered, I heard one more thing from Callias. "I need some ice." A smile crossed my face, I really didn't mean to hit him.
I made my way through the house and into the basement where the lab was. It appeared as if only Gideon was down here.
"What do you want?" Gideon asked me as I entered the room.
"I wanted to see how things were going." I approached his desk and stood over it as he worked. "What are you doing?"
"Something that you won't understand, I'll explain it simply for you though." He looked up from whatever he was working on. "I am trying to figure out what exactly has changed in your body, and then find a way to cure it."
"Wow, you went really simple." He explained that to me like I was four years old, jeez. "Isn't the corrupted Beast Will where my body changed?"
"Yes, but I'm searching for what's corrupted inside." Gideon said. "And all I am sensing is just your Beast Will, but there is something definitely up with it."
"What do you mean?" I asked, confused about what he meant.
"The Will has this dark aura to it, but it's only visible when you take a closer look at it." He paused for a second then went on. "I could see why no one noticed it, but there is something wrong with it."
"At least you confirmed it." I leaned over onto the desk and examined the device he had on it. It had numbers and words on it. "Do you actually think you'll find a cure?"
"I'll find one." Gideon went back to work. "If you wanted to, you could go back to the floating castle, I have everything I need from you." That would be nice, staying here kind of sucked.
"Really?"
"Yeah, take the Princess back with you as well, I finished everything she needed." I stood back up, gave him a look, and smiled.
"Oh, well, then I guess I'll be leaving today." This was a nice surprise. "Thank you for everything."
"I haven't done anything yet, brat." He shot me as I began to leave the room. "Send my assistant down here if you see her."
"Will do, her name is Emily by the way." I left the room and made my way up the stairs. It would appear that my trip to Etistin was already over, kind of sad, but I'm happy to be leaving.
I made my way to the bedrooms and knocked on Callias's door and walked it. "What do you want?" He had an ice ball on his nose.
"We are leaving, pack your shit." I told him and left the room.
"What?!" He exclaimed, getting up from his bed. "We are leaving?"
"Yes, Gideon just told me we can leave." The door closed behind me, and I made my way to Kathyln's door and knocked. "Kathyln."
I heard someone moving in the room, and then the door opened. "Veer, how are you?" She asked me, Kathyln was wearing a nice dress, one a Princess would wear.
"It appears that we both can go home, so Callias and I are going to escort you back to the Floating Castle." I ran a hand through my hair, wiping the sweat on my forehead off. "Whenever we want, we can leave."
"Okay, I'm ready." She stepped out of the room, and I backed up.
"We will leave as soon as Callias is ready, and I also want to say goodbye to Emily." The door behind me opened, and Callias walked out.
"I didn't really unpack, so I'm ready as well." Callias noticed the two of us near each other and smiled. "I'll leave you two alone for a second."
"No, it's fine." I started to walk towards Callias, and Kathyln followed behind me.
"Tch." Callias made a disappointing noise, and then we all made our way to the entrance. I had no clue where Emily was, she might have gone into the city.
"I mean we can leave whenever; we don't need to leave right now. Gideon did just tell me he didn't need us, so there is no reason to be in a rush." It felt like Kathyln and Callias wanted to leave as soon as possible. I was the one that told them we could leave, and this house was old, maybe they didn't like it here.
"Na, if you are saying we can leave, let's get out of here." Callias faced the basement doors. "I would go say bye to the scientist, but he scares me."
"Haha." I laughed. "He might yell at you for bothering him, it's for the best." I could already see Gideon yelling at him. "Alright then, let's head out."
"I know." Callias opened the door, and Kathyln and I walked out.
"Emily, we are leaving." Kathyln said as Emily approached us with a bag. "It was nice to see you."
"You guys are leaving?" Emily asked us, and we all nodded our heads. "I guess we do have everything we need from you, Veer."
"That's what Gideon told me." I smiled at her. "It was nice to see you again, Emily, oh, I almost forgot, Gideon wanted to see you."
"Likewise, it was nice to see you all for the past week, and thanks for letting me know, I will head right down to him." Emily smiled back. "I'll hopefully see you all again."
"Bye." We all said and went in our separate directions.
I'll hopefully see Gideon and her again, if they find a cure, they'll bring it to the council.
When I get back, I'll go back to training with Ellie. Lately, I've been helping her with hand to hand combat, I thought it would be good for her to know, even if she would never use it.
"Are you heading back into the dungeons, Princess?" Callias asked her.
"Yes." She answered as we turned onto the street. Kathyln walked between us, so we could protect her if anything happened.
"Mind if I join your team? Or is it full?" Callias didn't like the team he was on, so it made sense he wanted to find a new one.
"I'll see what I can do." Kathyln didn't say no, which I think made Callias happy.
