CHAPTER 32

"Hey.. what happened to Kuina?" You asked while walking through the dark and abandoned underground subway station.

Your friend held the flashlight while leading the way. "She was shot."

The news hurt more than you wanted it to, and Chishiya was able to tell. While you were upset by her passing, your childhood friend was thankful. It was the only thing that he would ever thank Niragi for.

"Thinking about her will only make it harder." Chishiya told you, opening the door that led to darkness. "You should focus on what you have rather than what you don't."

You dryly laughed. "Is this your way of comforting me?"

He shrugged while walking through the door.

Oddly enough, his words did slightly comfort you. It was odd how he was able to do so being the type of person that he is.

You crept up behind Chishiya. "I don't really like how dark it is."

"Just stay close behind me, I have a flashlight with me for a reason." The male in front of you replied to your comment.

"If I die in here, I swear." You muttered.

As the two of you walked down the hallway, barely lit yellow lights began to show up in pairs. They were attached to the gray cement walls. Pipes started to appear as you walked further into the underground station. Soon enough, you reached a large open area. It was nothing but more darkness with each step further into the nothingness.

Chishiya felt you put two hands onto his shoulders. He could sense your anxiousness and the fear you felt. The doctor loved how you clung onto him, grip strong as if you weren't ever planning on letting go.

"Here we are." Chishiya stopped in front of a dark building.

One of your hands let go of his shoulders, the other slid its way down to your friend's hand. It was an action that you weren't even aware of doing, but Chishiya for sure noticed.

Your hands were so cold compared to his, as he loved it.

He loved the feeling of having you too to himself. He loved that you didn't have anyone else to lean on or to trust, which meant that he was the only one who you would be able to rely on. It was just how he wanted you.

"There's a building; an abandoned building actually." You pointed in front of you.

Chishiya took a few more steps forward. He changed the position of the flashlight, illuminating the building.

The building was built like a soda can; in the shape of a cylinder. Upon further inspection, you noticed that screens were all lined up inside. Hundreds of screens at least. Not only that, but you also noticed that there was a desk in the center, with people who were leaning in their chairs. With the only light being barely on, the darkness made it hard for you to tell if the people were sleeping or not.

"Can you hand me the flashlight Chishiya?" You turned to the male who was now behind you.

He let go of his hand and pointed the flashlight in front of you.

The people were all dead. Every single one of them were corpses; not a single person was breathing. You could spot many holes from lasers.

"Seems like they were also part of these games." You muttered, surprised by the freshness of the bodies. "They were definitely killed not too long ago."

Chishiya looked at one of the corpses in front of you. "They were most likely killed 2-3 days ago."

"Same thing, smart ass." You tried to press on the keys on the keyboard, but nothing happened.

It didn't make sense on how the electricity would just go completely out, but you paid it no mind

As you continued circling around the center desk, you found the same things. Dead bodies and abandoned work that you weren't able to understand. Your friend didn't bring anything up either.

Eventually, you and Chishiya walked through the other exit that was located directly across the entrance. Neither of you made it far before you heard the sound of footsteps approaching. You reached into your bag and pulled out a gun, but Chishiya whispered to you to hold back.

You followed behind him as he walked back to the masses of corpses.

"So you actually found this place. I expected no less from you." Chishiya revealed himself.

Arisu and Usagi stood across from you two. Both of them had flashlights in their hands that pointed in your direction.

"It's been a while." You gave them an awkward smile as you tried to conceal your gun.

Thankfully, they didn't seem to mind.

You readjusted the straps of your bag and walked over to them. It honestly surprised all four of you had managed to meet again.

"What's going on?" Usagi asked you, seeing how you were the less threading person.

You shrugged. "I actually have no clue. I'm just following Chishiya because I don't have much of a choice."

The female's expression changed from confusion to pity. She felt bad that you had to be around someone that could potentially end your life without actively doing so himself.

Before Usagi was about to suggest you join her and Arisu, Chishiya spoke first.

"Thanks to you two, I have all the numbered playing cards right here." He pulled the cards and showed them to the duo. "Thank you."

Arisu didn't speak on the topic. "How did you find this place?"

Your friend pulled out a familiar folder piece of paper. "It took me a while, but I figured out that this is actually the map of a subway station."

Then it hit you; the paper was from the tag game. You haven't seen the paper since the game, and have completely forgotten about it up until now as well.

"So what happens when we collect all the cards?" Chishiya walked in your direction, approaching Arisu and Usagi as well. "I thought coming here would provide me with an answer."

The mountain climber grabbed a hold of your forearm and jerked you backwards. The sudden force almost made you fall onto the female.

Your lack of effort to stay with Chishiya seemed to strike him the wrong way, but he wasn't able to do anything. Not now at least. It would raise more suspicion.

He stopped in front of you and the other two. "I gotta tell you, I only know one thing."

"These people aren't the game masters are they?" Arisu asked.

"Right." Chishiya went on. "What's pretty clear is they were all killed after our victory. They're just human like us, and the kicker is.. there's someone above them."

'It's definitely Mira. There's no question about it, but there's no way that she'd be the only one.. right? There's more than one person above them, just how many?'

There was a silence for everyone to think before Usagi spoke. "So, then.. who could they be?"

"Who knows." Chishiya's eyes moved back to you. "Maybe god."

His eyes were able to get the message across to you, he didn't like how close you were with Usagi and Arisu. You didn't have another option, you gave the climber a reassuring smile and casually walked back to Chishiya's side.

Suddenly, all the dark monitors began to flicker on. They turned on in groups of around 20 or so. The only thing that displayed was a screen that was purely white.

"Oh shit."
