CHAPTER 4

SLIDE.

"And who do we have here?"

The man who stood in front of you wore dark tinted sunglasses with a bathrobe that left his slightly toned upper body exposed. For his shorts, he wore a similar designed pair of shorts. His black hair was a bit shorter than shoulder length and he had a small beard and a mustache.

You looked around you. All along the room walls, there were people. Most likely people who were also in high power, but served under him. Out of all the people that you saw, the only person that you were able to recognize and name was Chishiya. You could feel everyone's eyes on you, at this point, you were basically in the spotlight.

With no option but to reply, you gave him your name. "My name is Y/n, but who are you?"

"Ah, the world known tennis player. It's great to have you here, feel free to call me Hatter." He took a few steps to close the distance between the two of you. "I heard that you would like to join the beach, is that right?"

You only nodded in response, not quite sure of what to say.

"Well then, we believe that whoever is the mastermind of this game is waiting for us to collect all the cards of a deck to leave this world and return to out old one." Hatter walked to the curtain covered wall and dramatically swung it open, revealing drawings of each card in a normal deck minus the jokers with ⅔ of the cards crossed out. "We are almost finished with the numbered cards. After the number cards are all collected, the face cards should start to appear next since they haven't shown up in any of the games. Once all the cards have been collected, I'll be the first one to return, then depending on the number on your wristband, it'll be what number you'll be to return. Now then; there are 3 rules in the Beach. Rule number 1 is to always have a bathing suit. This makes it obvious if you were to be carrying a weapon. Rule number 2 is that you are free to live our life exactly as you wish. Hook up with people and drink, you could always die in the next game. The last and 3rd rule is death to all traitors. You are not to keep the cards that you receive from winning games frome me. If you are found out, you'll be killed."

It was hard to keep your calm and nonchalant expression unbothered in this situation. With all the tension building up in this room, it was even harder.

You raised your hand to ask him a question. "How do you move up in the line to leave this place?"

"Ah yes, I forgot to mention that part. You are able to increase your rank by contributing more cards."

Fishing out the only card you had, you held it out to him. "So I'm assuming you need this?"

He took the card and walked back to the wall of drawn out cards. Hatter took out a can of red spray paint and crossed the corresponding card out.

"Now that's one less card thanks to you." The number one handed you one of their wristbands.

'So I guess that I'm now a member of the beach, huh? Well, this is my life now.'

You took the plastic wristband out of his hand and looked at it. The top part was blue with the number that you were in black ink. Somehow, you were number 49 even though you only contributed one card. You could only guess that most people who join only join to live in this so-called paradise.

"You're only 49 because you gave us a card and I've always been a fan of yours."

'Well that's one way to humble someone. I guess that training many hours a day and getting injured here and there does have its benefits.'

He turned to your friend for a slight moment before turning his gaze back to you. "He'll be with you for the next game and he'll also show you around the place."

Not gunna lie, I kinda just wanna like restart this whole story and make it different
