Last First Kiss

"Everyone ready to go?!" I hear my aunt calling from downstairs.

"Yeah! We are coming!" I grab our last bag of food and walk downstairs with Louis.

"Finally! Let's go!" Annie yells once we make it downstairs on the front porch where they are all waiting by the car.

"Well sorry your food doesn't walk itself into the car!"

She turns around, rolling her eyes at me and mumbling something hardly coherent, but knowing her, it's probably something along the lines of 'idiot'.

"Shotgun!" Annie yells before Katie can stumble into the spot.

"I get carsick!" Katie argues.

"You can have a window seat."

"Mom!"

"Katie, you will be fine. Just sit on the side and look out the window," Auntie Liz amends.

She grunts in disgust, but climbs in the seat obediently.

"I guess that leaves us," I joke and look to Louis, amused.

"Here we go!"

We climb in with Louis in the middle between Katie and I. We are driving around the side of the island to Wai'napanapa in Hana. We always stay in the cabins and explore the dense rain forest that borders all the way up to the coast. It's about a two hour drive, so we will get there around lunch time and still have some time to go to the beach for a bit or something. We decided to only stay for one night since our days are so limited. We're planning on going again when the rest of the boys come over, so this is more of a quick little trip just because we can.

"So Louis, what's up with you two? Tell me the whole story," Auntie Liz says.

"Oh, where do I start? Love?" Louis turns to me for help.

"Oh, no. Not her version of the story. I want to hear from you."

"Oh. Okay... Well, here we go." He takes a deep breath and continues heavily. "Avery came to work for our stylist, we became friends and got to know each other a little bit. Then, one night, we were both awake in the middle of the night and got to talking. I kissed her, and the rest is history." He shrugs with a cheery smile and grabs my hand, squeezing it tight. I turn my head and kiss his shoulder that is left bare in his tank-top.

"No. None of the 'rest is history' stuff." My aunt really knows how to ruin a moment.

Louis groans loudly, knowing he isn't getting out of it. "I don't know... we decided we liked each other. Decided we wanted to be together, regardless of the risks or difficult aspects we would have to deal with. Eventually the boys found out so things actually got a little easier from that point. So, I mean, yeah. We fell in love," Louis finishes, chuckling.

"Awww!" Katie gushes. "Wait, so you guys have already told you guys you love each other?"

"Yep." I lean over to give Louis a quick kiss.

"You guys are adorable. How did you tell each other? Was it romantic?"

"Haha, it was in Amsterdam, and it was very romantic."

Katie just smiles and continues to gush how cute we are together, and soon enough, we're parked in front of our cabin.

Annie forcefully swings the door open the minute the engine switches off and steps out.

"Freedom!"

I roll my eyes. "Oh, stop being a drama queen. It was a few hours and you were sitting in the front."

"I was still trapped in a confined space with you people."

I smirk and start to walk over to her with arms open. "You know you love us!"

"No!" She tries to turn and run, but I have already linked my arms around her torso.

"Embrace the closeness!"

"Meh! Stop that! You smell!"

I laugh and eventually allow her to wriggle free.

"I hate you," she grumbles.

"I hate you, too," I coo with a smile. She scoffs, but ends up not being able to control the contorted smile that spreads across her lips. I shake my head and laugh as I walk back to the car to help unpack.

"You get her?" Auntie Liz asks as she hands me a bag of groceries from the trunk.

"Oh, yeah," I confirm, confidently.

"Nice!" She brings her arm up to high-five my free hand.

"Hey! That's not nice!" Annie yells when she finally joins us by the car.

"Oops."

She scowls at her mother before removing the next bag from the car.

We all continue to help until it's completely empty. Luckily, we are only here for a night, so there isn't a lot. Just enough food and linens for two days.

"Okay! Cars unpacked. Go choose your beds!" Auntie Liz yells and the three of us girls all sprint to the bedroom we will be sharing.

I push past the two others and scramble to climb up on one of the top bunks. There are two set up in the small room up against the side walls.

"Ha! I win!" I scream from the far top bunk. The other one is right in front of the door, and I don't want to fall asleep staring at a dark hallway or creaky door. No thank you.

Neither pay much attention to my victory call and continue to claw each other for the remaining bunk. After a little more pushing and shoving, Katie climbs up on the bed with an exhausted expression.

"Victory!"

"That's no fair! I don't want the bottom bunk!" Annie complains.

"Too bad!"

Annie just rolls her eyes and climbs into the bunk below Katie.

I look over and see Louis standing in the doorway, looking perplexed.

"What?" I ask.

"How there is no blood is beyond me."

I throw my head back in laughter. "It's all worth it for the top bunk. We have learned from experience, the bottom bunk gets way too hot. Have fun!"

He shrugs and walks over to collapse onto the bed below me.

"Aww. I don't like this. I can't see you from down here."

I climb over to end of the bed and duck my head down so that I am peeking my head into his bunk.

"Now you can."

He sees me and laughs, crawling over to the end where my head is in view, floating upside down.

"It's just like the tour bus," he smiles and leans in to kiss my lips, gently.

"I love you."

"I love you, too."

"Ugh! Shut up!" Annie cries. "You guys are so gross!"

I just roll my eyes and lean in to peck Louis once more before swinging my head back up to the top.

"Well, get out so we can have girl chat." Katie shoos him away.

"What? Why do I have to leave?"

"You are a boy."

I can't see his face from my bunk, but I can just picture the scowl that laces his features, only to be confirmed when his figure appears between the beds, standing up. He walks out the door and shuts it behind him. At that moment, Katie looks at me with the most mischievous smile that has ever crossed her face, and makes her look like she is already my age and knows all the secrets of the world, and is curious about any that have managed to evade her.

She's still only 18, but growing up, the age difference hardly meant anything to us. We were still thick as thieves. Which is why I know what that look means. She wants the 'deats'.

"So..." she starts off, slowly, dragging it out for dramatic effect, I'm sure, before she hurried excitedly as she says, "Have you guys done it yet?!"

I roll my eyes and laugh at her still-present innocence, quickly climbing down from the bunk bed.

"Let's go to 'Ula'ula Pond, shall we, guys?" I ask sweetly, ignoring her question, and turning to walk out of the room, regardless of her protests otherwise.

"Out already? I figured you girls would be cooped up for a while, sharing all your juicy secrets," Louis jokes as I walk into the main room of the cabin, which consists of a small kitchen, a folding plastic table and chairs, and two mattresses where my aunt is sleeping.

"Yeah, but I want to go swimming!" I smile. "Wanna go down to 'Ula'ula Pond with us?"

"What is 'Ula'ula Pond?"

"It's basically a cave filled with fresh water but it's right next to the beach. It's really cool and there's a rock you can jump off of into the water."

"Sounds great. You wanna go right now?"

"Yes!"

He laughs and agrees while I go to collect the girls.

"You guys ready?" I pop my head into the room.

"Yeah! But don't think you can avoid our questions forever," Katie says, climbing down.

"Yeah, yeah. Let's just go."

We all walk back into the main room and find only Louis standing there.

"Where's Auntie Liz?" I ask.

Louis shrugs and tilts his head towards the side door. "She's on the patio reading. She does't want to come. Says she thought it was a perfect time for a break from us."

"Sounds about right," I joke. I mean, I would get tired of our group pretty quick, if I were her, too. "Let's go!"

Luckily we all thought ahead and came in our bathing suits, already, so we just walk out of the cabin with our towels and phones and start walking down the main road towards the beach.

For a while, we all walk in a comfortable silence and taking in the scenery with my hand intertwined with Louis'. When we're finally approaching the entrance of the trail to the caves, Louis speaks up, interrupting the peaceful atmosphere. I'm almost mad at him. I was enjoying the quiet and relaxing calm being by the ocean brought.

"Why is it called 'Ula'ula Pond, anyways?"

"'Ula'ula means 'red' in Hawaiian. Oh, come over here. They have a sign that explains the story," Katie says and directs us ahead to a large wood sign with yellow inscription.

I read it out loud. "Once upon a time, a Hawaiian princess named Liliulani fled from her cruel husband, the chief Kameme. She hid on the ledge just inside the underwater entrance to this cave. A faithful serving maid sat across from her fanning the princess with a feather kahili, a symbol of royalty. Noticing the reflection of the kahili in the water, the chief Kameme discovered Liliulani's hiding place and killed her. At certain times of the year, tiny red shrimp appear in the pool, turning the water red. Some say it is a reminder of the blood of the slain princess."

"That's kinda weird."

"Maybe, but it's gorgeous inside the pond." I shrug. When I was younger and heard the story for the first time, it creeped me out a bit at first, too. But, once you see the cave, you forget all about it.

"Okay, well let's go see this murder pond!" Louis shouts excitedly and takes off down the steps towards the cave.

"He's kind of an idiot," Annie muses aloud as we slowly follow after him.

"Well... yeah." I shrug, laughing. It's okay if he is an idiot sometimes. He's my idiot.

Wow I sound cheesy. This whole love thing makes you really cliche, doesn't it?

After walking down the stairway carved loosely into the rock, we reach the entrance of the pond to see Louis standing there with his arms crossed across his chest in waiting.

"Beat ya."

I narrow my gaze at him. "It wasn't a race."

"I still won." He smiles pompously.

"Whatever," I laugh. "Let's go swimming!"

"Yeah!" Louis yells, throwing a fist in the air, excitedly.

I shake my head and walk down the path to the pool. It's short and ends where the rock of the cave starts. There are two ways to get in: climb down the slippery rock that makes up the steep wall of the cave, or jump.

"Let's jump in!"

I grab Louis hand after we all put our stuff down and pull him over to the ledge of the pool. We both look to each other before we look back down to the water.

We yell in time with each other, "1, 2, 3!"

Our hands still linked, we launch ourselves off of the rock and into the glistening water. As expected, it's freezing.

I shoot up out of the water. "Shit! I forgot how cold this water was!"

I look around me for Louis to find him absent. What the--

"Ahh!!!" I shriek as I feel hands grab my ankles from underwater and pull me under. In my state of panic, I open my eyes underwater and see Louis swimming up from below me. Even underwater he manages to smile wide. I roll my eyes as he swims up so that we are now eye level. He laughs, releasing some bubbles into the water that quickly rise to the surface before taking my face and pulling me towards him. All my annoyance melts away as I feel his lips mold against mine. I quickly link my legs around his waist as he begins to ascend to the surface, still not breaking contact with my lips.

Once we break the surface of the water, I pull away to catch my breath. My break is brief though, as Louis leans in to kiss me once again. This time, with more force. He hardly waits at all before slipping his tongue between my lips to fight with my own. I reach up to comb my fingers through his hair, gripping and pulling hard as he bites down on my bottom lip. My actions earn his hands tightening their grips on my thighs before sliding further up to grip my ass.

He pulls away and we are both left panting against each other as our forehead rest against the other's.

"I want to be your last first kiss."

I open my eyes to see Louis' still closed. I smile at his somewhat-request.

"You do?" I ask, closing my eyes, once again.

"I do."

I smile wider at his reference. "I do, too."

He follows my lead, smiling even bigger at my confirmation. He starts to pull away, but takes my hands in his and swims backwards towards the shallower end of the pool.

When we are both able to touch with our chests above water, he throws his head back and starts to sing--well, more shout--a song I immediately recognize.

"I wanna be last, yeah. Baby, let me be your, let me be your last first kiss."

"Louis, shut up!" I scold him through my laughter. His voice echoes through the cave, and although we are the only people in the pool at the moment, Annie and Katie may not be the only ones on shore for all we know, and I feel weird having them listen to Louis' off-tone shrieks while they are exploring their paradise.

Of course, he completely ignores me, and continues to belt out the lyrics.

"I wanna be first, yeah. Wanna be the first to take it all the way like this. And if you, only knew. I wanna be last, yeah. Baby, let me be your last, your last first kiss!"

I giggle and pull myself closer to him, pressing my lips against his once again to shut him up from singing the rest of the song. He doesn't seem to mind too much, and smiles against my lips before I pull away again.

"You're an idiot."

"The best kind of idiot," he emphasizes.

I tilt my head, curiously. "And what kind is that?"

"An idiot in love." He smiles.

I can't help but roll my eyes. God, falling in love was making us both cheesy romantics.

The worst part, though--I don't mind it in the slightest.
