London Underground/Aldwych
"How do you say don't shoot me I'm one of you in English?" said Harvey.
"How about, don't shoot me I'm one of you "said a man's voice behind me. "... My little pie."
My heart lifted to my chest, I felt like I no longer had weight and was floating. I turned round. The most sublime image met it.
"DAD!" I shouted running forward.
This was several Christmases put into huge boxset and one huge 30 day Christmas coming out the other together with a range of extras including interviews with the writers and director.
Dad smiled at me. I ran straight into his arms and buried my head in his chest.
"Wow you've grown," said Dad hugging me back. "It's OK she's OK," said Dad to the others, I could hear his voice crack at this. He pulled me away to look at me everything started to get slightly blury. "She is most defiantly OK."
"Those are lousy first words," I said.
Dad reached down and brushed a tear from my eye.
"Tears of joy or have you been chopping onions again?" Said Dad.
"We thought you were dead." I said wiping them away.
"You were being observed by homeland defence. I'm sorry pie I knew they would be watching. I couldn't give them any hint you were possessed. The number of times I wanted to visit or something. Someone went once for me but got caught by Homeland Defence I didn't want to risk anyone, but it surely burnt me up."
We began walking down a circular tube with a flat floor. The sides of the tube were covered in tattered tiles. Old posters were left on the walls.
"Thinking back on it I didn't think we were being watched. I remember Eve from school complaining that there were these black vans outside her house for ages. She said it was some instant telescope delivery services. The men in the vans told her they just sat there all day in case someone ordered a telescope. She used to take them hot coffee in the winter." I said. It felt just like old days like he hadn't been away for a second I turned to the others.
"Poor her. Now I feel terrible" said Dad.
We continued down the tube. Bits of equipment and boxes were put at the side of the tube. The tiles were green with leaf patterns. It gave the place a Victorian vibe.
Where am I?" I interrupted " Dad this is Sam, my best friend, Marta they are possessed and this is Harvey he's normal but OK."
"Good to meet you guys. Welcome to Pi central. From here we run the European end of the resistance operation. Lets sit down with a coffee or something and talk?".
While we walked people would come up to Dad and ask him stuff.
"The Woolwich pigeon net nests has been discovered," said a woman as she approached. "I thought we would switch to Dover."
"Sounds good Doris. Was anyone captured?" said Dad.
"No the police setting up the raid all wore fake moustaches for a disguise, they were easy to spot. Â The router just freed the pigeons and left." said the woman.
"Ok switch to Dover but we need to set up a new back up nest." said Dad.
We continued into an area down the corridor it had people with computers and phone lines. The posters were covered with maps.
"The internet shutdown has been very inconvenient," said Dad. He turned to me as we walked "How is your mother and sister?".
I looked at him.
"Mom made this," I said taking the test-tube out.
"What is it?" Said, dad.
"It's a cure," I said.
"Yeah look at me. I is not infected" said Marta. "Sorry that didn't come out as well, as smart I wanted"
"Another one you're kidding?" Said Dad looking at the test tube. "I thought she was going to spend the rest of her life looking for nothing. Well done, shows you, even with half a brain she was able to find a cure."
I did a double take.
"Wuh? What do you mean another one?" I said. I stopped next to another row of dispatching people.
"Rumours of a cure was found a year ago. I went to investigate. I found the lab but the department of Homeland security had taken over and everyone disappeared. The rumour is there is a huge stockpile of cure in a place called Vaultfifty one."
"That makes no sense. Why on earth would they sit on the cure? I mean it's worth money." said Harvey.
"Who knows. Perhaps people are easy to control when they are stupid" said Dad.
Sam nodded in agreement.
For no reason at all I stopped and grabbed Dad.
"oH, what's that for?" Said Dad again.
"Nothing I'm still on a living dad high,overjoyed," I said. I was still overjoyed to find him.
"What about your mother?" Said dad looking down when I let go.
"Well that's why I'm here. She discovered the cure ... she cured her self and Eve. Then they got arrested. "
Dad looked at me seriously.
"Don't, don't tell me they have you mother at Overworld?" I said.
I nodded. Dad grabbed me and hugged me tightly.
"Oh god." Said Dad.
"She's smart now she's going to be OK" I said, partly for dad's benefit partly for my own. Dad let go. I could tell Dad was worried and I was Miss super freaked. Someone could have presented me an authenticated birth certificate proving that I was Simon Cowell's and Matt Lauer's love child and Matt Lauer was my mom but I had Simon Cowell's butt, even knowledge of their DNA running around in my would not have been a freaky as what I was hearing now. We had now got down to the platform. There was a wall against the train track and occasionally you could here the train pass through the station on the other side of the wall.
"I have to get to the US now. I have to get to Overworld" Dad said.
"By know one knows where Overworld is" said Sam.
"Oh they just rebranded the Pentagon. I went there looking for clue to the location of Overworld and there it was before me. Even had a sign above it. 'Welcome to Overworld'. I was disappointed it was so easy" dad said.
Dad found someone looking at a computer screen "Karl, call a meeting of the Centroid committee, urgently." Karl sent some emails then walked off looking for people.
"Centroid is the heart of Pi. Its the central council globally," Dad said.
"I thought meat would be a better name for the centre of pie, that or apple or cherry," said Harvey.
We found our way into what looked like a make shift canteen. Dad got us some drinks and we sat down. He looked worried and I did what I used to do for him did. I got practical. I got out the test tube again.
"I thought we could get some scientists to copy it" I said waving.
"Most scientists are like your Mom or like your Mom was. Most are more clueless than having relationship advice from Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. They won't be able to figure out what it's made of as much as you could figure out the formula for Diet Coke on your own" said Dad. "If we had the formula for it's production then we could possibly make it, even then I'm not sure."
Harvey had a look at the test tube he stared at the pale liquid, he passed to Marta and then Sam.
"Why don't we find some scientists who could do the job. Use some of mom's cure on them, then and get them to synthesis the cure from analysing the rest?" I said.
"That's genius." Dad said. "But we must try and rescue your Mom and sister."
I could feel a sense of urgency in his voice.
"Dad. What's wrong?" I asked.
Dad paused. "I've been come rather attached to the truth, no matter how bitter it tastes... so I'm going to tell you straight. When possessed people go to Overworld they are given a choice. Work for them, mostly hunting down the rest of the possessed or have a lobotomy. I don't see your mother working for them. She could be very difficult when she wanted to be. They don't work quickly she's got a couple of weeks before they give up persuading her. Three tops."
My stomach tightend like python had me in it's grip.
Sam looked pale and excused hum self to go to the toilet.
"Thats why no one ever heard from them again." said Marta.
"So no breeding program? Why am I feeling relived and disappointed at the same time?" said Marta.
Someone came for Dad, the centroid committee was ready to meet.
"I'm going to resign my position as head. I'm going back to the US to do everything to get your mother and sister back or die trying."
"I've got a ship we can be back in three days." I said.
Dad hugged me.
"I still don't understand why homeland would want to make sure no one want's the cure?" I said.
Dad Shurgged. "It's not just homeland security. Government's around the world are making sure the findings don't get out"
"No one could keep a conspiracy like that going" I said in disbelife.
"They could if everyone was stupid." Said Dad. He had a point.
"But why?"
"Usual reason." Dad started "Power. Governments around the world were coming under pressure. Then the virus came along. It seemed the perfect scapegoat then when it took hold the perfect opportunity to take charge. That's enough my sweet pie. TIme for the meeting. I'll be back in an hour, I'll get your cure plan in motion too," he said.
Then Dorris rushed up she had a radio to her ear.
"Sentries have reported multiple van and truck movement outside the station." She said.
"Shut the lift[elevator] and close the gate. Phone Jobsworth and tell him some larger louts on a stag do are trying to break in"
Just then an alarm started ringing. It was an old fashioned metal bell alarm. The sort which had been made from melted down metal alarm clocks so it emboied the sprit of a million aggravated mornings. It rang like someone had poured cold water down you spine.
"The station has been breached. Inicate self destruct, destroy all files. Then evacuate." Came a voice over a tannoy.
