âI- Uh..â I had barely managed to respond at the sight of the reached bandaged hand.
âAre you okay?â Asked the person. Their short brown hair wave in the wind as their amber eyes stared at me. The interaction was getting extremely awkward. I had nearly died to a Wither, only to be saved by a mage? I was still processing all that had happened.
âYeah,â I said while getting up by myself.
âGood to hear,â They said as they put their hands back to their waist.
Bike and Cardinal rushed over to us, their faces being partly covered by the smoke left from the mage at first. Cardinalâs ears went upward at the sight of us, âYouâre okay!â He said enthusiastically.
âYeah,â I said again.
Bike sighed in relief, âYouâre okay, and I donât have to heal because you took no damage!â Everyone laughed at his statement a little.
âMillie?â Cardinal asked as he turned his face to the wizard.
âMillie?â The wizard said puzzled as they positioned their finger on their chin. âI donât recall every being called that, but you can call me Fern.â
âSorry, Fern,â Cardinal said with an embarrassed looked on his face.
âWell, I have to get going,â Fern said as he adjusted his hat.
âWhere?â I asked.
âThere some important things I need to attend to, apologies. From the path you were on, I figured you were headed to Wistgardia.â
Me and Bike nodded while Cardinal said, âYeah.â
âTake keep going forward, take the path to the left, and youâll find an Inn to spend the night at, hereâs some change,â Fern took out a bag and threw it to us, before using an air spell to propel himself into the air, soon becoming out of sight.
âStrange Bike,â Cardinal said.
âIndeed,â I said in agreement.
âStrange rich guy!â Cardinal said in excitement as he dissected the goods within the bag with his knees crouched.
âHow much is in it?â I asked.
â300 coins!â Cardinal said as he put it back in.
Bike chuckled as Cardinal got back on his feet.
We gathered our things that had been lost throughout the forest, having enough time to get on the path. The path started the way it did, minus the new smell of smoke in the air.
Every few steps was met with a snarky remark from Cardinal, a clueless comment from Bike, or a display of how over everything I was.
We walked long enough for the sun to start leaving, an indicator that out time was almost up.
âWhen do you think we will get there?â Bike asked as he slouched over.
The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.
âAt some point,â Cardinal said while he trekked forward.
We continued on the path, the moon becoming a reality as it got darker and darker. Eventually, we came to another stop in the road. The was a broken carriage in the midst of the stone, stone that had taken the place of the earthy forest path we came from. There were about three people standing outside of it with their horse.
âWho goes there?â Yelled out a peasant man near the carriage.
âFriendlies!â Cardinal yelled back as he covered the sides of his mouth to amplify the sound.
âUgh, another issue,â I said in my mind as we got closer. The stops in the path to Wistargadia were becoming almost comical to me.
We eventually came in full contact with the group, their faces looked blessed by the relief our sight brought them.
âThank the gods! We need your help!â Yelled the man.
âWith what?â Cardinal asked while getting a view of the carriage.
âMy wife and children are hungry, we lost one of our wheels, and the last one gave out. Would you mind helping us?â
I started to speak while thinking rationally, âWell, it-â Before I could finish, Bike had answered for us.
âOf course we can!â
My eyes rolled internally again.
âThank you so much!â The man said happily.
âWhere can we find it?â Cardinal asked.
The man pointed his finger north, âA bit over there.â
I gave in to the need to help the family, âWhat about the broken tire?â I asked.
âWe can make it last longer with the materials we have, we just need some sap.â The man said.
âI can get the sap!â Bike said while raising his hand.
Cardinal turned to me, âI guess that leaves me and you for the wheel.â
I nodded and followed Cardinal as we all took our leave from the spot on the road.
We weeded through branches and bushes, something made easier with Cardinalâs daggers. We got further north in the forest and came to a small clearing.
âWhatâs that?â Cardinal asked as he pointed to a piece of wood that lay near a smeared tree.
âProbably a part of the carriage,â I said.
I followed the bits of wood starting from the tree, making my way to a part of the forest where the wheel was.
âThat was quick,â Cardinal said while putting his dagger away.
âAlmost too quick,â I said while eyeing the area.
This felt like one of those annoying sub-quests that takes longer than it seems on paper. I took a good amount of those in the Fae Forest on my alt account, It had to be the same case here.
Within moments of my survey of the area, rustling was heard from the bushes, even signaled by the raising of Cardinalâs ears.
I looked to him and nodded as we approached the rustling as it made its way to the wheel.
The rustling stopped, showing the culprit of it to be a snake.
âNever mind, I said,â I turned to cardinal and he sighed in relief.
His relief didnât last forever, his face turned downward as he pointed to my leg. âUh, Verâ¦â He started.
âWhat?â I asked.
âItâs on you.â he said.
I looked down and saw it- the snake. It had clamped onto my leg and I didnât feel it. It was probably the result of my Undead-ness.
Feeling there was nothing to lose, especially with the family being so far from us, I used Summon Skeleton, âSummon Skeleton!â
A skeleton rose from the ground and grabbed at the snake, snapping it in half after bending it with its grip.
[-30]
âWas that necessary?â Cardinal asked.
âNo, but I wanted to do it,â I said.
As Cardinal went to get the wheel my vision started showing more than numbers again.
{New Skill: Raise Minor Dead}
Confused, I muttered the Skill name at the snake. After a few seconds, a blue and black aura enveloped the snake, causing both of its halves to move on their own.
âGnarly,â Cardinal said as he came to me with the wheel in hand. After a few seconds my mana had fully depleted and the snake had died again. I clearly had no mastery of the skill, or the mana to use it at its fullest potential.
We made our way back to the road, met with the sight of Bike talking to the family.
âWeâre back!â Cardinal yelled as he waved the wheel.
The man clapped in joy as we approached, followed by a wave from Bike.
âDid you guys have any trouble?â Bike asked.
âNone at all,â Cardinal said.
âNot for you,â I said. Cardinal giggled as he handed the wheel over to the man.
âI donât know how to repay you,â The man said.
At the moment, the wife had reached into the carriage and brought out an item. âTake this,â She said as she handed it over to Cardinal. It was a bundle of hay.
âHay?â I said.
The woman laughed a little, âNot just any hay, hay from Wistgardia, something very sought after given the war.â
My interested was piqued, so was Cardinalâs which was told by the grin on his face.
The man thanked us and put the wheel back on the carriage, preparing it and then taking off with his family. Cardinal put the hay in his main sack and we made our way to the Inn, the night being in full effect.
âRoom for how many?â The innkeeper asked.
âJust Three,â Cardinal said as he motioned to us.
âThatâll be 200 coin,â The innkeeper said as he held out his hand.
âYeahâ¦â Cardinal said as he emptied the entire bag of coin onto the table.
âScam,â Cardinal whispered as the woman working for the inn led us to our room.
The day ended with a successful sub-quest, and an interesting new figure.
