dave swiftly moves avery to the floor.
my legs burn with the force of speed as i take off running for them. bullets pierce the air when dave shoots back at vincenzo in rapid succession. someone is gonna get shot and sure as hell wont be my wife. not on my fucking watch.
Rage took over my bloodstreams more than i never knew it could. i aim my gun at vincenzo and don't hesitate to pull the fucking trigger. he screams of pain as the bullet hits him in his leg. any other time , i might have enjoyed finally shooting the bastard but he is the least if my worries right now.
" Avery!" i hover over her body protectively with mine where she lays curled up jn the grass. i immediately search her for any wounds or bruises. she looks up at me with wide , shaken eyes. i desperately hold on to her belly. i cupped her face , " amoré , are you hurt?"
" no." her breath rushes out if her. " he.... why did he shoot at me? i....i.. what? i dont even know him-"
she is in shock. i hug her to my chest and away from sight. if vincenzo tries shooting again , the bullet would go through me first. " Go , secure him and take away all his weapons. someone call alejandro and the rest." i snap at dave.
he takes off and i look down at avery , smooth her hair out her face. " we have to get you out of here , this isnt a place were a pregnant women should be." i tell her as she trembles in my arms. " its okay , come on. im right here."
i help her up but she stumbles a bit. i keep a tight grip on her and help her walk away. i cant believe he shot at her. why though? how does he even know her? how did he know we were here? im going to fucking rip is head open.
" you fucking bastard"
felix swings a punch into vincenzo face once dave secures his hands behind his back. his head snaps back , unfazed and unblinking. he is completely calm despite the outnumbered situation here.
" How the fuck did you manage to get into my study?" felix demands , grabbing vincenzo by the neck. he squeezed, his eyes burning with heat and fury. " what is the meaning of this?"
the house burns behind felix. tendrils of smoke tether into the air , mostly coming from his study that's nothing more than a hump of ashes. the fire is already dying out now that there is nothing left to burn.
" you sir are sleeping with the devil." his lip twitches when he looks at me. i could barely see him but he looks so observant. felix tightens the grip on his neck in a warning that vincenzo does bot bode.
" it's disrespectful to insult someone pregnant wife , matter of fact a capos pregnant wife." felix leans down into vincenzo face , his expression stotic.
" who are you to speak about her anyways? you dont know her and you wont get to know her."
" oh trust me , i know her more than i know myself." he chuckles, making avery tense up in my arms.
felix throws another punch that results in a soft snap. vincenzo readjusts his head as if felix didnt just break his jaw. as if the pain is non existent to him. jesus , he is sick in his head.
" Avery." i stiffen when he takes my wifes name , looking past my shoulder to where i know she stands behind me. " come here , princesa."
i throw an arm out and hold her right where she is , growling. " Go to hell , you fuck."
how does he know her? im lost out of my mind. she wouldn't have retaliated if she didn't know who he is. this is the exact reason why i wanted to keep her out of this.
" avery," he repeats calmly, ignoring me. im unprepared for the force avery moves me out of the way with, while being pregnant. she charges past me and stalks up to him.
" it really is you. all along , this is where you have been fucking hiding. you nearly fucking shot me and you expect for me to com to you with open arms." her voices booms throughout the front yard , catching everyone, especially me off gaurd. i cant see her face but i can here the rage and anguish in her voice.
" go to hell you piece of shit,"
vincenzo eyes narrow. " you in no way will speak to your father like that."
father? what the fuck?
" you have no right to claim the father role now , im disgusted to even be related to you." she spits. " where is niall? where is my fucking brother?"
" you need to come home to me, your brother is there." his head snaps to the side and it takes a second to register what happened. avery slappes him.
" dont," she seethes. " ever , call whatever place that is a home to me now. why didnt you say that when i was younger and you gave me away."
slowly, yet carefully, vincenzo turns his head to face avery.
never in a million years did i think avery was a major part in all of this. avery is related to the man who killed my mother , but she is nothing like him. no matter what this man has done to ny family, avery will never be apart of the consequences.
no one is prepared.
vincenzo kicks a leg out and nails dave in the gut, who doubles over, unprepared. felix charges to him immediately but vincenzo moves faster. he gets to his feet and slams his shoulder into felix body , taking him down. he lets out a scream as he rips his binds apart freeing his wrist. he swipes felx gun off him in his next breath.
" avery , get down." i yell at her and yank my gun out as she goes down on the ground. i fire bullet after bullet , that bastard some how manages to evade. he shoots back at me with a precision that startles me. i didn't expect him to get a good shot nor did i expect him to send a bullet perfectly through my shoulder.
the gun drops out of mh hand as it stiffened. " fuck!" pain explodes down my arm like a raging fire. my limbs burns , my hand spasms , and i know i no longer can shoot with it.
" damn it!" i clutch the wound that soaks my suit through with blood,dampening my palm. im losing blood , and fast. the asshole knew right were to nick me but i shouldnt be surprised. him and my father have been at this game far to long.
" mattia!" averys shrill scream grabs my attention. her wide eyes are pinned to my injury and she gets up. " no!" i wave the uninjured arm for her to stay there but its to late.
vincenzo grabs a hold of her and wraps his arm around her neck. he holds the gun skyward beside her head. avery thrashes in his hold vincenzo tightens, caging her in.
" let her go you piece of shit!" i start at them , but freeze when he places the gun to avery's head. she stills the same way the fear spreads through my gut like poison. " you wouldn't"
" Please , stop." she claws at his forearm. she stops , breathing hard, and changes tatics. " you wouldn't hurt me , you know how much i mean to niall and you dont like seeing him hurt."
" you dont know nothing," he seethes into her ears. she flinches. I need to go and get her. i look around for a goddamn way out of this. ale and kairi become present in my view on the opposite direction of them , but no one dares to shoot , not aslong as avery is being held captive.
" let. her.go." i repeat. i blink my eyes into focus when my vision goes blurry, dim. my head is swimming and i know im ast risk of passinv out. im losing way to much blood and fast. " leave her out if this , it's between me and you."
" she is apart of this , she is engaged to an enemy. she is with child for an enemy. i cant risk walking around knowing that she is out her with you out of all people. and as of your brother he is weak without his hurt , if he loses you thats great for me. your brother would use up that pain and be wabt i want him too."
" please, dont hurt me." avery cries, squeezing her eyes shut. her entire body trembles.
" i have been doing it all these years , i let you go. i have caused you nothing but pain now i need to put an end to it." he roars. ale and kai take a step closer and vincenzo clicks the safety back on the gun. i yell for them to stand back as avery keys out another cry.
" all i wanted for you was to come back home. i didn't want you to be apart if this life because i was to afraid of losing you. when i found out you were still out there but sleeping in the same bed as an enemy, i knew what had to be done. i still want to be your father. give you a home you never had, but you have have to risk losing this one right here."
" no! thats not how the fucking workd works. you dont get to send me away from what i called home , kill people , and try to come back and play father once you see that i finally found happiness. sorry , dad , but im not your one ticket out of hell this time!"
" avery , enough!" i warn her. she is just adding more gas to the fire.
" Please forgive me , princesa. i didnt want it to be this way , all of this." he begs.
" no , i would rather die by your hand than to forgive you!" she thrashes wildly. he presses the gun deeper into averys temple. " enough , you will come home to me and your brother. youll live a happy life with me , your father."
" fuck this" felix growls
i know his next move , i build whatever strength and knock down into his body just as felix fires the gun at him. vincenzo gun flies out of his hand and i see kai and alejandro grab avery. his gun falls right next to us , as we both fight for possession of it. another ghn shot goes off and hits vincenzo palms , earning his pained cry as he instinctively draws his hand back allowing me to grab the gun.
i jump to my feet , holding the gun in his direction but before i have a chance to nick him. a third bullet hits him in his chest. not damaging enough to kill him but enough to make his lungs burn with pain as he teeters of the edge of death. he howls jn anguish, curling into his body desperately for air.
that was a ruthless shot , extremely calculated and meant to torture. only a skilled markman couldve pulled that off.
" good shot" i look at dave, as i pant.
" that wasnt me ," he says slowly. i look at the boys but they are still with avery. i look at felix who shakes his hand. " i ahit his hand , that bullet didnt come from me."
he mirrors dave , looking around with sharp eyes trying to locate a shooter. my eyes snap back to avery but she looks pale. staring in a direction we weren't before.
but she gasp like her breath was knocked out if her and the world that falls past her lips freezes time.
