Tyrone was away on another business trip.
He was always busy, carrying the weight of the entire company on his shoulders.
Oddly enough, that gave Alicia some peace of mind. Just as Tyrone had said, it was the Lynch Corporation that couldnât do without himânot the other way around. So when the old man threatened to kick him out of the company, Alicia knew it was nothing but empty words.
Jade, for reasons unknown, had returned to Harboridge City and wouldnât be back anytime soon. With Jade gone, Nicole had lost her partner in mischief and didnât dare stir up trouble alone.
For once, Alicia was able to enjoy a few days of quiet, uneventful life.
âWhy is my period still late...â she muttered under her breath after breakfast, feeling a sharp twinge in her lower abdomen as she hurried to the bathroom.
If she wasnât pregnant, her period should have come by now.
When she finished, she noticed a faint streak of pink on the tissue.
Relief washed over her, but at the same time, a cold emptiness settled in her chest. So she really wasnât pregnant after all.
She slipped on a sanitary pad and got ready to head out. Sheâd promised Melanie sheâd go shopping with her today.
âAlicia...â Wilma, the housekeeper, looked uneasy as Alicia came downstairs, her eyes darting away. âAlicia... where are you going?â
âIâm heading out to meet Melanie for a little shopping,â Alicia answered honestly.
Wilma hesitated, then finally spoke up. âMr. Lynch is away on business in Mountaincrest City. Heâll be gone at least two weeks. You need to be careful while youâre here aloneâdonât go wandering off.â
Alicia nodded. âI know, Wilma. Iâll be careful.â
Wilma bit her lip, then seemed to make up her mind. âThe old man... heâs come to Seaview City himself. Didnât tell anyone, just showed up.â
Heâd waited until Tyrone was out of town to make his appearance.
He wanted to know, once and for all, whether Alicia was carrying a Lynch heir.
Aliciaâs heart sank. The old man, here in person?
âIt was that Jade,â Wilma said, fuming. âShe went straight to him, stirring up trouble, insisting you arenât pregnant.â
Aliciaâs fingers tightened around her purse. The old man had come to get answers, no matter what.
If he found out she wasnât pregnant, heâd force her to leave.
And if Maddox insisted on divorce, how long could she hold on? How long could Tyrone?
Alicia lowered her head, disappointment settling over her. She took a deep breath. âI understand.â
Wilma looked at her, worry etched on her face. âAlicia, tell me the truthâare you pregnant with Mr. Lynchâs child?â
Wilma truly hoped the answer was yes.
The old ways were deeply rooted in her heart; she believed as long as Alicia could bear Tyroneâs child, her place in this family would be secure.
Alicia shook her head.
She didnât want to lie to Wilma. She wasnât pregnant.
Wilma sighed, defeated.
If the baby didnât come, there was nothing left to do.
Alicia kept her head down and moved toward the door.
Serena was recovering fast, and it wouldnât be long before she was back in the public eye. Melanie would probably side with her mother, hoping Alicia would just leave.
Tyrone would have an excuse to call off the engagement with the White family.
âMiss Shelton, the old man would like to see you.â Alicia was a moment too lateâheâd already arrived in Seaview City. He sat in the car, his expression cold as he looked her up and down.
Alicia sucked in a breath, resigned, and met his eyes.
âWhatâs the matter? Afraid to get in the car?â His voice was frosty, dismissive.

Sheâs just been fooling you and Tyrone.â Nicole was perched beside the old man, clinging to his arm and shooting Alicia a triumphant glare.
Alicia stood frozen on the driveway, nerves jangling. Should she call Tyrone and let him know?
