Chapter 249

"Yeah, what about you?" Alicia lay sprawled across her bed, chin propped on her hand, her nose tingling with the sting of unshed tears.

She'd never thought of herself as sentimental, but it had only been a few days apart, and already she missed Tyrone more than she cared to admit.

How was she supposed to handle being apart for years if she went abroad for grad school?

"Just got back to the hotel. There was a hiccup with the project here, but it's sorted now." Tyrone's voice carried a smile. "Tomorrow I'll swing by Harboridge City, and next Tuesday, I'll come home to you."

Plans changed again. Once more, Tyrone wouldn't be able to return to Alicia right away.

Alicia felt a little disappointed, but she kept it hidden. "Home? Is something going on with your family?"

She couldn't help but worry about him.

"It's nothing. Marcus and his wife are back in Harboridge City, and the old man wants me to stop by." Tyrone explained.

"Do you want me to come with you?" Alicia shot upright, anxiety coloring her voice.

Melanie was always telling her she was too soft-hearted, but she couldn't stand the thought of Tyrone being bullied.

Family drama like this wasn't Tyrone's strong suit. If he couldn't say what needed to be said, maybe she could do it for him.

As long as Tyrone was there, nothing scared her.

"Afraid I'll get pushed around?" Tyrone laughed.

Looking at Alicia, it felt as if all his exhaustion melted away.

"Yeah..." Alicia mumbled, cheeks flushed. She really was afraid for him. Marcus hadn't set foot in the Lynch family home for years, and his wife... well, she acted more like a troublemaker than anything else. "I saw Easton working at a coffee shop today. He hasn't gone back to Harboridge City either."

"For all we know, he and Dad are just putting on a little act." Tyrone rubbed his brow.

He didn't know Easton, and honestly, he had no desire to. He had neither a father nor a brother, as far as he was concerned.

"I want to go with you," Alicia whispered.

"Alright. Once I wrap things up here, I'll come by Seaview City to pick you up," Tyrone soothed her.

He was always like that, always willing to grant her wishes.

Alicia suddenly felt greedy, her voice barely above a whisper. "Tyrone, can I come see you in Capitalis City tomorrow? I'll take the express train it's quick. Then we can head to Harboridge City together"

She didn't want to make Tyrone run around more than he already was.

Tyrone was silent for a long moment, then chuckled. "You miss me that much?"

She didn't answer, but her silence said it all.

She missed him—so much that she wanted to leave right now and see him.

"I'll buy the earliest ticket for tomorrow," Alicia said, a spark of excitement in her voice.

Tyrone didn't reply. He just told her to get some rest and ended the video call. Alicia lay on her bed, staring at the empty space beside her, unable to sleep. She reached over, grabbed Tyrone's pillow, and hugged it tightly to her chest.

She never imagined she could be this pathetic.

Just before she drifted off, her phone rang. It was Chester.

"Alicia, I had a friend fast-track the lab work. That soup you brought in? It had traces of colchicine-powerful stuff, suppresses the immune system and, with long-term use, can mess with fertility. In women it can cause irregular cycles and make it hard to get pregnant."

Alicia shot upright, a chill running down her spine.

She'd been right-someone wanted to make sure she'd never have another child.

"I understand. Thank you, Chester."

Alicia took a deep breath, then

added after a pause, "I need one more favor. Can you come by my place as a police officer, and help me stage a little scene? Wilma still has the meds on her. If you search the house now, you'll catch her red-handed. I just want some answers before I hand her over to the station." Content belongs to

"Of course." Chester agreed without hesitation.

If this had happened before, Alicia would've been afraid to go after anyone

connected to Tyrone. But Tyrone had sent Serena off to a psychiatric hospital

without batting an eye. That gave Alicia courage.

She figured, even if Tyrone found out she'd called the cops on Wilma, he wouldn't

blame her.
