âWhere are we going?â North asked. âLetâs get some yummy food,â Brian said. The two went over to the buffet that was served at the main hall. âDo you see anything you feel like eating?â he asked.
North purposely asked for something less common. âIs there any barbecued food here?â âOf course. Over there.â Brian pointed to the barbecue section.
North was taken aback but excited as well as he exclaimed, âWhoa! Can I barbecue my own skewers? Will there be squid? What about lamb? Oh, and letâs get some sausages too. Mommy loves eating barbecued sausages. Come on! Letâs get some barbecue.â He dragged Brian toward the barbecue section.
âSlow down,â Brian said, but he sped up as well. At that moment, a young woman who looked to be 18 or 19 years old popped up in front of them. She seemed to be avoiding someone as she kept turning to check behind her as she ran. Just as she was about to bump into Brian, he quickly stepped aside. She ended up stumbling and letting out an ear- piercing scream. âAhh!â
Brian frowned, it was at the very last second that he reached out to grab the girl before she fell. The girl ended up doing a 360-
degree twirl before stumbling toward him again..
Anyone else who didnât know what was happening wouldâve thought she was dancing. Brian had expected her to fall toward him again. He wanted to help her steady herself, but he was still holding onto North with one hand and couldnât let go in time, so he couldnât do anything but watch as the girl crashed into him.
He mightâve fallen over, too, if he hadnât been prepared for this. Brianâs expression was dark and stormy as he pushed her away with a frown of displeasure. The girl stared at him in a daze. Her large eyes blinked a few times before she replied, âThanks, handsome!â
âNo need to thank me,â he answered indifferently. He continued walking forward with North, but. the girl chased after him. âHey, wait a minute. My nameâs Charlotte Burnes. Thatâs B-U-R-N-E- S. Whatâs your name, handsome?â
Brian was a little irritated, so he stopped and asked, âAre you playing truth or dare?â Charlotte was startled for a moment, but she quickly acknowledged it. âYeah. They want me to find out your name and phone number.â
âConsidering the amount of time that youâve spent trying to talk to me, you have more than enough time to come up with something to tell them,â he retorted. Once again, he tried to walk off while holding North by the hand.
When he noticed that the girl was still coming. after them, his expression turned grim. âStop following me!â She pouted like an aggrieved child. âAre your really not going to tell me? Iâll have to take three shots of vodka when I get back.â
North grinned and said, âMy uncleâs name is Brian Mccarthy.â Charlotteâs eyes lit up. âOh, heâs your uncle?â North cocked his eyebrows. âYes, but I canât give you his number. Thatâs private information.â She chuckled. âThanks, you little handsome fellow.â
She then gave Brian a smug look that seemed to say, See? I found out anyway. âBut itâs true that Iâm playing a game, and you did save my life. Why donât I buy you dinner?â Brian eyed her coldly. âDonât bother.â
Still, the girl kept following them. âHow should I repay you, then? Maybe we can do it some other time?â He looked her straight in the eye and asked int all seriousness, âDo you want me to throw you out of here?â
